Then hop over to Amber's blog! She does bi-weekly career feature posts, and today she is featuring me!
I had a wonderful weekend. As much as I love going to my parents' cabin, I also love weekend at home. Especially now that I live in a neighborhood I love! Here are some highlights from my weekend, bullet point style!
- Meeting a dear friend's 2-week-old baby girl and getting lots of baby holding time.
- Running 8 miles with my running group - not my best 8 miler as I was a bit dehydrated, but it was still good to get a training run in.
- Hitting up a Borders going-out-of-business sale. Did I need to buy 4 books? No, not really. But it's tough to resist deeply discounted books - and I had a gift card I needed to use up!
- Having a Saturday evening to myself. It included biking to church, reading on a bench in a park, grocery shopping, and grilling a yummy, healthy meal. And going to bed at 9:30! On a Saturday! Woo hip, this girl is exciting!
- Sleeping for 10 hours on Saturday night. Feel a bit guilty about this, but I have been getting about 7 hours of sleep/night for weeks so I NEEDED those 10 hours of peaceful sleep. I did NOT need the bad dream that left me feeling unsettled. That's a topic for another post, though.
- On Sunday morning, I went to 4 stores in 90 minutes. 3 of which were furniture/home decor stores. Ahhh! I do not enjoy furniture shopping. Or shopping at all, really. Just ask my mom. And the search for furniture continues... I have a couch from ikea picked out, it's just taking FOREVER for them to replenish their inventory at my store and it's not orderable...
- Meeting up with a blogger friend (Crystal) who recently moved to St. Paul! We met at my place, walked across the Stone Arch Bridge, and got coffee/tea at one of my favorite cafes along the river. So fun to meet another blogger. :)
I think your book-buying at Borders is totally justified, as it is going out of business, and everyone knows that buying something on sale is really a money saving trick. Right?! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that you did need those 4 books.
ReplyDeleteYour Saturday evening and night (apart from the bad dream) sound delightful to me. 10 hours of sleep just seems luxurious.
Your weekend sounds fabulous (minus the dread). Oh to be able to walk over a stone bridge to a cute little cafe. Sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat books did you get?
My weekend was spent laying low and definitely catching up on sleep.
Sounded like a wonderful weekend - especially the 10 hours of sleep, well, except for the nightmare! Yup, shopping isn't your bag of tea!
ReplyDeleteOh, I so wish we lived near each other. Our weekend was veeery was similar ;)
ReplyDeleteThe highlight of my weekend was renting a bicycle downtown and riding around downtown for an hour then a walk around a nearby lake - all with a good friend that needed some natural endorphins and quality girl time.
Can't wait to see you soon!
So glad you had such a great weekend! Mine was pretty good as well. It was weird because I had Friday off, worked Saturday, had Sunday off. Maybe that's why I'm so tired today :)
ReplyDeleteI love relaxing evenings to myself (well usually with Eric) that's what last night was. We watched a movie, I napped for 2 hours and then we went for a walk. It was nice!
Your Saturday evening sounds fabulous! :)
ReplyDeleteShopping gets me, too.
I only can do it for so long too. And then I Get super ADD!
I love how little you drive your car now. That is awesome!!
We pent the weekend in northern Minnesota with good friends. Swam from the pontoon in the middle of the lake, played games, ate well and laughed until we hurt.
ReplyDeleteYou always needs books if they are discounted! Im so glad we got to finally meet too! I love your neighborhood :)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking I need to hit up a Borders before they're all gone. What did you get? I just can't say no to discounted/sale books!
ReplyDeleteYay for being featured on Amber's blog! :)
ReplyDeleteYour weekend sounds just lovely. Highlights from mine included a night of nerding out with friends watching sci-fi, spending an evening at a Brit-themed pub with friends jumping around to Celtic music, watching a favourite episode of Doctor Who, and catching up with an old girlfriend who I hadn't seen in months with sushi, Glee and Nutella fondue!
I agree with Sarah re: your book buying but I don't believe any excuse is ever needed to buy books! I have the same addiction. (I feel like I'm at Book Buyers Anonymous). Very much enjoyed your piece at Ambers' site, which brought me here.
ReplyDeleteBah - every time you talk about your new place it sounds so fantastic (i.e. just walking over the bridge to your favorite cafe). I really hope I someday experience "city life."
ReplyDeleteI request some photos of the cabin perhaps for a future post. Would love to see the cabin inside or out and the scenery.
Furniture shopping is hard. It seems like such a big decision and it's not friendly on the wallet. We did lots of little shopping/browsing yesterday but I couldn't bite the bullet on anything. The manfriend and I can't even agree on a bedding for the guest bedroom OR a shower curtain! I like relaxing yet fun and he likes everything boring snoring and plain. I think I'll just have to make the final decision. :)
OH P.S. - I also went to Borders last week and bought 3 books (Violets of March, Mama Pea's cookbook and a GRE testing book). And I kind of want to go back.
I agree with Sarah and Pea re books. No amount of books is ever too many books and when they are on sale, it is practically a sin NOT to buy them. So...buy on!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of shopping, I also dislike shopping, except BOOK shopping of course! I am more of a "I know what I need and I know where I want to get in and now I got it so lets get out of here" kind of shopper.
Your Saturday evening sounds GREAT. I really love a good night at home with a nice book and a good night's sleep. You can't put a price on that!
The borders near me went out of business last year- Eric and I spent over $100 there haha, I considered going to another one this year and then I remembered I cannot be trusted there haha.
ReplyDeleteLoved reading about your job :)
Sounds nice! I saw Montgomery Gentry in concert with a friend and that was fun! Got to hang out with out of town relatives and introduce them to Isla (who got tons of hand me down clothes that are adorable!). And just relaxing with my fam. good times. ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG, furniture shopping is the worst! I hate it with a passion. So I'm sorry you had to deal with that. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy weekend was a little up-and-down. A lot of shopping, an annoying family BBQ, and then my nephew came over for a sleepover on Sunday night. So it's been busy, busy, busy for me. :) I'm looking forward to laying low tomorrow. Hehe.
It doesn't count as buying books if you're using a gift card. (Just saying).
ReplyDeleteHighlights of my weekend: getting settled in the apartment. As you know not everything's put away, but pretty much everything's unpacked which is pretty good considering we've only lived here a week!
What a fun weekend! You deserve to buy yourself all the books the want
ReplyDeleteThe highlight of my weekend was hanging out at the Folk Festival.
