There's No Place Like Home

I was out of town the last 2 weekends - and while both weekends were quite lovely, I must say I was looking forward to a weekend at home. Nothing makes you appreciate the comforts of home quite like being away. It was wonderful having a quiet weekend at home!

This weekend I:

  • talked shop about work with a co-worker over a lovely glass of white wine.
  • finished a knitting project which is on its way to its recipient. She has no idea I was making something for her - I hope she likes the hat I knit for her!
  • did a ton of ironing while watching "Big Bang Theory" for the first time. Love that show. I was a math major so those are totally my people!!
  • tried a new recipe - it was a beef with vegetables recipe that turned out ok, but not quite good enough to share with you. I only share the recipes I love!
  • failed epically when trying to make GF pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. They were truly inedible. So, so annoying. GF baking is so dang finicky!
  • tried to like biking. I am not going to give up but I found it really uncomfortable!
  • bought a swim suit & a new swim cap. This was not fun. No matter how little I weigh, I never enjoy swim suit shopping. But I just didn't want to swim laps in a two piece so swim suit shopping was a must.
  • had dinner at my brother's. It was wonderful seeing my brother, sister-in-law, and the nephews. I SWEAR they have changed since I saw them less than month ago. Especially Mattie, who turns 2 in just under a month!! Their neighbors were over, so the house was full of kids. Which I love. I thoroughly enjoyed reading books, being crawled over, and carrying on a conversation about haircuts with an adorable 5 year old. Oh, and she asked me if I was pregnant! Ha!! I guess many of her aunts are pregnant, so it's a natural question she asks many women. I just had to laugh when she asked me!
  • was moved by both Sandra Bullock's tribute to her mom & Kathryn Bigelow's tribute to the men & women in the armed forces. I'm embarrassed to say I have only seen one of the 10 nominated movies!! I have lots of movie watching to do!
Tell me about your weekend!

I quit watching the Oscars, because I had heard of only like 2 of the movies (Yes, I do live under a rock, in fact) ;).

I looove weekends at home. In fact, my spring break has consisted of me being a total recluse. I looooved it.

Our weekend was nice! It was pretty crazy for Ryan until yesterday (Sunday) -- where we got a day together for the 1st time in ages! Went to mass, went for a hike, watched movies, I made lasagna, and we played Scrabble. Love days like that! It was rainy, too! :)

Haha "those are totally my people!" Love it! Glad you had a nice relaxing weekend - I wish I got to see my niece as much as you see your nephews! :)

I love that you had such a great weekend in. I was away more than I was home this weekend and feel like I need a day to recover.

Is it warm enough to go biking out and about or were you at the gym?

It was awesome talking to you Saturday.

I'm going to have to catch the highlights of the Oscars on YouTube I think :)

What's GF baking? (Sorry I'm sure it's painfully obvious but it's Monday morning and still early :))

Sounds like a good weekend! And, the weather warmed up, yes? I fell asleep during the Oscars. We hadn't seen any of the movies, so it didn't mean much to me.

I had a ton of friends who were engineers in university, those are my people too and I love that show.

If you're looking for some GF baking tips I know that Tia over here has some wonderful recipes and is really honest about what works and what doesn't =)

I cried when Sandra gave her acceptance speech. She has such grace and poise and beauty. (I think her husband is kind of hot, too =) )

Glad you had a great weekend!

I am yet to watch the Big Bang Theory. My dad and brother love it though!

Try spinning maybe? MUCH more fun/better then just plain biking. Although, this summer I'm going to try and teach myself how to bike outside. I'm terrified of biking outside!

Your weekend sounds great! Mine was good too, very productive! XO

My dad's a physicist and once in awhile someone on Big Bang Theory will say something that's a direct dad quote!

I so have a lot of movie watching to do as well! I always love watching the Academy Awards. Hang in there, you'll get better at the bike thing, but it does hurt your butt. Sometimes I wear my cycling shorts that have a chamois (padding) in them to spin for long periods of time at the gym. It definitely helps. I also suggest wearing capris or something, not plain running shorts to keep away from the chaffing. Good luck!

That is a busy weekend! The Big Bang Theory is my current favourite, and obviously Dave the physicist LOVES it!

The beef and vegetables sound yum! For making your muffins, instead of using GF flour, try using 110g of ground almonds and adding two eggs, beaten till fluffy!

I know what you mean about your nephews, about once a month i go into work and think 'you look so much more grown up'., particularly with Anna, who is the youngest!

It sounds like you had a fab weekend, which was well deserved!

I've only seen one of the movies too though, since I never see movies, people are actually shocked that I've seen one of the nominees. I randomly saw The Hurt Locker, which is not a move I'd normally ever watch, and it was brilliant.

I worship Sandra Bullock!

I was a math major, too. I knew I liked you... =)

Though I only saw a few minutes of the Oscars, I was very happy a female director was finally recognized for all her hard work and very glad an African American won another acting award.

What tickled me equally as pink? Avatar only winning what I'll call technical awards. All along I've been saying it was a technical masterpiece with a snoozer story line.

Sounds like a great weekend! I definitely know what you mean about weekends at home, so necessary!

I'm glad you got to vent about work a bit too :) That sounds necessary as well!

I just heard that Sandra's Mom has cancer so could have contributed to her emotional speech? We didn't watch the oscars so can't remark on it. We did see the movie "Blindside" on Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Such a fun week-end!!! Swimming definitely gets less uncomfortable (but never quite comfortable in my opinion). Now that I do spinning once a week, I think the part of my bum that would always hurt at first must be callussed over by now... lol!
