Weekend recap

We had a beautiful fall weekend! The temps have cooled off but it’s still beautiful during the day which is my favorite.

On Friday Phil took Paul to the driving range after school since it was so nice outside. I met a former colleague that still works in the same industry as me for coffee before getting Taco from daycare.

Taco had been waking at night last week, probably because of the cough he picked up at daycare, but he slept through the night on Friday night and was up at 6:30! Phew! I needed a solid night of uninterrupted sleep. Once Phil was up for the day I headed out for a 6 mile run. I signed up for a 10k race on Thanksgiving morning so I plan to maintain 6ish mile weekend runs.

One of the paths I ran on. I’m lucky that most of my runs are on dedicated run/walk paths.

Then the boys and I headed to the library where we ran into friends. The boys enjoyed playing with the camping toys.

After lunch I had to pull data for work again - last time for awhile (hopefully) as my colleague who took this task over from me last spring is back this week. Then I laid down and took a monster 2 hour nap while Paul had screen time and Phil and Taco went to his mom’s. I have felt so tired lately and a couple of nights of Taco waking did not help so I really needed this solid nap. I so want to be a person that doesn’t need naps. But the reality is that I do between this demanding stage of parenting, my RA, and my intense schedule at work.

We walked/scooted to the park that afternoon. The weather was gorgeous!

Then after dinner it was time to head to the Pumpkin Spectacular at the zoo. This is an annual tradition for us and we had so much fun!!

There was a zoo employee taking photos so we got a non-selfie together!

Taco had a good day at Nana’s, too. They went to Costco where he basically wanted everything.

All that fresh air, excitement, and movement meant everyone slept well. I slept until 7 and was the first one up! I went to bed with a sore throat so my body is clearly fighting something off, hence allll the extra sleep I seem to need.

The boys were resistant to going to Sunday school so I got them out the door by enticing them with a Halloween scavenger hunt. We looked for a ghost, spiderweb, witch, pumpkin, cat, and skeleton. We managed to find and take pictures of everything! The ghost was the hardest to find.

It took much cajoling to get the kids out of the house for swimming lessons, too. Actually cajoling was really the word of the day for most interactions with Taco… Both boys are making good progress in lessons.

This is a short week for Paul and me as we fly to DC to visit my sister and her family for fall break! I haven’t seen her since last September so we are long overdue for a visit!!

How was your weekend?

sounds like a lovely weekend. So nice to sign up for 10km race for thanksgiving, the weather must be perfect. I like 10km distance for racing as it could be short and intense at the same time. Have fun in DC! so nice to meet with the family. Oh... halloween theme is popping up and looks so fun.

Happy fall break to you, Lisa! Everyone deserves to take care of themselves, but I feel like you EXTRA deserve a big long nap. You do so much, Lisa! You're really an incredible woman, how you show up for everything and work so hard and travel so much and parent little ones so well. You are always doing fun things with them - your boys are so fortunate to have such a present mom that is always taking them to do fun and interesting things. What I'm saying is that you are amazing and a two-hour nap sounds like something that you need in your life! Also, hope you don't get full-on sick. Go away, sore throat!

One thing that I am looking forward to when I stop working is being able to just take a nap anytime that I am tired. My schedule is much less demanding than yours (no small kids, no RA, and travel for fun instead of for work), but I do get soooo tired.

I caught up with a friend on Saturday and hung out with the fam the rest of the time. I have today off for the holiday and I'm taking Friday off for a fun family weekend trip so I'm looking at a 3 day workweek this week! Woo hoo!

I don't have RA, I work part-time FROM home and I need naps multiple times a week. So if I lived your life, I think I would be napping hours a day. Plus, it's good for us to get extra rest.

What a great weekend! You fit in so many fun things - and that takes a lot of effort. I hope your trip with Paul is so much fun and a nice change from work travel.

Oh, I'm a napper- your life is a lot more intense than mine so you shouldn't feel bad about it! I hope you're feeling better today.
Sounds like a fun weekend (other than all the cajoling, ha.) I love all the fall-themed activities! Can't wait to hear all about your trip- I hope it's fun.

Hooray for some non-work travel! I hope you have a great time with your sister.

The weekend sounds really fun and full, Lisa. You and Phil are so great at finding all sorts of enjoyable activities for your boys. And naps are nothing to feel the least guilty about. You are doing SO much and you have a ton of things on your plate, and from my perspective you are doing a kick ass job as a parent, human, and employee. I hope the sore throat feels better!

It was in the low 30s where I was this weekend (QC) and I'm not ready for this! Luckily I have enough clothing but the wind was brutal. However, today it's downright warm in comparison (it's probably 50). I'll take it And no rain please!!

It looks like you guys had a fun weekend. I love fall and even if it's a little chilly, the crisp air and leaves are just so comforting if that makes sense. I think it's the perfect weather for a nap. I don't usually nap, but when I was studying for the CFA I did!! My brain just needed a rest!!

I love naps, but I so prefer feeling like I don't 'need' a nap. Things are what they are and I'm lucky that with my job, I can sometimes close my eyes and snooze for a few minutes during actual nap time at my daycare. I had off yesterday, because of the school holiday and I napped for over an hour. I am hoping to get back on track with solid sleep each night. Love the Halloween outing and I hope you have a great visit in DC. I took Lad to DC to visit my sister as a reward for him reading a record breaking number of books in 4th grade. We planned the trip with miles last minute and the only seats we could get were in first class. Oh well. ;)
