Am I the Only One?

Allison did this post yesterday and I thought it was kind of a fun post, so I decided to play along!

Am I the only one...

- who has no desire to ever step foot in the city of Las Vegas unless I am required to go for work?

- who thinks that sweatpants with words across the behind are tacky?

- who doesn't like to talk to others while I am going to the bathroom (seriously, why do people do this!  It makes me so uncomfortable!)?

-  who feels like society has become numb to infidelity and dare I say, finds it "cute" (as evidenced by the popularity of the book/movie "Something Borrowed")?

- who adored the Happy Potter Books but has no desire to ever see the movies?

- who thinks you actually get more sick the years you get a flu shot?

- who cringes on the inside when people say the phrase "I have to pee" (what happened to saying I need to use the restroom!)?

- who is tempted to de-activate their facebook profile until after the election?

Ok, your turn:  Am I the only one...

  1. I hear you loud and clear on the toilet talking. It's endemic at work. I don't mind chatting at the basins etc but when I enter the cubicle, that's my time. Pipe down. I get stage fright if people chat to me then.

  2. Some of these I totally agree with (Las Vegas, facebook, sweatpants, infidelity), and some of these made me laugh because I do them (I say "I have to pee" all the time - although not at work so I guess that counts for something).

I also am an advocate of the flu shot - just not the mist as that is the live vaccine.

    Fun post!

  3. Couldn't agree more on Las Vegas. I flew into there for a trip to Utah but had no desire to stop anywhere which my husband thought was bizarre. I agree on the flu shot thing too (as well as several others you list here)!

  4. No desire for LV at all. Yes those sweat pants are tacky. Don't talk to me in the bathroom! I never get flu shots but I have seen people get them and get sick a lot.

Am I the only one that thinks people are obsessed with their phones! i was at lunch yesterday with 8 co-workers and half the time most of them had their phone out on the table! WHATS wrong with talking, you don't need your phone out for that!

  5. Oh I LOVE this post!!! So much!!!! Although I will say, I had a blast when I went to Vegas with 3 girlfriends in 2007 and hope to go back with Jason some day. Do you know he actually lived there for some time????? I told him I have no clue how a person LIVES there---because 4 days was enough for me! Anywho, the sweatpants--ugh. Totally hate them! My high school students often wear them and I think they just scream "LOOK AT MY BUTT!" and can't understand why a parent of a teenage girl (or younger!) would want to draw that attention! The infidelity thing-yeah, I'm really struggling with that lately. We've had some friends tell us they are getting divorced and it is because of cheating. I just don't understand......
And the flu shot--I'm freaking out because Welles' doctors said we should get one (Jason and I) but I'm afraid I will get sick from it. I can't be sick and take care of him! So---I have avoided it so far, but will probably have to cave in before too long.

I might have to steal this idea sometime soon! :) LOVED IT!

  6. I am so with you on these two:

    - who thinks that sweatpants with words across the behind are tacky?

    - who doesn't like to talk to others while I am going to the bathroom (seriously, why do people do this! It makes me so uncomfortable!)?

BUT, I totally tell people I have to pee all the time! Haha, sorry!!

  7. I have gotten the flu shot twice ... once when it was first recommended for the general public (and I got sicker that year than I ever had before and then swore never to get another one again) and once when I was pregnant with Gavin (because he would be too small to get it when he was born, the whole prematurity thing, blah blah blah). Long story short, I echo your feelings and tend to skip it outside of extenuating circumstances.

Also, you want to know what happened to "I have to use the restroom"??? Kids, that's what. Gavin knows "pee pee," so we say that phrase a lot around our house (and it might leak into adult conversations, too. hahaha.

  8. Blech I hate Las Vegas. I went a few years ago when D was working at the Nevada Test site, and we managed to mainly avoid the casinos. We hiked, saw the Hoover Dam, went to Lake Mead, and spent lots of time outdoors. The one night we went to a casino/club it was super stressful and we got in a huge fight. I will never go back to Vegas again if it's up to me! And I also hate the sweatpants with words across the butt. So. Tacky. Also, why is smoking still a thing? I think it's absolutely disgusting and I hate hate hate the way it smells, especially when I'm walking behind someone and I get a huge puff of smoke blown straight into my face. Disgusting!

  9. I'm totally with you on the sweatpants and the flu shot. I never get a flu shot (even though as a diabetic, I'm on the "must" list).

But I actually like Vegas. Gambling, within reason, can be a fun diversion. The shows are fun (saw Cirque du Soleil there). The themed casinos are REALLY fun. The architecture is very creative. I love the Venetian and Palazzo and the Paris hotel. I could never go for more than a couple days, but it's fun if you don't take any of it seriously.

  10. I totally agree on the Las Vegas statement! I have never been there and have no desire to. When I tell people that, they look at me like I'm crazy!
And infidelity has become so common that it is sad! The morals of our times are in the toilet!
I used to get a flu shot but haven't in the last 5 years or so and have not been sick once!

  11. This is a fun post! I've been to Vegas twice and would be okay not to go back. There are so many other American cities I would like to visit instead.

Am I the only one who doesn't like Toms and thinks they are not office appropriate?

Am I the only one who hates when women with fake nails tap them against a counter or desk? The sound drives me insane!

  12. Definitely with you on the whole bathroom talking thing. I am NOT a fan.

And yes, infidelity has become a very odd thing in our society. As someone who knows more than a few people who have had to deal with it it really bugs me that people think it's cute, however I'm guilty of reading books where it's involved.

Oh, and yes, any year I get a flu shot, I get the flu and am so sick. So I avoid it!

  13. - who doesn't like to talk to others while I am going to the bathroom (seriously, why do people do this! It makes me so uncomfortable!)? IT IS SO GROSS AND WRONG!!

    - who feels like society has become numb to infidelity and dare I say, finds it "cute" (as evidenced by the popularity of the book/movie "Something Borrowed")?

I have so much to say about this, but the short answer is that I agree. I think one of the many problems people today have is that they watch too many movies and think marriage is all about crazy passion for the rest of your life when really it's as much about committment as anything else (ok actually it's probably 75% committment).

  14. I'm with you there on the flu shot! E got the shot last year and got the flu. I'm really thinking of skipping it this year for all of us.

  15. Bahaha--I was nodding my head on every single one except two of 'em. I totally say pee and I refuse to read OR watch Harry Potter....and I also felt the same way about Vegas--adamantly opposed to it--until this summer when my gal and I snagged a hotel there at 2am mid-road trip...and I decided it might be worth a weekend--just not as crazy a weekend as most would do. :)

  16. I love Vegas! I've been so many times!! :) I am sooo with you on flu shot. I will never get it again, I was sooo sick when I got it!

  17. I actually think it would be fun to go to Vegas with Eric for a weekend - more to take in shows and go hiking and shop than anything though. Plus it's usually super cheap to get there for a weekend getaway (from here anyways!)

I can't think of a good "am I the only one" right now but this is a super fun post so I may just do it on my own blog next week!

  18. I felt the same way about Vegas until I went last year with my husband and two of our friends. I had an absolute blast! It's such a crazy place. It's best to go there for short periods of time, though. 2 or 3 days max.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Nope, you're not the only one. I've never been to Vegas, and I have no desire to ever go. I believe Vegas is a cliche.

    ReplyDelete
  20. These were all true! After my last trip to Vegas, I could wait a long time until I go again. Now if the manfriend and I went together, that would be different. I would be inclined to stay at a nicer hotel, see shows and go to some of the awesome restaurants and muuuch less of the clubbing stuff.

Oh and the one year I did get a flu shot, I got sick WAY more often than I had any other year.

  21. Could not agree more about almost all of these. I was just saying to Eric last night I find it SO weird that people post political stuff all over facebook. I promise I will never EVER be one of your FB friends who does this. I also have no interest in going to Vegas or watching the Harry Potter movies.
Also on infidelity- I don't love it in books/movies, I never thought it was the infidelity in particular that bothered me but I just can't stand the endless literature about people in unhappy marriages. However, I realized recently that I really don't know anyone who cheats in their marriage (at least that I know of) in real life. When Eric told me about someone I know (sort of, not a friend) who did recently I was literally shocked and couldn't get over it. Eric said he was never going to tell me again, oops. But seriously... are people kidding me? I don't know- just makes me feel kind of sick honestly.

  22. I'll make it short. You absolutely are NOT the only one! (especially the FB profile/election stuff.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. You are definitely not alone about Vegas. I have zero desire to ever go there. A loved one almost destroyed her life due to a gambling addiction, and I also just think it's tacky.

    ReplyDelete
  24. When I'm with close friends I don't mind talking in the bathroom. But I'm not a fan of doing it at work, and would prefer to just ignore everyone in the bathroom at the office. Ha!

And I do like Vegas. Not because of the gambling. But because it's fun going through all the different themed casinos, and they have a lot of fun stores and restaurants too. We actually used to go to Vegas a lot when I was a kid, so most of my Vegas memories are kid-friendly which I don't think people realize a lot of Vegas is.

  25. who wants to have funnnnnn tonight? okay, that's all i could think about when i read your title.. love me some dierks bentley! oooh and fb during election season is a useful friend weeding tool! ;)

  26. I have to pee right now just reading your post. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I sometimes talk to my friends in the restroom if we are the only ones in there, but I would never talk to people at work. I will make it a point not to talk to you! Also, I have never had a flu shot in my life and I haven't had the flu since I was a child (knock on wood!)

Am I the only one... who hates the phrase "it is what it is"... who likes black licorice... who doesn't like social hour in the morning at work... who thinks dogs are smelly and hairy and wouldn't want to pick up their poop anyway... who doesn't watch or want to watch big brother, the bachelor and all those other reality/TV shows...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with you about the sweat pants - they are so tacky!

The Harry Potter movies are the worst, most predictable, boring movies I think I have ever seen. I stopped watching after the third. All three were the exact same movie over again. Awful!

I might try this idea out on my blog - fun!!!

  28. I'm guilty of pee confessions. Bowing head in shame.

  29. I've never gotten a flu shot... and I've never gotten the flu. Not even while working at the daycare! So, can't say I'm a huge believer in it!

I've read the Harry Potter books and I also don't really have a desire to see the movies. Or even read through the books again. Once was enough for me!

I would like to go to Vegas someday. I think it would be fun for a weekend. Just to get away and enjoy the scenes. Not so much for the partying and gambling.

  30. Wow, I agree with you so much on these.

I have no desire to go to Vegas! I like to go to bed at 9. So "the city of lights" is not for me. When the sun goes down, I go with it.

I am basically forced to get the flu shot with my job. If I refuse, I have to sign this stupid "refusal" form. But I agree with you ;)

Nothing should be written on one's butt. Unless you're lounging at home. I just don't think sweat pants are meant to be worn out in public. You can wear nice "workout pants" in public -- but not sweatpants. And there is a difference, I believe.

  31. Maybe it's because I'm Canadian, but Vegas sounds so exciting to me. I've never been but have always wanted to take a short trip there! Is it overrated? Ah well.

& the sweatpants with words on the behind are SO TACKY. Especially worn in public. I have an ooooold cheap pair that I wear to bed but I like to pretend there are no words on the back haha. They also never leave my room.

I think the Harry Potter movies are good and bad. I'm personally obsessed with both books and movies & when I re-read them this summer felt the immediate need to re-watch all the movies. Obviously they're nowhere NEAR as good as the books, but I've come to really love those movies anyway.

    Fun post!!
