Highlights & Happenings

Good Morning! It's February! Can you believe it? I am excited, though. That means we are one month closer to putting winter behind us. Plus, my birthday & Valentine's Day are just around the corner! Even though I am pretty much always single on V-Day, I still really like this holiday. More on that later this month! For now, I have some highlights & happenings to share from my weekend getaway!

  • I got a flat tire on Friday night. I do not know how to change a tire but luckily it happened just miles from my cousin Julie's house, where I was spending the night. So her husband, aka my night in shining armor, showed up and changed it for me. I was able to get a replacement used tired for $30 (v. $140 for a new one). Score one for Lisa. But I seriously need to learn to change a tire. I can only use this 'damsel in distress' thing for so long...
  • After her husband came to my rescue, we went back to their house where we got properly caught up! We are only 11 months apart and have always been super close - she actually feels like more of a sister than a cousin. She's 32 weeks along so will have a baby soon and I just can't wait to be an 'auntie' again. I think it's a girl!
  • I saw 2 awesome road-side billboards. One said, "Be Polite." The other said, "Be Grateful." I love North Dakota! In what other state would you see such a thing?
  • After spending about 24 hours in Grand Forks, I am wondering how I went to college there for 4 years. It was -25 with the windchill. That is freakishly cold. Like at least 10 degrees colder than Minneapolis.
  • Discussions were had about planning a girls trip to Mexico to celebrate our upcoming 30th birthdays this fall!
  • I hope said trip happens, but there is a really good chance that some of my girlfriends might be pregnant this fall - which would also be very exciting!
  • I had an absolute blast catching up with my college friends. There were 12 of us staying together, including husbands! We don't all get together very often so these weekend get togethers are priceless - and I know they will be even harder to coordinate once people start having kids!
  • I got to see my parents on Sunday - we went to Mass and then out for lunch to celebrate my birthday. They got me an awesome new coffee pot (much needed!) and an awesome pink coffee mug that says, "I'll have a cafe mocha vodka, Valium latte to go please.' So perfect for a high-strung coffee addict like me!!

What what the highlight of your weekend?

Valium! Haha; I had to laugh when I read that-- while I worked in crisis, I had a client who was an itty bitty peanut of a girl. And she couldn't walk far, so we would use her "stroller". I remember walking up and down the streets of the small town where the crisis home is at, cringing because people couldn't help but stare at us as she screamed, "Valium! Gimme valium! Valium!!"

Haha; thus, my constant laughter whenever the name comes up!

I am so glad that you had a great weekend. Get togethers with friends like that are so, so important.

The highlight of my weekend was sleeping in and a phone call that I am hoping leads to a fun new adventure. =)

I love the idea of a friend trip- that would be so much fun!

I hope you were thoroughly warm for the rest of the weekend, you and I have been having the same weather and it's hard to get out of the house in the morning. Mexico is definitely in order!

That's an awesome present indeed =)

I have NO idea how you survived -25 temperatures. I'm pretty sure I would have stayed inside all weekend long with hot chocolate glued to my hand.

Sounds like you an incredible weekend!! Very very fun! That is so great that you and your college friends have stayed in touch!!

I love the coffee cup mom and dad got you. That is awesome!! I'm also happy to hear you got a new coffee pot! I believe last week you mentioned something about that in one of your posts!

It sounds like you had an awesome weekend minus the flat tire. The best part of my weekend was just curling up on the couch reading.

I'm glad you had a great weekend!! A trip to Mexico sounds amazing - we were 'window shopping' vacation spots for our honeymoon last night and Cancun looks amazingly reasonable and beautiful!

What date is your birthday? I'd love to send you a little card :)

I think it's a boy!! But either way, I'm excited to me an auntie again too! :)
Oh and I love those billboards too, I pass them all the time on my way to and from work and they always make me smile!
Have a great week!

Sounds like you had an awesome weekend! Ugh, and I hear you on the tire thing.

I had a great weekend too - lots of reading, watching Netflix, hot chocolate, enjoying the snow, and I even managed to squeeze in a haircut!

Sounds like you had a great weekend...minus the cold weather and the flat tire!

I had a very relaxing weekend, which was just what I wanted :)

Sounds like a nice weekend! And, glad you were so close to help with the flat tire..I honestly don't know what I would do in that situation either. Panic, probably! We should both learn how to change one!

Awww your weekend sounds SO LOVELY! That's so great you were able to have a big get-together with all your college girlfriends. I love things like that.

My weekend was SO BORING. I napped twice (I never nap) and I ran. I DID however find a new place to live (yay!) and I went for a really good 11-mile run yesterday!

I love those weekend get togethers with college buddies. I end up getting together with my old fraternity brothers about once a year, but now I live near several of them.

they are always fun. but now we alwyas seem to get together when someone has a baby or gets married. otherwise we leave the spouses at home and just head to the beach. it's a blast.

Pregnant women can enjoy beach trips, too! =)

The highlight to my weekend was getting together with friends whom we're vacationing with in March. It's always fun to discuss 85 and sunny when it's 25 and cloudy outside.

It sounds like you had awesome fun(also, damsel in distress it up I say)! I found out that my boss is preggers again, so there will soon be a wee baby for me to help look after!

That sounds like such an awesome weekend! I totally do not know how to change a tire either, and I know I should learn but even if I did I feel like I wouldn't feel all that comfortable just up and changing a tire on the side of the road and I'd probably forget something and it would just be bad. Triple A will come for that right? haha

It's so crazy how many people around you are having babies. For me thats what weddings are like right now, so in a couple of years...ahh!

Ha, the bill boards are hilarious. Nick got signs from his girlfriend for Christmas with various sayings, such as "Settle down". Somehow I think those might INCREASE his potential for road rage! What email do you check? I tried to email you at lisa.dotzenrod, is that the right one?

Your weekend sounds GREAT! Although, I agree... that IS freakishly cold! I love the winter for a couple months but after that I am so over it. (like now).
Glad you had a great weekend and happy February! Can't believe it!

We have billboards in Salt Lake City that say "Be Grateful" and "Be Polite!" I thought it was isolated to here too. :)

Sorry about your flat tire.

I can't believe it's February either! January just disappeared.

If you decide to try Wei East let me know! I have a few product recommendations depending on the type of skin trouble you've been having.

So fun!!! Must've been great to go back there and catch up with everyone :)

Hope you get to take that trip to Mexico. You would TOTALLY deserve some time off and R&R!

Instead of learning how to change a flat tire, you could be like me and just pay for triple A. Then you can always cell them to change your tire, and to get your keys out of a locked car, and all other types of good things.
