Ten Days of Thanksgiving

Yep, it's a double post kind of day! I have a special series that I am kicking off today so you get to hear from me twice!

It's hard to believe it, but Thanksgiving is just 10 days away - where has the time gone. It doesn't seem like long ago that we were bringing in the New Year, and now we are preparing to close out 2009.

Life is busy. We work. We play. We spend time with family. We celebrate with friends. It's easy for the days to fly by sort of unnoticed and unappreciated.

But then Thanksgiving comes along and for that one day, we are kind of look around and remember what we are thankful for (in theory). We spend so much time focusing on what we don't have - I love that Thanksgiving comes along and sort of stops us in our tracks and makes us think about what we truly appreciate in life.

But one day just isn't enough. Last year I prepared for the coming of Thanksgiving by posting about what I was thankful for during those 10 days leading up to Thanksgiving and I would like to do that again this year!

So to start things off, I am going to talk about something very simple that I am thankful for.

My Starbucks Latte. Oh how I love you. When I take the first sip of my latte each morning, it fills me with joy - no kidding. That first sip is amazing, as are all of the successive sips. It's such a comforting drink for me. And I love it even more now that the barrista greets me by name! Yesterday morning I was kind of grumpy since it was Monday, but I walked into my Starbucks and was greeted with an enthusiastic "Good Morning, Lisa!" by Jacob, my favorite barrista. Before you get any ideas - no, I am not interested in him. I am pretty sure he is a college kid. But I love the guy! He's so cheerful - even at 7 am - and appears to genuinely happy to see me. And that starts my day off on the right foot.

I wonder if he knows how much I appreciate him? I feel like I would come off as creepy if I told the kid that he makes my morning when he smiles and greets me by name. Cripes - to him, I probably fall under the 'cougar' category (I hate that stereotype/nickname, by the way). Anyways, so unless I can find a non-creepy way to thank him, I'll probably just continue to smile at him and ask him how his day is going and hopefully he'll get that he's making my day.

It just kind of goes to show that the simplest things mean the world to people sometimes!

(*PS - I promise you I do not work for nor am I affiliated with Starbucks!)

Now I challenge you to play along. Can you come up with just one thing each day that you are thankful for and leave it in my comments?

Aww I love this series! I wish I'd done this leading up to the Canadian thanksgiving.

Something that I'm thankful for every morning is definitely my warm cup of coffee. It's usually made at home or else at work, unfortunately not Starbucks every morning, but it definitely picks up my day.

The perfect morning for me is a steamy mug of coffee and reading blogs!

Um, I'm totally stealing this idea for my blog - with a big shout out to you of course! Stay tuned!

Um, I was distracted when I was posting that last comment and I can't believe I actually wrote "stay tuned." That was totally lame. And weird.

Becky's comment(s) have me giggling out loud. Been there and done that!

Love the challenge, I've been trying to do something similiar on my Facebook status every day. I am thankful for coffee, too. Back when my husband and I were dating, he would stop by my home on his way to work and we'd have coffee together before our busy days. It took a lot of effort for us both to get up so early, but it was so worth it. After we got married, the tradition carried on to where he brings me coffee in bed (almost) every morning. (I'm blushing now, this sounds so corny! And I sound so spoiled!) Anyway, I am so thankful for my morning, bedside coffee because it's one of a million ways Chris tells me "I love you".

Regarding you being a "cougar", that made me laugh out loud! Having worked through college in the service industry, I KNOW I would have loved to have heard that I made someone's day, and I wouldn't have thought it was a "come on". Better yet, his manager might like to hear it...they hear more often complaints about lousy employee behavior. It might even help Jacob when performance review time comes around!

Love this series! I'm thankful that in 2 1/2 hours I will be at home wearing pants that aren't literally splitting down the seams because I made a bad judgment call on which pants to wear this morning.

A terrible, terrible judgment call.

You are not a cougar its Puma category for ladies under 40!

I was thinking of doing a similar thing on my blog as well.

I am thankful for having one of a kind friends in life. Pretty sure the friendship that is between you, me and B is one of a kind.

I love this idea! Looking forward to the next 10 days!

The biggest thing that consumes my mind in the world of "thanks" right now is my health.

In fact, I can't stop thinking about how thankful I am for it.

Right now I am in my ped's unit. In the past week I have be introduced to kids all under the age of 10 who:
-have lived in a hospital since birth
-will probably never be able to walk
-have been physically abused and neglected
and the list goes on...

It makes me feel guilty that I have complained about bad allergies, or having a cold, or having a bad hair day!

I love this idea! What a perfect time for it too.

I'm thankful for wonderful emails from friends such as yourself. And the people I've met through my blog in general. Bloggers are amazing.

How you feel with your starbucks = how I feel with my starbucks!! Seriously! I just get so happy :)

I'm thankful for oat bags (that you heat up in the microwave) because my back is killing me and it's really helping!
