I received my 3rd fix towards the end of last week. It's so fun to come home to a box of clothes! I had asked my stylist to focus on fall items. Here's what she sent me!
Item #1 - Navy jersey dress
It's hard to see the detail of the dress in this crappy iPhone photo but it has a really fun neckline and some ruching through out the body which is flattering. I also liked that it has a higher neckline as I do not like wearing lower cut dresses since I work in a male dominated environment. I decided to keep it because it's something I can pair with a cardigan on warm fall days or I think I could add tights and wear it with boots and a heavier cardigan when the weather turns cooler.
Item #2 - Striped skirt
I pulled this item out of the box and thought - this is cute, but this is SO NOT fall like. I also didn't care for the elastic waist as I don't think elastic waists are flattering on me as my stomach is my trouble area. Trying it on confirmed that I needed to send it back. If I had received this in spring and if it had a zipper enclosure, I might have felt differently about it.
Item #3 - 3/4-length sleeve cardigan
I think they technically referred to this as a jacket but I consider a cardigan due to the type of material. It felt a bit frumpy so I sent it back.
Item #4 - Top
My 4th item was a silky maroon top. It has some fun detailing on the neckline, which you can't see in this photo, and it's a top I will get a lot of use out of as it goes with cropped pants, dress pants, and pencil skirts. I am always needing more versatile tops like this, so I kept it.
Item #5 - Chevron print 3/4-length sleeve dress
This dress is definitely not something I would have picked off a rack at a store but once I got it on, I liked it. I really liked that it had sleeves as I am always freezing in my office. However, the fabric was really thin and I felt like the price was too high for the type of fabric so my verdict was to send it back.
The final tally = I kept 2 items and sent 3 back. If the price of the chevron-print dress would have been lower, I would have kept that as well. So all in all, I feel like my stylist did a pretty good job. Since I am keeping 1-2 items per fix, I think it is worth continuing to do it. I think if I didn't vehemently dislike shopping so much then maybe this service wouldn't be worth it, but given my great dislike for shopping, it's still worth it even if I only keep 1 item/fix.
I am going to do another fix at the end of September and this time I asked my stylist to send more fall looks and to keep in mind that I live in a part of the country where it can be cold in the fall so I will need heavy, sturdier fabrics.
I just did some fall shopping, too - at Salvation Army and Rainbow! I totally shop at Rainbow for trendy stuff - it falls apart after the only 4 times I'd wear it anyway, but it was all off the $3 rack. This time I actually got a really pretty lace shift dress, though, so I hope that one holds up!
ReplyDeleteI really like both of the dresses and agree that the cardigan looks frumpy - more my style! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun way to shop!
I think it's a great idea to remind your stylist where you live and what kind of clothes you want (i.e., fall, heavier fabrics). I'm pretty sure SF is out of SF (San Francisco, ha!) and I sometimes think they don't consider (or just don't really know) the climate of their client. It doesn't hurt to give details about what you want.
ReplyDeleteAs far as this fix goes ... from what I know about you, your fashion taste, your work environment and what I can guess you put on your profile, I actually think they did a really good job of sending you pieces. I love the jersey dress and am glad you kept it. And you're right about the top you kept - very versatile! I love the striped skirt and think you look awesome in it, but totally agree that it screams spring more than fall. I thought "conservative" when I saw that cardigan and wasn't surprised they sent it to you (assuming you have some comments in your profile about working in a conservative environment), but agree with your choice to send it back. And, I also agree that if the chevron dress material was too thin, then you should send it back, too (which is too bad - it would be a super cute fall outfit when paired with a pair of boots!). I take your reactions to SF personally (ha), so I'm extra glad you continue to have a positive experience with the service! ;)
Love the chevron dress so bummer about the fabric. Maybe Stitch Fix will start picking up better fabrics for some of their clothes since I hear a lot of the same complaints/frustrations from folks about the fabric and if it had been different, they would have kept it!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pieces you did keep.
Good choices!! Love the dress. I wish they shipping to Canada this would be so fun! You look great!
ReplyDeleteThe chevron looked great on you. It's a style worth loking for again in another fabric. And I liked the basic dress -- I think you'll get lots of mileage out of that. And I think you were spot on about the cardigan!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love that first dress! Super cute and very YOU. I love cowl necklines. :)
ReplyDeleteI really need to do some fall shopping ... I need work cloths, and haven't purchased a pair of footwear in over 2.5 years!
ReplyDeleteLove that navy jersey dress! so cute.
ReplyDeleteI agree with every decision you made with this fix! The cardigan looks like something my grandma would wear... definitely very frumpy! I wish I could afford SF because I really don't like trying on clothes outside of my home. I think this fix is my favorite of the ones you've done so far!
ReplyDeleteI love these stitch fix posts! And I agree with all your decisions!!
ReplyDeleteThese are so fun to read! You're really making me want to try Stitch Fix! My problem is, I would want everything and would have a hard time sending it back. lol
ReplyDeleteI really like that Navy dress! That striped skirt not so much.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with all your choices! I feel like the two you kept are both very you. I'm really not a fan of cardigan, and while I don't dislike the other one they don't really feel like you either.
ReplyDeleteI do love looking at your boxes though, and really think it would be fun to start myself next spring once I'm back to more normal sizes.
I really really love that red blouse so I'm glad you kept that. I do think that chevron dress looks awesome on you, it's too bad the price point was too high for the fabric. But now that you know that style looks good on you maybe you will be more likely to pull something like that off the rack in the future!! I think Stitch Fix has done a pretty good job with your fixes so far!
ReplyDeleteCute! Love that maroon top!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your "keeps" and your "send backs"!! :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like about this concept, that just dawned on me, is the fact you get to try these clothes on at home. With normal, non-enhanced/skewed mirrors. With your shoes/ect to pair. I often feel like the mirrors at stores are "off". I swear something will look great on me at the store, and then when I get it home - it looks awful?! Maybe I'm just crazy...
These posts are so fun!!
