Weekend Highs and Lows

I hope everyone had a nice Mother’s Day weekend! We had a pretty good weekend, all in all.

Highs:

- Phil got me some hanging baskets for our front porch for Mother’s Day. I neglected to get any last summer and felt like our house looked kind of sad so I am glad we will have baskets this year. He got pink petunias. We get a TON of sun so need something that can tolerate the heat and apparently petunias can!

- The boys got haircuts on Saturday. Their hair grows crazy fast so I told them to cut it very short this time so we could go longer between haircuts. Phil thinks they look like they are going into the military but oh well! At least we can wait quite awhile before they need another trim!

- We had a nice morning at the zoo although my boys seem to think it’s a race to see who can get through the zoo the fastest.

Lows:

- One thing I took over for my retired coworker was pulling data for our fixed income weekly update. I’ve been doing it for 6 weeks and the website I use for part of the data pull has been down 2 different weekends! There is an alternate way to calc this data but it would be quite a project to figure it out and I have not had time for a project like this lately (it has to do with calculating excess returns, not that that means anything to any of you!). It doesn’t take a lot of time to pull this data, usually 30-45 minutes if nothing goes wrong, so it’s not the worst thing to have to do. But when it goes wrong, it hangs over me until it’s resolved.

- The weather wasn’t great. It rained most of the day on Saturday and then again Sunday morning. I wish it would rain during the week instead!

- It was sad to see our awesome neighbors home be packed up. I hope a really cool family moves in but no one could be as wonderful as the people who lived there. I credit my friend for getting me back to running after Will was born. I’ll miss having her just across the street but at least she’s only 20 minutes away.

What were the highs and lows of your weekend?

Petunias are such amazing flowers. They can withstand anything, it seems. Frost! Drought! Heat! Wind! I planted some wave ones myself this weekend which have a really interesting colour pattern.
Lows of the weekend: my son getting dental surgery. But highs: it's spring around here! Fingers crossed no more snow, although, who knows.

Such little cuties! We also had a really dreary weekend, meaning we were all cooped up. The boys played tennis at their club for a little bit, and we went to a movie. But still-- lots of inside time. Glad your weekend was pretty good :)

I love the high and tight haircuts! I am so glad that I have long hair and I do not have to go to the hairdresser very often; I am not sure I would really want to have to go every 6 weeks like some of my male friends do! That is too high maintenance!

I feel you re pulling that data. This is not exactly the same but when we transferred over, I kept getting requests to calculate total return for clients portfolios, but the firm does not have a pre-made report that does this and since we no longer had their prior information, so I had to recreate a system to be able to extrapolate the data and it was quite tedious! Also at first when I was new I did not have the right add in and so was doing a lot of stuff manually and that was really a drag. I have made it a bit more simple, but it still has some manual components and I am still tweaking it a little each time.

Flowers can make such a difference in the "character" of a house. I'm so low maintenance that we currently have nothing, but I know the house would look cheerier if I just bought some planters or hanging baskets.

Sorry about the frustrating data pulls and bad weather. And especially sad about your good friend moving. Change is HARD <3

What sweet haircuts. It always feels shocking to me when my little guy gets his hair cut (we let it grow out quite long)...I always feel a bit sad about it for a few days and then LOVE how he sweats less and it doens't get in his eyes. He's headed in for a hair cut tomorrow, actually.

Aw the kids look cute with their haircuts! They look like they're ready for summer.
Sorry to hear about the rainy weekend- that does make things tough. But, kuddos to Phil for the great Mother's Day present! Overall it sounds like a nice weekend. The high of my weekend was not having to cook dinner- my husband took over that chore for Mother's Day. The low was having to work on Saturday morning- but I'm used to that.

The boys do look way older when they get their hair cut, don't they? I mean, I'm not saying we should ship them off to boot camp just yet, but it's just around the corner!

Weekend high: I got to play fetch with a Great Dane and meet a 4.5 month old puppy!

Weekend low: My husband got glutened in a mysterious way and spent all day Sunday feeling very, very bad.

Your boys are so adorable! The short hair makes them look very grown up.

The work issue sounds so frustrating. Missing deadlines stresses me out, even if it's through no fault of my own and I can just imagine what you mean about the project hanging over you until it is complete. Here's hoping there is a longterm solution to whatever is causing the issue!

High for the weekend was getting to see my daughter perform -- she did so great, and has built up so much self confidence. Low was that we didn't get to do the local attraction that I'd been looking forward to. Oh well.

Happy (belated) Mother's Day, Lisa! Your great mom skills shine all the way through the screen. :)

Look like you had a nice weekend overall despite the kind of questionable weather... we had the same. But, at least it wasn't freezing. So I think we'll take it. Ha.

How nice to get some hanging baskets! I haven't purchased any flowers yet- I typically wait until right around Memorial Day, mostly because that's usually the first time I really have a chance to get out to the store in May! And also, usually weather is definitely warm by then. I plant a decent amount of flowers in my yard in the spring and I love it once they're in, but I probably make a bit too much of a production of it... lol.

So sad about your neighbors. You may recall, but we lost some great neighbors in 2020 who moved up north. We've semi-stayed in touch, but it's just not the same. The new people seemed promising at first (several boys, similar ages...) but, well, let's just say we don't see them much. They seem to be extreme homebodies or kids that don't play outside? Not sure. They are also homeschooled. The few times the boys did see them and tried to connect, it didn't seem to go anywhere. Boo.

That is exactly how we cut our son's hair-nice and short. This way we go longer between haircuts. The boys look super cute! On both sides of us, we have wonderful neighbors, I hope they never move away! They are such kind, generous people, with similar age kids #win

High: delicious New Jersey in May weather.
Low: friend's husband lost his battle with cancer.

I hate it when neighbors you love move. Sigh. Our guys got little buzz cuts for summer too. I don't like them but they do make sense at this time of year! I don't think I had any highs or lows this weekend. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing!

I’m so glad that overall it was a good Mother’s Day!!! I love Petunias!!! I used to help my Dad plant them each year for my Mom!

The boys are adorable with their hair cuts!!!

When work systems are wonky it’s AWFUL and hangs over you until fixed!!! I can identify!!!!

I’m so sorry your neighbor has moved!!! I know how far 20 minutes feels when she was always right there!!! Praying you like the new people too!!!

So happy to hear you had a nice Mother's Day :) you have two handsome little guys!

My last week was ok. Our kitchen tile saga continues (bordering on ridiculous), but I went to the garden center last weekend and picked out some flowers, so that lifted my mood :)

I'm glad you had a good Mother's Day weekend! The boys' haircuts look so cute. I don't blame you for getting them cut short so you're not getting them cut every few weeks!

I'm sorry to hear that your neighbor friend is moving away. :( There is something so convenient and lovely about having a good friend right next door. Crossing my fingers that a fun family moves in!

Yay for hanging baskets - my father's mother's day gift to my mother, every year. The gift that keeps on giving!
Also love the boys' haircuts but agree that the first day or two it's always disconcerting to see ANYONE with a dramatic change in hair length. Then we seem to get used to it. :)
Glad you had a good weekend, despite the weather. :)
