Chop Chop Bo-Bop

Greetings and happy Friday everyone! It was a fun, hectic, rainy week for me. I am so glad the weekend is here! I have a good mix of relaxation + fun planes - and I have my last double digit long run before the marathon (12 miles on Sunday). It's single digits going forward until the marathon!

One activity I am really looking forward to is a knife skills class that I will be taking at Cooks of Crocus Hill, a local cooking store that hosts classes. They have a special event on Saturday so classes are only $10 which is quite the steal! I will be going to the clases, "Chop Chop Bo-Bop" where we'll learn some chopping techniques while making salsa. There will be 30 minutes of instruction and then 30 minutes of hand-on practice. Taking a knife skills class is actually on my 30 before 30 list so I am excited to cross something else off the list!

I've had people tell me that they get nervous when they watch me chop things - specifically one of my ex-boyfriends. He said he felt like we were always moments away from a trip to the emergency room. I have never cut myself while slicing and dicing, but I do know I have some room for improvement! I am sure I'll have a full report on the class next week at some point!

Have you taken any cooking classes? Do you think you have good knife skills?

Our work Christmas party last year was actually a fancy dinner at a cooking school - they had big countertops and screens so we could see what they were doing, and they gave us all the recipes for everything we ate. It was awesome, we've made that meal SO many times this year! I do well with easy recipes :)

Have fun, let us know how it goes! And good luck on Sunday! :)

You will have to pass you new learned skils on to me as I've cut myself numerous times while chopping, dicing etc! Have fun!

I love that the class is called Chop Chop Bo-Bop. Kind of makes me want to break out in song.

Love that you're taking the class & you get to make salsa =)

Enjoy!

LOL that is so funny. I am really, really fast with knives (years of speedy kitchen prep) but I rarely cut myself. If I do it's usually because I'm distracted, not cutting too rapidly.
I think a knife skills class would be awesome. They probably teach you the best knives for various foods, too. I used to have this incredibly sharp Chicago Cutlery paring knife I used for everything, even tomatoes, but when it vanished in a cross country move I had to start trying different types of knives. Nothing works as well as the ol' standby though :(

This sounds like a lot of fun. I am not skilled at using at using knives at all. I rely on youtube videos and my own imagination to cut things, with sometimes disasterous results.

Hands-on cooking classes are the best, and around here, they're never $10 a pop ... so, that's awesome you're taking advantage of that opportunity!

I have taken a few hands-on cooking classes, which were alright. They were more fun than a real learning experience. However, I'd love to take a knife skills class ... both Sweets and I have dramatically improved our knife and chopping and slicing and dicing skills, thanks to the Food Network, but I could stand to learn more!

Hi! I have always wanted to take a class there. After a trip to the emergency room to repair a kitchen chopping mishap, I purchased proper and better knives. I am just preparing you for the fact they may "help you realize" you NEED a few new knives to make your newly acquired chopping skills work to their full capacity. Anxious to hear how it goes. Now that we are back in town and when our company leaves, you and I will plan our next "Julia" event. Incidentally, have you read "Cleaving"?

How fun! I want to do a cooking technique class so bad (especially chopping). I don't know if you're aware, but I have SERIOUS issues with near-finger-losses when I chop. In fact, back in January - if I wasn't in "community health" (where we did nothing medical) - I would've had to miss clinicals my cut was so bad. I had a GIANT dressing on my hand.

Pass on your wisdom to me if you feel free! And yay for crossing another thing off the list!

Also, congrats on the last double-digit run of your training!

That class sounds great and certainly not a bad price either! You seem to find all kinds of neat things. Enjoy the shorter run this weekend!

Ooooh that sounds like such a fun way to spend the afternoon! I am also a terrible slicer and have a scar on the end of my finger after a trip to the emergency room + six stitches to prove it :D

I think I'm getting better with my chopping skills. I used to be awful at cutting cantaloupe but I'm proud to say I've gotten my time down to 12 minutes a 'lope! (Don't laugh - it used to be 25!)

...yeah, I guess I still need a lot of work.

I would LOVE to do a knife skills course! People always say i am a good cook, but the few who see me chops stuff look horrified!

Lol Eric says the SAME thing about me when I am cutting things! I should probably take the class! Hope you have fun!

I haven't taken a cooking class, but I am trying to find one to take ... I think it would be lots of fun!

I'm not very good with knife skills. I'm very accident prone and have cut myself multiple times. Usually it's not while cooking though, but rather doing outside things. Nick is always afraid I'm going to cut myself cooking though and usually takes over that part of meal prep. I hope you have fun at class and learn a lot!

That would be a great class for me! I'm sure people have the same feeling about a trip to the ER when they watch me cut stuff up!
