Motivation Monday - Week 2

Happy Monday, everyone! Did you have a great Halloween? The day came and went like any other day of the year for me. I am just not a Halloween person to be quite honest... If I actually got trick-or-treaters, I'd enjoy it. But I don't since I live in a condo building with a bunch of retired peeps.

Anywho. Last week was not my best week, work-out wise. I am not doing such a great job of having a social life + exercising. Things aren't going to slow down this week or anytime soon since the holidays are fast approaching, so I need to work on fitting work outs in.

This summer it was so much easier to fit in work out since I could get up and run at 5 before going to work. That's not such a great option for me anymore because a) it's way way way dark now at 5 am, b) soon there will be snow on the ground and I just can't do snow + dark weather.

I could go to the gym before work, but that would mean getting ready at the ghetto YMCA I belong to. Oddly, it is located in one of the wealthiest suburbs but that doesn't seem to matter. Yes, I could change gyms, but the other gym close to my house is so busy, I couldn't get a parking spot when I went to check it out. So I will take the ghetto Y over a really nice but ridiculously busy gym.

So for now, I am trying to say yes to only one social obligation during the week. We'll see how that goes.

How do you fit your work outs in? Do you work out before or after work?

Last week's high: Running outside in beautiful fall weather on Sunday morning.

Last week's low: Only running twice... Hence the reason for the 'how am I going to fit my work out in' post...

My biggest struggle is this balancing act as well - work, social, time with Ben, working out, reading, etc. Not enough time in the day!

My high & low: Coming off a GREAT weekend and having another one to look forward to. Knowing I have to travel again this weekend and how that will make me exahusted. However, this weekend the hubby's coming with me (i.e. he can drive!) and the trip will take about half the time one way so hoepfully it won't be quite as exhausting!

It's SO hard to fit workouts in when you're busy!! This week I have to work tonight and tomorrow night, I have to be at the full time job at 7 instead of 7:30 and Wednesday night I have the dentist appointment. Then I'm going out of town so trying to fit 1/2 training in with this week just doesn't seem possible.

I totally get it! Fitting in workouts is really difficult...and I would imagine that after you've just completed a major accomplishment (i.e your marathon) getting motivated may actually be a little bit more difficult. I'm really lucky because one of my closest friends here is also a runner, so we can run together and get a two for one - our run and hanging out. Honestly, I guess it's just a matter of not stretching yourself too thin (way easier said than done, I know!)

I work out after work. My trick: even if I have social plans either before I go out or after I get home the first thing I do is put on my workout clothes. At the very least I'll do the 30 Day Shre or go for a walk around the block twice as I convince myself that anything is better than nothing. I'm definitely not a morning workout person at all no matter how hard I try.

Right now I'm sitting here when I should be at the gym! My gym is fairly close to my work but far from my house. It's tough for me to make time to work out AND make the drive.

That stinks you can't go to the gym that is closer. Maybe that one isn't as busy at 5am? In the winter it really is a day to day thing with working out in the morning because sometimes we get snow and ice and that means no outside running for me. I do enjoy the quiet snowy mornings though, it's so pretty! In the winter I try to run a few times a week outside in the afternoon/evening but sometimes work doesn't allow that. It really is a day to day thing!

These days I can't find time to fit in everything I want either. I spent the afternoon and part of the evening yesterday with my cousin at the hospital, all the nurses were dressed up (the theme in the PICU was Alice in Wonderland), it was fun for the kids to see the nurses and docs dressed up.

We talked about this on our trip but I am lucky to live in a small enough town that it's literally 5 mins for me to drive from home to the gym and another 2 mins to drive to work. So I can easily go to the gym in the morning and still have time to go home and get ready and go to work (though I usually do get ready AT the gym just because the gym is dead in the mornings and I have the changeroom to myself!

Another way I do it is scheduling in my workout time to my planner. So if someone wants to make plans with me I say sure as long as it's after ______ time because I already have plans during that time (my workout!)

I am finally feeling like I'm getting back into a routine with my workouts, hopefully you can find one soon too! :)

The days just keep getting shorter and shorter and after the time change this weekend, it will be dark when we leave work! I am looking forward to using my Wii workout again - mowing is done so have some evenings free once more! I envy people who can walk etc during the day!

Fitting in my workouts has been a big struggle for me for the past year- right now there is no time, and I'm just accepting that, but I know that soon I'm going to have a bit of a break and will be able to squeeze them in before work :)

I would love to fit my workout in before work, but I just love my mornings at home too much. Plus, I'd have to wake up around 5am. UGH.

I usually squeeze it in so that I workout right after work and can meet someone for a later dinner or arrive somewhere in workout clothes. Also, a lot of my friends are from the running group so we have similar lifestyles and mentalities...running/working out comes first. Good luck! I think in those times we just have to be thankful that we have friends who care enough to invite us and want to do things with us.

Good luck on saying no. THat is one of my weak areas!

Balancing it all is SO hard! I have problems with it, too so right now, I'm just shooting to be able to exercise 3-4 days a week. I want to be a 5-day-a-week exerciser but school is just too crazy for that right now!

I agree, it is hard to fit in exercise around everything else in life. I wish that it wouldn't start getting dark at 4pm soon because I have been enjoying my running after work.

I have been thinking about signing up at my local YMCA which is on my way home from work and has an indoor track. I will do anything to not run on the treadmill!

I'm also struggling to fit in the work outs these days so I have no advice, but I hope you figure it out :)

I wish I could get up in the morning to exercise. When I do manage to fit it in, I'm usually doing it in the evening. The shortened daylight hours are really messing with me now!
