It's no secret that I am pining for fall these days. We got a little taste of it last week when the morning temps dipped into the 60s and the highs during the day were in the 70s. It was blissful! Being a seasoned Minnesotan, though, I know that we still have about a month of summer left, and likely some hot, humid temps ahead. Life is short, so it would be foolish for me to wish the last month of summer away, though.
To combat my urge to spring ahead to fall, I decided to come up with a short, accomplishable "Summer Fun List." Obviously I only have a month left of summer and I have a busy schedule, so I didn't want to choose too many things and stress myself out. So here is a short list of some things I'd like to do before the season shifts from summer to fall!
1. Try Paddle Boarding - There are lots of areas in the Twin Cities to go paddle boarding, and a couple of girls at work have expressed interest in doing this with me! Hopefully we can find a weekend that works for all of us!
2. Go Kayaking - I have done this one other time this summer, but would like to get out on the lakes one last time!
3. Read in a Park - There are lots of parks in my neighborhood with plenty of benches for reading. I think an outing like this warrants some macaroons as a reading snack!
4. Get Ice Cream and Walk around Lake Harriet - There is an amazing ice cream shop by one of my favorite lakes and I need to treat myself to some dairy one week and take a walk around the lake.
5. Pool Day - My condo has a pool but I usually avoid it as it sometimes feels like a frat party down there... But it tends to be quieter on Sundays, so I should take advantage of having access to a pool!
6. Enjoy My Final Weekend at the Lake - I will be heading to the lake tomorrow after run club. I will be gone Labor Day weekend, so this will be my final lake weekend. I want to soak it up and enjoy the time with my parents, siblings, and nephews! Once lake season is over, I tend to go months without seeing them!
That's it! Not too long, and definitely accomplishable!
Are there any activities you want to do before summer ends?

That is definitely a list you can accomplish! You know I have a summer fun list as well - there are a few I probably won't get done (pool day is one of them - I just don't care that much), but there are a lot I think I will get done and it's been a fun way to mark the summer!
Happy Friday!
I pretty much feel like my summer will end on Sunday morning when I leave NYC to return to Anchorage - as the temperatures are so much cooler and the fall semester starts very soon after I return. I want to join in your fun, though, so I'd like to enjoy one more sweaty run in Central Park and explore a little bit of Brooklyn.
I've been wanting to try paddle boarding!! I don't know where I would do it around here though.. apparently there are places where you can do yoga on a paddle board haha
Pool days are so necessary! Our summer has either been so hot or rather cool (like the last week has been) so it's been hard/odd to plan a good, quality pool day.
The rest of my weekends involve wedding appointments, family/friends in town and other wedding stuff, so I'm hoping that I can enjoy some nights on the deck, maybe a night at a Mexican restaurant on the patio and I'd like to get to the zoo and Forest Park for a picnic at least one more time, too!
Paddle boarding is supposed to be fantastic! My brother tried it for a while last weekend and said it was killer. I would love to give it a try.
I adore reading by the pool. Our pool always has a ton of kids in it, which is fine, but they can be sort of rowdy and rambunctious. I haven't been in awhile because of this cooler weather!
This summer I would still like to get in a tubing trip (but that doesn't look like it will happen because the river is so low) and I would like to get in a few more bike rides. I might be buying a bike today! Going to look at one listed on Craigslist this afternoon!
Awesome list!!! I really want to try stand-up paddleboarding and might sign Eric and I up for lessons on my birthday!
I think embracing summer is a great idea. I just love summer so much. Fall is wonderful too but it's a fleeting season here that usually only lasts for about 5 weeks and then it's into the cold, long, dark days of winter. BLEGH.
Our pool can be a frat party, too, except it's always old men and women who blast music, smoke, and drink. (Even though alcohol is prohibited...) I rarely go to my pool but I wish it was more quieter because I totally would. I love going to the pool and just soaking in the sunshine! Nothing like it. :)
The rest of my summer will involve cleaning out the apartment in preparation for our move and then preparing for my trip to Atlanta over Labor Day weekend!
These all sound really fun, Lisa. Especially, the ice cream. There is a local ice cream shop on campus that I always want to go to, but we don't live near campus. Someday soon... Have fun at the lake!!
One thing I loved about living in an apartment complex was having access to a pool. Yes, it would get crazy sometimes. But I would normally have my ipod and some magazines and just tune everyone else out.
That's a great list, and I love macaroons! I hope you go paddle boarding, because I think you will like it. Plus you have enough lakes to do it on! Check groupon and see if there are any good deals; that's how I finally decided to shell out the money for it!
This summer is pretty booked up. Next weekend is my grandma's birthday and the marathon; the weekend after that is baseball, which would be on my list anyway, and flea market shopping! The weekend after that is running! I guess if I have time I would love to go kayaking as well, but we can do that pretty much year round, so I am not in too much of a hurry.
I hope you are having a great time up at the lake this weekend!
I really want to take Isla to the zoo before summer is over!
The pond in my parents' beach town has a bunch of water activities you can rent: paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, bike-boarding (think surfboard with a bike on top, minus the wheels). I look forward to Gavin in a few years when we can enjoy those things as a family!
I want to go for a few bike rides and walks, and possibly a picnic before summer is over.
