2015: Half-time Check-in

I know I will sound like a broken record when I say this, but I can not believe that 2015 is over half over!  Time is a-flying!  With the half-way point of the year behind us, I thought it would be a good time to check back on my 2015 goals and see how I am progressing.  So here goes!

1.  Work on resolving my sleep issues.  Status:  In progress.  For this goal, I wanted to get off Ambien, look into having a sleep study done, and implement some cognitive behavior therapy techniques to improve my sleep.  I've been off Ambien for a week now so have kind of achieved one of the goals, although I'm relying on Melatonin now.  But it's natural so it's a lesser evil, right?  I knew I would be changing insurance companies so I haven't looked into a sleep study yet, but I might if sleep continues to be a struggle.

2.  Tackle a list of purging/organizational projects.  Status:  Completed. I made the most of the cold weather months and got through all of the organizational projects on my list!  Knowing that I would be moving motivated me to get some of those organizational projects done.

3.  Complete the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge.  Status:  In progress.  So far I've completed 21 of the 24 categories so am really close to completing the challenge!  It's been really fun!

4.  Read 12 books that I own.  Status:  In Progress.  I have read 7 books that I own so am making good progress towards this reading goal, too.

5.  Employ a "Buy One Give One Away" approach to all book, clothing, and kitchen gadget purchases.  Status:  In progress.  I've done more 'giving away' than purchasing so far this year so am on track for this goal as well.  It hasn't exactly been a 'matched' approach as I tend to get rid of a lot of clothes or books all at once and then slowly purchase new clothing.  I have barely bought any books this year - I can only think of two that I have bought and I gave away about 60!

6.  Complete a sprint tri.  Status:  In progress.  The triathlon is just a month away and I feel fairly ready to tackle it.  Since marathon training is my primary goal, I haven't strictly followed a training plan for the triathlon but I've done enough to get me ready for race day.

So there you have it:  6 goals, 1 completed, 5 in progress.  The only goal I can see myself not achieving this year is resolving my sleep issues but at a minimum I am glad that I am off of Ambien now.

Did you set any goals for 2015?

Congratulations Lisa. You are clearly a dedicated and driven person, which I think helps. I didnt set goals this year. I might do it now as between campaigning and starting a new job, and now doing the new job, I am not really on top of things. This has given me a bit of a kick up the bum.

I didn't have any "formal" goals for 2015, but I definitely wanted to give a good effort towards trying for a marathon. So far, I think I'm doing pretty good. I'm keeping up with a (long) training plan and staying healthy with cross-training. Best of luck on the upcoming triathlon! It's a lot of work, but I know you can do it! :)

Congrats on all the progress you've made toward your goals! I hope your sleep starts to improve being off Ambien. I think choosing melatonin over Ambien is a huge step in the right direction!

You're making some really great progress on your goals this year! My sister swears by Melatonin. Actually, I think she and my brother both use it. I haven't really thought about my goals for this year at all but I have a feeling I'm probably not doing well with most of them. Wouldn't hurt to check in with myself and get back on track for the remainder of the year. I agree that this year is FLYING by! They go faster every year!

Those are all awesome!!! I'm getting rid of lots of stuff, but it goes in spurts, I'll donate three bags, then wait a while, then grab another 3 bags worth.

Great job with your goals so far! Sleep issues really are the worst! But melatonin over Ambien sounds like a big step in the right direction towards your goal

You're doing great with your goals and you're nearly finished your reading goals already! I set myself a low reading goal as I haven't read much in recent years and I was pleased to have accomplished that already - I might need to set it higher next year :) I haven't been too good with my crafting goals though but there's still time :D

You have done a great job working on your goals! I think the fact that 5 are in progress (and a couple of them are nearly done) is amazing, especially since we are only at the halfway mark!! I didn't make a "list" this year, but buying a house was one of the big ones in my mind, so I am pretty happy with that. The other one was running a hundred miler, which I haven't accomplished yet, but there is still time!!

I think you're doing awesome with your goals this year! I've been purging things as I happen upon a drawer that needs to be cleaned or a pile of stuff we don't use and it's just the best feeling. I've donated quite a bit, sold some and tossed a lot of stuff as well. Can't wait to hear about how the tri goes; considering the three sports in that race are not my fortes, I'm in awe of those who do them!

I'm impressed you're tackling the tri! That's awesome!!! Good job on accomplishing so much already this year!!! Considering how busy I know you are it's impressive you are so on track!!!

You've done really well with your goals so far this year. That's wonderful that you've been giving away more than you've been accumulating. I love the feeling of getting rid of a bunch of stuff, and have really avoided buying "stuff" in the past few years.

You are totally rocking your goals this year and will have no problem completing them! I didn't really set goals for 2015 but at the beginning of the year was when I was toying with the idea of becoming a fitness instructor and I have completed that goal and I'm so happy I did! I am behind on the Read Harder challenge but hoping to catch up this fall. I just haven't been reading much this summer!

Love your progress! You inspire me with your goal driven approach to life.

I typically have 13-16 resolutions a year but in 2014 I only had 5 and this year I only have 2. My goal this year is to read 50 books as I do every year and pay down 5,500 of my student debt (which may not happen if I don't find a job soon!).

You are amazing. I am envious of your "organization" goal. I really need to get on that..... My "problem" (1st world problem) - is we have too much house, so the spare bedrooms upstairs that we never use, tend to become "collecting" rooms for clothes I don't wear, old books, etc...

I hope you can find a solution to your sleeping woes. That is awful!

If it makes you feel better. I didn't follow a training plan for my first sprint tri. I learned how to clip in 1 week prior to the race. There were moments on my bike where I wanted to cry. Not because of the exertion, but because of the fact I thought I was going to fall. And I still came out enjoying it! :)
