Out with a Bang

Happy Monday!  I had a great time hosting Lori this weekend and will show you what all we did later this week!!

October has been a blur. A cursory glance at my planner shows why it's been a blur.

It's been a really fun month, but a busy one.  I've had 3 friends visit and have had lots of other social obligations plus a work trip to Charleston.  My free nights have been few and far between and Phil and I haven't had as much one-on-one time as we'd like.  But I did have a really fun month and I know that life will slow down when winter hits as we tend to hibernate in this part of the country when it gets cold.  I am not looking forward to the decline in temperatures, but I have to admit that I am looking forward to a quieter schedule!  But for now, I am embracing my busy schedule and soaking up all the time with friends.

October has been a busy month but we are ushering it out with a bang as we have a week full of fun activities. Here are some things I'm looking forward to!

Tomorrow Phil and I are hosting a pumpkin carving party at his house with some of the other couples we are friends with.  I haven't carved a pumpkin in many years so I am looking forward to it!  I'm making a couple of appetizers, an apple crisp, and this pumpkin ice cream.  I'm really excited to eat the roasted pumpkins seeds!

On Wednesday I have a video chat date with Allison.  We are long overdue for a chat so I can't wait to catch up.  Thank God for Google hangouts; video chats make me feel more connected to my far away friends.

On Friday we are going to a murder mystery party that another couple in our group of friends is hosting. I have never been to a murder mystery party so it will be fun to do something new!

On Saturday we are going to a Halloween party that Phil's coworker throws every year.  I am not a huge fan of Halloween as I suck at coming up with costume ideas but I am looking forward to this party as it's a fun group of people.

Are you doing anything this week to celebrate Halloween?  What kind of candy will you hand out on Halloween?  I'm hoping we get some trick-or-treaters at Phil's before we head to the murder mystery party as I love seeing kids in their costumes!

It's funny this is the second blog post in a row I've read about October being crazy- I guess it just universally is for everyone? We are all like QUICK fit in everything fun before winter comes, ha ha.
All the things you have coming up sound fun though- I wish I could taste that pumpkin soft serve you made! :)

I'm curious in your planner- do you write things on the month at a glance and on the week at a glance? I never know what to write on the month one because I always use the week one and would have to write it again. Just curious!

"we tend to hibernate in this part of the country when it gets cold" um yes same thing goes for Pittsburgh, and honestly I'm still getting used to it! But it's a good reason to be busy and social when the weather is still cooperating :)

October has been a beautiful month! We had one of the most beautiful leaf changing displays I have ever seen and I understand there is a scientific reason for it, but haven't read up on it myself. I loved Halloween when my kids were at home, but over the years we get very few trick & treaters which I really miss!

By the way, it sounds like you have a wonderful week of activities planned! This weekend while cleaning up the lawn, I was thinking about winter and that I could sit by the fireplace and read books instead of raking, which I am looking forward to now! But it can wait until after Thanksgiving!

A murder mystery party sounds really fun. You guys have awesome friends! D and I were talking about hosting a party next year but all of our friends have kids and don't get sitters so it would be challenging... (not that I don't like kids, of course).

We have all kinds of candy: milky way, snickers, 3 musketeers, kit kats, peanut butter cups and I also have fruit snacks in case anyone is allergic to chocolate and/or nuts! Our plan is to hang out at home with a funny Halloween movie and hand out candy. We are pretty fun people, let me tell you =) I'm hoping a few of our friends stop by with their toddlers dressed up!

Thank you so much for showing me everything! I love your city! I know it has been such a crazy month! I know your guests are in for a food treat in addition to the pumpkin carving fun! I am looking forward to hearing about the rest of these events! I hope you have a great Monday!

You are one busy lady! I feel like my schedule keeps filling up quickly for the rest of the year, which is good and bad. I need a weekend to pain the nursery as that's a major on my to do list :)

Sounds like you have a great week lined up. Though, I hear ya and feel ya on the October madness. Very happy this month is quickly coming to a close.

Reminds me a poster we have hanging in the kitchen at work ... it says, "You can sleep when you're dead!" ha. Sigh.

Gavin gets to dress up for a Halloween parade at his school on Friday. They are also having a pumpkin painting/carving contest (every kid gets to bring in a decorated pumpkin). We'll go trick or treating with friends in our neighborhood that evening. Though, truth be told, I'm all sugared out after Gavin's birthday weekend - holy moly! =)

No doubt, October has flown by. It's been so insane, I haven't been able to run nearly as much as I wanted to. Have fun at all of those couples parties!

You have had such a busy month and it looks like October is going out with a bang!! Wow!!

Sounds like so much fun! I've always wanted to do murder mystery dinner. I don't know how it works, but it sounds fun!

We have no Halloween plans since Ryan goes on night shift again starting Friday. I'm goin to be honest and say that we made up some "white lies" to get out of the Halloween parties we were invited to. I hate costumes. Lol

Have fun this week! Can't wait to see your carving!!

Have you figured out what you'll be?

I still haven't put together my costume and I leave Thursday for NYC for Halloween. I feel you on the stress.

What a fun week you have planned! I'm just excited to get trick-or-treaters for the first time ever this year. We never got them in the apartment but I can't wait to see the kids all dressed up on Friday. (Although I suppose that means I should buy some candy...)

That sounds like a really busy October and you're indeed finishing it is with a bang! Good for you! J loves Halloween but we don't have a party to go to so we probably hang around the house, wait for trick or treaters (if we're lucky) and watch some (semi-) scary movies :)

Pumpkin carving party!!?? Fun!!! We are handing out candy and ordering Pizza Hut (as is tradition). We plan to hand out mini chocolate bars and Cheezies, and maybe suckers or some kind of little candy too. We have a friend's Halloween party to attend after the trick-or-treaters are done :-)

I have had a busy month as well but for me it's been mostly work related, which still equals a lot of fun things so I can't complain too much! I am looking forward to a bit more quiet in November. Work is still looking pretty busy but I have a few less weekend work commitments so that's good.

We are handing out candy to kids on Halloween, which I always really enjoy doing. I would like to go to a Halloween party as I really enjoy halloween parties, but haven't been to one in a few years. Maybe one day when we have more space we will start hosting them :)

Hope you're having fun carving pumpkins tonight!

It sounds like all the busy is fun stuff -- so that's good. I love decorating for Halloween but the big-time costume parties may be a thing of the past! I used to enjoy them; now it seems like more hassle than it's worth when you could just have a good old regular party! But the pumpkin carving is an entirely different matter -- that sounds such fun!

We never know how many goblins we'll have at the door on Halloween. Sometimes lots, sometimes not so much. We have some Baby Ruth and Butterfinger bars left over from when I had to take Halloween candy somewhere -- I bought a big bag to last but Rick loves Baby Ruth and I love Butterfingers and so we may need to supplement!

Your month sounds busy but fun! I keep planning on having a down weekend but then somehow something always comes up and my weekends end up busy. October was (is) especially busy, with races and weekends away every weekend. I wish I could say November would be slower, but I doubt it will. I already have started filling in blank spaces...

I am going to Arizona this weekend, so will be on a plane on Halloween. However, the reason I am going is to pace a friend at a 100 miler, and we will be dressed up for the race! It should be a fun time, all weekend long Halloween party!

We used leftover candy from two parades earlier this fall for trick or treat candy because we assumed we'd have none. We were correct haha. We took Isla trick or treating and she had a blast! It was a lot of fun this year even though it was freeeezing. Much like all of the Halloween's of my childhood.
