My New Home

Well after just over a month of living in my new home, I'm finally ready to share some pictures with you!  It's probably a good thing that over a month has passed since the move because it has dulled some of my feelings of rage over HOW POORLY my moving day was handled by my moving company.  Suffice it to say that they were very late, very unresponsive and then went to the wrong freaking address.  So yah...  if you ever move, do not use Suddath.  I'll leave it at that.

Now back to the happy post topic at hand - my new home.  I absolutely LOVE it.  I signed the lease and submitted my background check before I saw a single photo of this place but it really didn't matter because I knew they'd be painting the walls and replacing the flooring before I moved in.  I don't regret the decision to move as fast as I did on renting this place because I could not be happier with it!

One thing I really like about the apartment is the deep, open floor plan.  This is the main living room area.  I am so happy that I have plenty of room for my couch, dining room table, and piano and it doesn't feel crowded to me, which is a great feeling after feeling so cramped in my Charlotte apartment.

I bought an area rug and some throw pillows at Target the weekend after I moved in and am really happy with how my living room area looks.  I also really love the way my friends arranged all the photos above my couch!

I am also very happy with my kitchen!  I like that there is no soffit and that instead my cupboards go to the ceiling as that gives me extra space which is important as I have SO many kitchen gadgets and appliances.  The counters probably look a little cluttered but I use everything that I have out on the counters on a regular basis.

Why yes, those are watermelon rinds my garbage.  Watermelon gets cut up on a regular basis in this kitchen!
I also love my bedroom as it's big enough to fit most of my bookcases and randomly, the paint colors matches the color of my comforter perfectly!

I also like how my friends arranged the photos in this room.  The collage on the wall in the photo below is my family collage so the first thing I see when I get up in the morning is all my nephews and nieces.  Since this photo was taken I've had my aunt and uncle hang my curtain rod so my curtains could go up.  I'm hoping that a darker bedroom will improve my sleep quality.

Not pictured are the 4 closets and the storage unit that I have, which is a vast improvement over my Charlotte apartment where I had one closet total!  That is another reason that I don't feel so cramped in my new home as I have plenty of storage now!

And of course - the best part about my new home has to be the view!

I have a wonderful view of the Mighty Mississippi which is a-roaring right now thanks to all of the rain we've had lately!  The falls, which you can see to the right in the photo below, are so powerful right now, you actually get wet standing on a bridge just downstream.

The view at night is also stunning.  It was particularly beautiful on Saturday night when we had one of those pink sky sunsets.

I can already tell I am going to be spending a lot of time on my patio, reading, drinking coffee, and taking in the view.

So there you have it!  My new home!  I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes to love where I live.  My home is now a place of peace and comfort.

What is your favorite thing about your home?  My favorite things are the view and the location!

I love your home!!!! I'm ready to schedule my visit :) Everything looks so good!!! I LOVE your sectional and seriously want one just like it! We've been on the lookout for one! Your hanging photos look great :-) I'm so happy YOU are happy and pleased with it all. Nothing is better than feeling "at home" IN your home.

Right now my favorite spot in our house is the big front porch. I think by the end of summer it might be the backyard as we are in the midst of landscaping plans.

The inside still has a lot of work and I'm not overly happy with any specific room yet. I like things to be neat and organized and we're not there yet......

I love all these pictures! Your home looks so cozy and inviting. And I seriously cannot get over the beautiful view you have. It's so perfect!

I think what I love most about my apartment is the floor plan, which sounds funny but at my last apartment, my mom and I were basically on top of one another, so this one is MUCH bigger and gives us our own space, which is nice. It never feels cramped! And I also have a great view from my own patio, which I think is important!

Love it! I agree with Stephany - so cozy and inviting!

Right now I can't really think of anything I love about this one-bedroom apartment since I'm so ready to GET OUT! Talk to me in a few days once we hear about the townhouse and I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune. :)

Shoot, I think my other comment didn't go through. Basically I just said, I love your apartment ESPECIALLY your view. Having a balcony like that is basically my dream :) So happy that you are home!

Home sweet home! Awe, perfect! I can see why you feel so comfortable there and the view from the balcony is perfect! I bet you can even hear the water which to me is calming and relaxing! I love the sounds of water except when it's running in the basement or from a leaking pipe - then not so much!
Your friends did a great job of hanging your prints!

What a great place!! The view is totally awesome :-)

My favourite thing about my home is probably the location. We are walking distance to downtown, and a block from the lake/park in our city (basically our version of central park).

Wow what an amazing view! I'm so glad you're happy with your new place. I LOVE our apartment. It's probably one of the only things I would say I "love" about Pittsburgh. It's in an older building, and it has beautiful hardwood floors, crown molding, wall molding, etc. Personality to the nines :)

I really love home tours! Your apartment is adorable and has so many great things about it! I love, love, love the view off your balcony, and I love the paint color in your bedroom. I also love the open concept in the kitchen/dining room/living room. When I buy a house I would love to have that same feel in my main living area.

There are a few things I don't like about my current apartment. I live in a four family house and I don't have any outside space that is private. The parking sucks. The kitchen, while big, is not really functional - it's one long counter with the stove and fridge on the end. I do have two bedrooms which is probably my favorite aspect because I have three cats(well, three plus a foster that may turn permanent) and a one bedroom apartment would feel so cramped. I like my living room too. I have a good amount of closets and storage, and a W+D hookup. All in all I can't complain because my rent is cheap and it includes oil heat which is a huge plus in the winter, but it's definitely taught me what I want in a house when it's time to start looking!

Lisa, it's fabulous! I love every single room, though I have to admit I had a few pangs of serious envy at your terrific kitchen! It's beautiful, and really, it has come together so very fast! Three cheers! (Someday when I come visit Aunt Beth in MPLS, I want a tour -- at sunset!)

My favorite part of my house is my knotty pine family room/fireplace (which doesn't work but is getting repaired this summer!). That and my neighborhood!

Adorable! You have great taste. And that view! So jealous.

Loving on that rug you got at Target -- I'm looking for one for my bedroom. Hopped right on over to their website and it doesn't look like it's available anymore. Tragic!

I love it! Looks so great and I love that you have such an amazing view! Having seen that view in person before I can vouch for how awesome it is!

I really love the layout of our home, I like that it's tall and narrow and it works really well for having guests because we still get a lot of privacy on the top floor where our bedroom is. I also really like our location!

The place looks great and I cannot get over the view.

My favorite thing about our place is that there are 3 closets. Yes, that's still rough with 2 people, but a pre-war with 3 closets in NYC is practically mythical.

I love your place and can definitely see why you love it so much! The views. The locale. The space! Cannot be beat!!

I love how much space you have - and your views are spectacular!!

Favorite thing about my home is our backyard with the mountain views. It's too much house for us - but it's worth it for the views.

If you could send your friends here to do my gallery walls, that would be splendid. You flat is gorgeous, lovely and airy. I like your mixture of wood finishes also. And oh, that view!

Your home looks absolutely amazing, wish I could come and see it in person. It would really make my wife's day to see that wonderful house. It has inspired the both of us to go out and renovate our house and model it to yours. Thank you for sharing this with us. Keep posting more in the future. Thank you.
