Here are some of the highs/lows of my trip....
Highs...
- Spending quality time with my parents. I got to their place around 7:15 on Thursday so had a good 2-2.5 hours to just sit and talk before we went to bed. My dad is recovering well and his incisions look really good (he has 6! yikes!).
- I slept so well at my parents. I think it's because I sleep in the basement there so it's extra dark. I forgot to pack my sleep mask (I am addicted to my sleep mask) but it didn't seem to bother me too much, so that is good!
- Spending time with my grandma. It's not common for me to get my grandma all to myself since I usually see her at family events, so I really treasure the one-on-one talks. She let me pick out some books and something from her china cabinet. I picked out a cup and saucer that is so beautiful! See for yourself...
- My boss called on Friday with some not news about potential changes happening at work. Nothing is official yet, but if/when these changes happen, it will significantly impact my quality of life at work. I spent most of the day in tears.
- The roads were so bad! It was really windy on Friday so the snow was blowing across the road, which resulted in icy roads. The drive to and from the wedding should have taken 50 minutes each way, and instead took 90. I did not stay very long at the wedding because I knew I had a long drive ahead of me and it had already been a long day for me.
- I had to turn down my grandma's offer of a game of scrabble as I had to get back to studying. I hated saying no, but I had a certain number of hours I needed to put in on Friday. She understood, and we will just have to play this summer when this darn test is behind me!
I have a really busy week ahead of me between studying, work stuff, and 2 baby showers this weekend (which I am really looking forward to!), so I probably won't be blogging much, if at all. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
I'm glad you got to spend some quality time with your parents and grandma. :) You are going to really deserve some relaxation time this summer after all this studying. I can't wait to celebrate with you! :)
ReplyDeleteOh no!! What happened at work?? I will keep this in my thoughts and prayers and hope that everything works out for you.
ReplyDeleteThat cup and saucer is absolutely gorgeous! Did she let you keep it when you say "pick one out" or just use it? It's so so pretty! I'm in love! (wow, nerd alert)
I sleep in the basement at my parents too and I always sleep well! It's so cool and dark down there, just perfect for sleeping! Plus, from the time I was about 10 till I moved out, my room was in the basement so I must have been used to it!
Hope your week starts out well, thinking of you and your fam!
Hooray for good sleep! I feel like you never get it - so glad this was a change! The pattern on that cup and saucer are awesome - and I hope the changes at work either don't happen or aren't as bad as you think!
ReplyDeleteBoo to the work stuff ruining your family weekend :( Thinking of you today! XO
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the work stuff but looks like you had some good family moments this weekend, hopefully that didn't ruin it all!
ReplyDeleteKeeping hanging in there! I admire you for everything that you do with studying for the CFA and work, etc.!
ReplyDeleteWell it sounds like a good and bad weekend - that tea cup is gorgeous though! So thoughtful of your grandma to let you take one! Hope the stuff at work doesn't get too bad for you! I hate change at work and I especially hate when you get too much work!
ReplyDeleteTake care. Hope your work situation works out as well as can be expected.
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice that you got to spend one-on-one time with your grandma. Also? I'm in total awe that you have such discipline when it comes to studying! You're totally going to rock that test!
ReplyDeleteWow that was a whirlwind weekend! So good to see the parents and grandparents, and that sounds like a scary potential work change. Hang in there tiger.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that the changes you didn't want to happen are happening. I hope things turn around for you soon with work :(
ReplyDeleteI think it's good that you took the time to go home and spend time with your family. It does the heart and head good :)
I'm praying for you! Hang in there and I hope it goes better than you expect with this work situation! I'm so glad you could spend some quality time with Grandma in her home for one last time! Those memories are priceless! It's always good to have our children "home"!
ReplyDeleteSending extra love your way. I'm glad you got to spend time with your parents and grandmother!
ReplyDeleteAh, so sorry to hear about the work issues. Sounds scary! I hope everything will work out. <3
ReplyDeleteBut! I am very glad you had a great weekend with your family. Always nice to have one-on-one time with a grandparent. Makes me want to invite my grandma for a Panera Bread date! :)
I never used a sleep mask before meeting Sweets. Since he used to work nights, he used them out of necessity, to be able to sleep during the day. Now, I sometimes can't sleep without it! Though, Gavin's room is an awesome room to sleep - it has a room darkening shade over the window!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to spend time with loved ones to satiate your family needs for the next few months!
I know in the Midwest people have basements and they are very nice and often better than the main area, but where I am from we don't usually have them so when you say you sleep in the basement, I picture that place in Goonies for some reason. You know, where they keep all the ice cream? Sorry. Weird thought.
ReplyDeleteSorry that your work situation may change. What happened? I hope that it either doesn't change or if it does it's not as bad as you are anticipating.
Sorry about the lows. It would be hard to turn down a game of scrabble with anyone, and especially a grandma :-) Luckily grandma's are awesome and understand things like studying!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you got a lot of visiting in with your parents and it's great that you slept well. I always sleep well in basements because they are usually cooler too, and I like sleeping in a cold room.
That cup and saucer is gorgeous! I love items like that when they are passed down. I will cross my fingers that your work changes fall through and everything stays as is!
ReplyDeletebooo that stinks. i want it to be june so your exam is over!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you had such a great time at home. I always cherish the time that I can spend at my parents' house - it always make me feel like a little girl again :)
ReplyDeleteOh, Lisa, I'm really bummed to hear about your work stuff. I hope it all works out. Let me know if you want to chat. I'm glad you had a nice relaxing weekend with your family. Those can really fill you up energy wise.
ReplyDeleteI really hope this news with work turns for the better. You are in my daily prayers.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to spend some time @ home. I love being home with Mom & Dad. It certainly is comforting.
My stomach churns at the thought of driving on bad roads. There is no way I could ever live in a winter climate again. It's such a luxury to never deal with bad roads!
I'm with you; sometimes leaving the safety of my parents house is HARD, especially when what we are going back to isn't exactly what we would like to be doing all of the time. Glad you had a good time all things considered though! Here's hoping old man winter goes away soon so that the roads will be clearer for everyone!
ReplyDeleteGood grief, Lisa -- you sure packed a lot into that weekend! I love the teacup and I'm glad you got some one-on-one with your gran and were able to see everyone.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the work stuff. We had major changes that are still shaking out some eight months later, making most of us miserable. I know you've really been happy and I hope that the changes will shake out quickly and not be so bad as they seem. Sending hugs.
I'm so glad to hear that your dad is recovering well from surgery and that you got to spend quality time with your family. The cup and saucer that your grandmother gave you are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to read about the work news. I hope everything works out.
