Weekend Review

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Mine went by too fast, but they always do.  It definitely feels like there are fewer minutes in an hour on the weekend than during the week!  Here's what kept me busy this weekend.

On Friday night I went to a happy hour and saw a bunch of people that I worked with at my first job out of college.  It was fun to catch up with everyone and hear where they are these days.  After that happy hour I went to Phil's and we headed to his friend's house.  They have a monthly cocktail hour that we try to get to as it's good way to see some of Phil's high school friends.  The host's hobby is mixology so he always has fun drinks to try; this month he had some hot drinks so I had buttered rum in apple cider - it was so good.  I described it to Phil as a warm blanket of deliciousness.

On Saturday morning I puttered around my condo and got through some of my to do list. Then my friend Courtney picked me up and we headed out for some cross country skiing!

I recently bought XC skis as I felt like I needed a winter activity to help me dislike winter a bit less.  I hadn't been XC skiing for over 10 years and it was harder than I remembered.  I fell A LOT but had a really good time.  We went to Theodore Wirth Park which is less than 5 miles from my condo!  The trail conditions were pretty good but we definitely need more snow!  I'm looking forward to checking out the other parks in the twin cities area.

On Saturday night we met up with Phil's college friend to celebrate a friend's birthday.  We went to a bowling alley but Phil and I did not end up bowling as by the time we got a lane it was 10:30 and I was yawning like crazy (I'm the worst at staying up past 10).  It was fun to see everyone, though!

Sunday was blissfully uneventful.  I went to an awesome yoga class, got caught up on Top Chef and Parenthood, chatted on the phone with Mandy, and read quite a bit.

In the late afternoon I chopped up a bunch of veggies,

And used those veggies to make a big pot of vegetable beef soup.

I finished the book I had been reading for a postal book club and started a new book on my kindle.  Yep, I have converted from the Nook to the Kindle.  There were several reasons why I made the change but the biggest two are that it's easier to borrow books from the library on the Kindle and the prices of books seem to be lower.  I haven't used my Kindle much as I'm trying to get through all of the books on my Nook first but a library book became available so I opted to read it on my Kindle.

I capped off the night with a video chat with Nora

All in all, it was the perfect weekend as I had the right mix of social time, active time and down time.  Finding that balance is tough but I am learning that unplanned Sundays tend to help as it's nice to end the weekend with a quiet day spent at home!

How was your weekend?

No wonder you were yawning Saturday night! You did so much! And I'm impressed that you weren't super sore Sunday from all your skiing adventures/falls!

My weekend was delightful! Got some much needed errands done with our cars (as in, yes I finally got my tired patched after saying for weeks I was going to do it), celebrated a friend's birthday Saturday night, and yesterday went to another friend's place and made so many freezer meals! (More than 42!) I was definitely exhausted, but I also slept really well! Ha!

That sounds like the perfect mix of relaxing, reading, activity and socializing! I actually got some reading done this weekend too... I finally did NOT over schedule myself, so I got my errands done each day, got a nice run in, went for brunch and still had a chance to read a bit!

I have had a Kindle for a while and I really love it. I didn't realize the difficulty of getting library books, but now that you mention it, all of the books at our library are either Kindle OR you have to read them on your phone! Glad you made the switch and if you ever need some books, I can send over a few (although I know you have a shelf of books that you have not read yet!)

I miss cross country skiing! I haven't done in years - decades, actually - and I'm sure it would be far harder now than it was as a kid with tons of energy.

I have always been intrigued by cross country skiing but I've never tried it. Sure sounds like a good workout though!

I upgraded from my old Nook to a newer one and it made everything so much easier! It's amazing how even though my old one worked, there were updates to apps and things (like OverDrive!) that I couldn't get on my old one. I have a Kindle App that I use sometimes, too. I can't commit to just one, I guess :)

Was so great to see you last night. Can't wait until our next chat!

Sounds like you had a great weekend! I haven't been cross country skiing in a couple of years. It can definitely be fun, but hard work!

I love unplanned Sundays. I had a busy weekend getting ready for a baby shower I'm throwing with my mom this coming weekend, but I'm looking forward to low key Sundays over the next few weeks. The soup you made looks so good!

Your weekend sounds delightful - especially the low-key Sunday! I really try to leave my Sundays unplanned and low-key, gives me the down time I need to prepare for the upcoming week.

Wow! You do more in one weekend than I do in three! Ha! I want to do more on weekends, but I guess I have to get up earlier for that ;-)

Those cocktail hours sound great! Good to hear that you had the perfect weekend!

I officially have no right to complain about the cold. Sounds like such a fun weekend - particularly the Sunday of R&R. Xx

That is an awesome weekend! I love weekends like that. I didn't really have any social time this weekend, but I didn't really mind because I had SO MUCH in December it's felt nice to have a break from it. I did chat on the phone with my friend for about an hour on Saturday night which was great. I think low key Sundays are the way to go, they help me feel so much more prepared for the week!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the weekend so much! I agree a quiet Sunday helps me mentally prepare for the week ahead. I love my kindle but it's now 4 years old and I have a feeling I will have to upgrade soon, although it still seems to work great!

As you know, I'm the same way about social plans past 10 ha ha. I'm struggling with the fun/productivity balance in weekends lately. But part of it is I've been sick like a billion times this winter. I usually have a good immune system so I'm blaming it on my lack of rest time at the moment.

Sounds like a perfect weekend with a little bit of Lisa time, too! Terrific!(Rick went skiing and said he needed more snow, too. I say 'bring on the January thaw!')

Sounds like you had a busy weekend! But with some R&R, which is always a good end to the weekend/start to a new week! I would love to go cross country skiing again soon. It's been years, but it's such a great workout and a lot of fun!
What are you reading right now? I'm looking for a new book!

Getting out for some XC skiing is very adventurous! We haven't seen snow in NC yet, but it is supposed to ice over some tonight.

I haven't been skiing since college and definitely miss it! Although I've always gone downhill skiing instead of cross-country though. I'm trying to convince the boy we need to go skiing together, but he isn't really a fan of cold weather, so who knows when that may happen!

Ah, that sounds like the perfect weekend! Packed, but good and including some down time too. I'm looking forward to heading to the snow this weekend (family trip to Bend)!

Sounds like an amazing weekend!! I'm a little jealous that you get to x-country ski! Maybe some day we will live somewhere that is possible ;) In the meantime, I'll bask in our ability to hike year round.

I, too, have a very difficult time staying up past 10 pm. But we have good excuse - we are early risers!!

We both made beef stew last Sunday!! It was so nice to have left overs pre-packaged!

What a lovely weekend. You know I've never seen real snow? The kind of snow you can ski in! I've only seen 2-4 inches that melt within the day in Texas.

Great post! I am so behind in reading posts as my mind has been on payroll taxes and the like since the New Year so I'm quick playing catch up! Love those skis and hope you get more snow so you can use them! If we're going to have winter, we should have snow! It's not very pretty without it!
