So here's what I did this weekend, in bullet point form:
- Went on a lovely 7 mile run around 2 of my favorite local lakes, Calhoun & Harriet. It was really nice to run as far as I dang well pleased - I have been 'on the training grid' for the last 12 weeks so it's nice to do whatever I feel like doing now. I am sure I'll be antsy for another Higdon grid soon, though!
- Went to my local knitting shop and learned how to 'block' a scarf - which is basically steaming the scarf while it's skewered on wires to help the pattern open up. I love my local knitting shop, Bella Lana. I love wandering around, checking out all the cool patterns and yarns. I picked up a couple of new patterns this weekend and can't wait to get started on them. I think I might actually make something for MYSELF for a change. My last 6-8 projects have been gifts for people.
- Met up with my aunt, 3 cousins, and my cousin's wife for dinner on Saturday night. It was so fun catching up with them and seeing their kids. I grew up 7 miles from my aunt & cousins so am very close to them. I'm so glad we've stayed close as we've all moved away from our home town, grown up, and started careers and families!
- Cooked a real meal for the first time in about, oh, 4-5 weeks. I made home-made vegetable beef stew!! Recipe to come later this week!
My days are so scheduled out these days - I tend to have about 4-5 hours of meetings every day at work, and then I schedule in work outs, so by the time the weekend comes, I kind of want to collapse (which I do on Friday night) and then do whatever I dang well please at whatever time I want to do it! This also means I am really not seeing a lot of friends during the week or weekends because I just can't handle scheduling more things into my schedule. I kind of feel guilty about this. But I know I need to take care of myself or I will run myself down and be in a mood where no one in their right mind will want to be around me!
I am sure that once I adjust to my new schedule, I'll be back to scheduling things to the hilt and seeing lots of people on the weekends, but I think for the rest of the year, I'll keep scheduled plans on the weekend to the minimum!
How was your weekend? Do anything exciting? Or were you low key like me?

Ah, sounds a lot like my life. I spent my Saturday picking out some yarn and knitting a hat. Sunday was more exciting when I went to the Colts game, but that was way out of the norm.
Between work, school, and other scheduled events I rarely see any of my friends, but that's also due to the fact that they live over an hour away. And when I go back up to my hometown, there are just too many people to see. I usually just visit my mom and my one good friend.
Have a great week!
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend the weekend. I wish we had a fun knitting shop.
I dont get to see my out of town best friends all that often, maybe once a month or so. I see my local friend once a week or so, thats what we strive for anyway -- usually we either grab coffee or dinner.
You seem to have fitted alot of stuff into your 'relaxing' weekend!
I can't wait for your recipe! Nom nom nom nom!
Also, I joined your online book club!
My weekend went way too fast since I didn't feel like I had much of a weekend at all!
Friday night we went out for sushi--which was incredible, and I definitely ate well over my share!
Saturday I had to be at the hospital all morning and into the afternoon for training at the hospital. Sunday I had my first clinical (luckily it was not a full day). So I kind of lived at the hospital this weekend.
Saturday night we made home made chicken-spinach tortellini, which was new/interesting/time consuming recipe.
Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend! isn't it fun to be able to run whatever length with no agenda every once in awhile? Glad you got some gorgeous weather!!
I love to knit but have found that crochet goes so much quicker sometimes. Right now I am working on two baby blankets for two friends who are having babies! Last Christmas I made scarves for a bunch of my friends!
I think it is wise to know yourself well enough to understand the importance to prioritize your time and not spread yourself too thin. Adjusting to a new job is very stressful, both physically and mentally!
Here is a fun tidbit. You probably already know about this, but I thought of you when I saw the sign in their window. There is this lovely wine bar/ bakery in Eagan called Pardon My French http://www.pardonmyfrench.eu/. I saw a sign in their window about their Sunday afternoon "Speak French Only" group. What a great idea to keep one's French current. I thought you might get a kick out of that. Or at least check out the place, because it really is quite nice. Lots of pastries, but nice soups and salads as well. The couple who own the place are French, he doesn't speak much English at all. It's great to have spots like this out in the burbs. Have a good week!
My weekend was low key too. I anxiously await the recipe for that beef and veggie stew. It sounds delish!
Sounds like a fun weekend! I can't believe you have 4-5 hrs of meetings daily. When do you have time to work?? Keeping a tight schedule always helps me.
I was low-key like you and I LOVED IT!!! I did spend quite a few hours doing homework, though, which was not fun.
I'm also loving running as far as I darn well please and not feeling bad for cutting my distance down. I woke up Saturday, decided to head out for a run and also did a lovely 7-mile out and back run in the countryside! Loved it :-)
I REALLY wanted to just relax this weekend since I'd been out-and-about the last two weekends in a row. But then my friends invited me to a potlach Saturday night. I was tired and really didn't *feel* like going, but I went anyways and actually had a nice, relaxing time!
Glad to hear you had such a nice weekend, dear. Looking forward to that stew recipe :-)
Oh...this weekend was MISERABLE.
I unfortunately had to work this weekend; two 10-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday...and attempting to make a decision re: my issue without being biased was nearly impossible.
But we had fun; we went to the local rescue zoo and stopped by an old time town/candy shop... for working, it wasn't so bad.
We had a busy/full weekend. Chris is out of town, so that was a bummer, but otherwise we had a nice time.
Friday night we had pizza/movie night and watched old family movies.
It was so much fun, that we watched some more on Saturday morning before cleaning. Sophia had a birthday party and then we had my girlfriend and her daughter over to scrapbook in the evening.
Sunday after church we went to a luncheon and then to see "A Christmas Carol" (Disney's) and did some quick shopping at Target & Michael's. (Two of my favorite stores.)
After only 5 days of "single-parenting", I am seriously questioning the sanity of a woman who would choose to single-parent ffourteen kids!
I'm the same way as you, I thought i'd be SO social on Fridays when I found out Eric was going to be at football haha yeah right, i'm in bed by like 9 haha. Oh well, gotta be well rested!
Great job on the run!!!
And, I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I SO wish you lived here so you could help me with my knitting!!! I'm working on a scarf right now... and have been working on it since last year. *sigh*. I'm really trying to constantly work on it when I'm watching TV though :)
I need to learn the knitting phraseology. It's so lost on me. You should definitely make something for yourself!
As you know, my weekend was spent in Florida and I'll be posting about it soon =)
