5 Things Friday

Happy Friday, everyone!  This has been a completely whirlwind week and went by far faster than I thought it would.  I thought I'd close out the week with a 5 things Friday post to share what's on my mind!

1.  I shouldn't be surprised how easy it was to fill my time since I arrived home on Monday night, but I am!  I had social plans every night this week and there is still a long list of people that I need to see!  But the nice thing is that I don't have to cram everything into one weekend visit home - I have all the time in the world (well outside of work and other commitments) to see family and friends.  It's so good to be back in a city where I have a full social calendar again as living in Charlotte was just SO lonely (hence the reason I traveled as much as I did).

2.  While it's been fun to have a busy week, I am looking forward to the quiet weekend ahead at the lake.  I can't wait to spend time with my family, meet my new niece (finally!), celebrate my sister and nephew Charlie's birthdays, and wake up to the view of the lake.  The weather over Memorial Day weekend is usually not very nice but it will be gorgeous this weekend as the temps will be in the 70s.  Life moves more slowly at the lake so a weekend there is just what I need before I start my new job next week!

3.  Speaking of which, I am starting to get a little nervous about starting my new job.  It's only natural that I'd feel this way, of course.  I do know quite a few people at my new job so that will make the environment more friendly and welcoming but it's still a big change and even though it's a change I wanted, it's still nerve wracking...  But hopefully by the end of the summer I'll feel settled in and comfortable in my new work environment.

4.  I move into my condo a week from today and am SO excited.  That means I had to ask for a day off during my first week of work but my boss was really understanding as he relocated to Minneapolis last year.  I can't wait to get unpacked and settled in.  I've been in a state of transition for several weeks and am just ready to have more of a sense of permanence.  My aunt and uncle are going to help me that morning as it's kind of overwhelming when they are delivering the boxes and furniture and calling out numbers and such and then Phil will come over after work to help me unpack so I will have lots of help which is very nice.

5.  Lastly, I'll close out with some really good news!  The insurance company of the person who hit me called yesterday and said they have determined that their insured party was at fault!  So now they will pay for the damages and I do not have to pay my deductible!  Yea!!!  I am so so so happy about this as I did not need an expense on top of all the other expenses I am incurring related to this move.  I did get a lump sum relo package which more than covers the cost of my move so these expenses are not coming out-of-pocket for me but I am trying to spend as little of the relo package as possible so I can put the amount left towards my grad school student loans (totally obsessed with getting those paid off this year!).

What's on your mind today?  Do you have any plans for the weekend?

  1. Yay about the insurance company! I wonder how that happened... but then again, who cares as long as it did?!

I'm so excited you'll be meeting your niece this weekend! We are headed down to the Cape, which will be great minus the traffic ha ha. I think we will come home later on Sunday night, and then spend the day Monday at home- it's supposed to be 80 here which is crazy. Maybe I'll get my first outdoor swim in at my favorite pond :)

  2. SO pumped about the insurance company! And so glad you've had such a lovely week!

This weekend is kind of a down weekend for me which is nice because May has been crazy! Plus it gives me time to pack and start prepping for our vacation because we leave a week from tomorrow!

  5. I am so happy to hear the good news about your insurance company! That is so wonderful, and I'm glad you don't have to worry about that anymore. What a relief!

Yay for so many social plans, time at the lake, meeting your new niece, and moving into your new home soon.

New job jitters are so tough! I got them very bad with my new job, mainly because I hoped I wasn't making a huge mistake. I KNEW I wasn't, but it's so scary starting something new! You will be GREAT, though. I have no doubt about that!

  6. Your upcoming weekend sounds really nice! How exciting to finally get to meet your niece! I think you're right about it being natural to be nervous before starting a new job. It's awesome that your boss recently relocated so he understand how much you have on your plate right now. I'm excited for you to move in and get settled, it's my favorite part about moving. Plus it's even better that you are moving into the condo you wanted - yay! So glad the insurance companies came to a resolution you are happy with. That was the last thing you needed to be worrying about with everything else you have going on! Have a fantastic long weekend!

  7. I am so happy that the insurance company accepted responsibility! I am almost in shock over that after your insurance company pretty much accepted that you had to pay the deductible! I'm glad you are going to switch companies!
Can't wait to see you at the lakes! It seems the last three years that you were only half present when you came to the lake as you were always knee deep in studying for the CFA exam so this will be really relaxing!

  8. Well we should only be doing moving related things This weekend, but instead we're going to a 1920s themed party on Saturday, dinner with friends on Sunday and a birthday in Brooklyn on Monday. I'll relax in July...

I'm so happy that the insurance situation was resolved!

  11. I love how your posts are full of good things lately! Even your worry about starting your new job is still at the bottom of it a good thing.

As for my weekend, we're actually planning on taking things a little calm. Although we did see Reba and George Strait in concert last night, but from now on expect it to be quite a bit calmer.

  14. SUCH great news about the insurance and just one less thing to worry about! I know moving is always so stressful but I hope it goes as smoothly as possible for you this weekend. And I definitely understand how nervewracking a new job can be. I'm sure you'll be adjusted in no time, though! Good luck! Will be thinking about you tomorrow.

  16. I hope your weekend was fabulous! We spent it cleaning and planting around the house and celebrating the munchkin's 3rd birthday! And we attempted to put up our new pool but we need new tubes. So on to next weekend. The weather was gorgeous and I'm still like a month behind on blog reading hahaha.
