Three Things Thursday

Happy Thursday!  It's an especially happy Thursday for me because I fly to Florida today!  My head is all over the place so I thought I'd close the week with a "three things Thursday" post.

1.  As I said, I fly to Florida today and am SO excited!  Plus I got upgraded to first class on this flight, which is always a nice bonus.  I am so overdue for a visit as I haven't been down to Venice in about 7 years.  I'm really looking forward to a weekend of family time, sunshine, warmer temps, and relaxation.  The first 2 months of the year were pretty stressful for me between work and job searching so I am looking forward to a mini vacation.  I'll be in Venice until Sunday afternoon and then I drive over to Orlando for a 3-day work conference so I will be in Florida for a full week.  The work conference part will be busy as I have conference sessions all day long followed by client dinners at night, but it will be nice to be out of the office.

2.  I am not sure if it's my stress level or the books I have been reading lately, but I am a hard time focusing when reading and as a result, I'm in a bit of a reading slump.  It's been awhile since I read a book that really grabbed me and was difficult to put down.  Hopefully the books I have downloaded on my Nook for this trip are more engaging than what I've read lately.

3.  I'm starting to get excited for my first race since my stress fracture/RA diagnosis.  It's less than 10 days away so is fast approaching.  It's just 4 miles so it short but it will be fun to be around the race atmosphere again.  So far my body has tolerated the return to running pretty well.  I have some pain in my toe joints but it's not too bad and it bothers me less now that I know it's not a potential fracture.

I won't be posting while I am in Florida, so the lights will be off on this space for about a week or so!

What is on your mind today?  Have you read any really good books lately that you would recommend?

I am having the same problem with reading at the moment and I was REALLY into it before so I definitely blame my recent book choices. I just sent you an e-mail about this ha ha. Unfortunately I think you've read all my good ones lately so I don't have any recommendations for you.

Enjoy your trip to FL and your first class flight!

So excited for your trip to Florida. I have been checking the weather in anticipation of our trip and, ummm, it's kind of my version of perfect. Highs in the high 70s, low 80s? Ummm, yes please!

Also, super excited for your upcoming race - it's almost like your "I'm going to triumph" winning lap. Fingers crossed you continue to feel good with running.

What's making me feel good is I've worked out five days in a row, including this morning at 5:30am before Gavin woke up (I'm so not a that-early-in-the-morning workout person, but I did it) and a double workout on Tuesday to make up for not working out on Saturday. If this week is any indication, I'm going to smack down this 31 workouts in 31 days thing!

I don't have any book suggestions for you, as I pretty much read books that you have already read! I'm reading the Orphan Train right now and hope it is as good as most people say. Have a great trip to sunny Florida and greet everyone for me!

Sometimes that happens to me with reading. I'm either too distracted or nothing can hold my attention because it's just not very good. Luckily it usually goes away with a good pageturner. I hope you have some good reads on your Nook for your flight and your time in Florida!

I wish I had books to suggest but my reading lately is at an all time low. :(

I was listen to Morning Edition on NPR, and they were reviewing a book about Paris. It made me think of you. How Paris Became Paris. Have you read it? It's written by a historian and describes the transition to modern day Paris from a war torn city. Anyway, greet the McDougall Clan for me. Enjoy the sun.

I am so excited for your trip to Florida! That sounds so fun. Love our Florida family!!

I'm sure your mind just has too much to really take in quality reading time. You've had ALOT on your plate!

I am so excited for your first race since your RA dx. I am sure it will be inspiring for you!!

One of the last amazing books I read was Somewhere in France, which you're already reading, so hopefully it does pull you out of your reading slump. But I also read Three Souls by Janie Chang, that I also really enjoyed. It's a pre-WWII book set in China, and while I know it's normally your normal type, I do think you'd enjoy it as well! Wishing you have safe travels!

I'm having the reading problem too. I highly recommend The Almond Tree. I've heard awesome things about Code Name Verity and I bought it but I haven't started it yet. Have fun in Florida! I am so jealous. I will be there in 25 days!

YAY FLORIDA! So excited you're in my state. I hope it's treating you well! :)

Let's see... I would really recommend The Husband's Secret. I thought it was really well-written and engaging. I think you would like it!

Florida sounds like a dream to me right about now ... I am SO SO SO over winter! On my mind - I cannot wait for this weekend to get started :-) It's going to be a good one!

I hope you are having fun in Florida! It's perfect weather over there; my parents just got back from Naples.

As for books, I am having the same problem, mostly because I am trying to read some non-fiction and it really drags down my average, as it takes me a LOT longer to read than a quick beach read. I would suggest Somebody Knows My Name. I am also reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn right now and so far, it is pretty good.

I can't wait to hear about your trip! Enjoy the beach!

Ya know, I'm having SO MUCH trouble with reading lately too and I think it's because my mind has been so busy with all the stuff with my dad. I find it way easier to zone out watching TV, which I've been doing a lot more of. I also think I need to pick up a really good pageturner book again soon.

So glad you got a mini vacation last week! Much deserved after the stressful start to 2014 for you!

If I'm stressed it hugely affects my ability to read. Hope you are enjoying Florida! Xxx
