Music, Books, Miles and Looks of August

Well hello, September!  I'm excited for what this month will bring (especially my girls running rendezvous in San Francisco) but August was pretty darn fantastic, too.

Music:

I Lived by One Republic -  I couldn't find a good live version of this song so the audio from the album will have to suffice.  I like the lyrics/message behind this song of making the most out of life.

Books:

It was another 3 book kind of month for me, which isn't bad but isn't as much as I usually read.  I am just not making the time to read these days but hopefully when (if?) things slow down this fall I'll make more time for reading!

The Wharf of Chartrons by Jean-Paul Malaval - 2 stars
One Plus One by JoJo Moyes- 3 stars
The Pearl that Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hishimi - 4 stars

Miles:

I had another strong month of running and ran 109 miles. My mileage was lower than last month but I'm happy with the number of miles I got in.  I have my trail half this month and while I probably haven't ran trails as much as I should, I think I am well-prepared for the race as my club has ran quite a bit of hills.  In addition to running, I've been good about incorporating a mix of strength training and yoga into my workouts each week and for the 5th month in a row I met my goal of 31 workouts in 31 days!  My goal is to do it again this month and then maybe give myself a break in October.

Looks:

One of my favorite looks of the month was the top I kept from my second Fix which I paired with cropped orange pants (side note:  Phil swears these pants are red.  I think they are orange but we are probably splitting hairs here by debating that).

My other favorite look was a maxi dress that I wore to Phil's friend's wedding this past Saturday.  It was really comfortable but had an elegant enough feel to be appropriate for a wedding.

  1. Love your dress for the wedding and your orange pants (I agree with you, ha ha). I'm in a bit of a reading rut too but I haven't read anything SUPER good lately which is definitely part of the problem.

  2. I, too, vote orange! Lovely dress and I love the rhubarb plant you are standing in front of! It still looks so healthy for this time of year! My summer reading has been slow as a turtle so am also hoping for more time to do that soon! I think I read a couple of chapters this weekend so I'm on a climb!

  3. You look gorgeous in both of these!! Funny - I think I see red?!? Maybe I need to see in person and my mind would change. Nevertheless, I LOVE that outfit! And that dress is perfect!

I love the transition of now you reflect on your monthly posts as being awesome. Where 6 months ago - you'd refer to them has tough. Yay!!!

  7. I'm Team Orange for the pants!

At this point, I'm not sure WHEN your life is going to slow down but that's not a bad thing. Just a new season to embrace. Less time for reading means you're having more experiences and time with friends/family. There are just times in our lives when other things take priority. Managing to read 3 books in the midst of everything is still pretty good in my book (oh, ha, pun!).

  8. Any month where you get over 100 miles of running done is a win in my book. Great job and good luck in the half this month!

  9. You look great, Lisa! Love the outfit with the Stitch Fix top. Don't you have another fix arriving today??? =D

  10. LOVE that stitch fix top and also love that maxi dress on you! And yes, those pants are orange ;) Actually, I guess they could maybe be considered coral? I'd have to see them in person to make my real decision on the colour though as I know those colours can look so different in photos. It's kind of funny how colours look different to different people!

Glad you had such a great month of August! Here's to an awesome September too. Can't wait to see you in a few weeks!

  12. I really love your maxi dress. Navy is a great color on you! I read only one book in August. Nothing is super appealing to me right now, though I definitely crave reading more in the colder months.

  13. I adore that dress. Looks fabulous on you -- good color! And it looks like it was a good month. I do love September, too, and am eager to get back into the swing of things, not the least of which is catching up with your life right here!

  15. Agreed about the looks - love them both!

I kind of can't believe it's September - I normally have so much planned this month but am just taking it easy right now. I think fall always whizzes by because it's so packed so I'm looking forward to just enjoying the season for once!
