Ten on Tuesdays

I'm back with another "Ten on Tuesdays" post!!

Sick of finding out random info about me? Then look away - these are a fun/mindless post for me! And you should all play along!

1. What are some of your family traditions?
My favorite tradition is our Christmas Eve tradition - it's just my parents, siblings, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and everyone's kids. I say just but that totals to 15 people. Yah, I have a big family. Every year my mom makes Oyster Stew - which truth be told, I don't like. But I like that she makes it because it wouldn't be Christmas without it. And strangely enough, both my parents ate this on Christmas Eve when they were growing up. I am very thankful for my in-laws for many reasons, but I am especially thankful for them on Christmas Eve because now my mom also makes other options besides Oyster Stew. My parents aren't the 'let's accommodate our meals to our children's beck and call'. I feel like that is pretty much considered child abuse these days but I am glad I was raised in this way because I am the least picky person! But - now that my mom is cooking for people besides her children, she is more accomodating to different tastes/preferences - so now in addition to Oyster Stew, we also have a Seafood feast which usually features shrimp & crab! And she makes lasagna, too, but that won't be an option for me now that I am living gluten free. But there is plenty of gluten free seafood goodness for me to enjoy! Yum!! (oysters are pretty much the only seafood I don't enjoy)

2. Do you know how to change a flat tire?
Um, no. I am not proud of this. But I guess that's why I have AAA?

3. Do you subscribe to any magazines? What are your favorites?
Yes, and I shouldn't because guess what - I haven't really read most of them for the last 3-4 months. I think I currently subscribe to Self, Women's Health, Glamour, and Runner's World. The only one I consistently read is Runner's World - and that's the only subscription I will renew. I do love to read smutty magazines like People & US Magazine when I am traveling, though!

4. What are your top three favorite office supply items? (If you don’t share the love of office supplies with me or if you are male, you may skip this question.)
Oh where do I start! I practically dream of bouquets of newly-sharpened pencils (if you aren't getting this reference, we need to stage an intervention)
1. Post-it notes
2. Bic Medium Blue Pens
3. The tape-style post-its that are great for marking up books!

5. Are you a good public speaker?
I think I am decent. My mom made us kids be in speech when we were in school, and I am glad we did. It took the fear of public speaking out of me. Then I did Toast Masters in college which I absolutely loved. I have been meaning to join the TM chapter at my new job but just haven't been able to find the time to consistently attend meetings.

6. How do you feel about acronyms?
I have a love/hate relationship with them. They are great when you know what they mean, but when you are new to a company they make you feel like a complete foreigner!!

7. What’s the most creative things you’ve ever done? (Bloggers, feel free to include pictures!)
I knit these little miniature sweaters last Christmas. They were sort of time consuming, but the people who received them loved them, so it made it all worth it - and they are pretty adorable!!

8. I’d rather jam a pen in my eye than…
Vote for Obama. Sorry Dems. I'm a republican. I hope we can still be friends.

9. What company has the best advertising?
I've have to say Apple. They also find the best music to play in the background of their ads!

10. When is your birthday?
It's February 6th. I'll turn 29. Yikes. It's going to be the end of an era. Or a decade. Or both.

Alright - play along! At least tell me when your Birthday is!

Cute sweaters! All I can knit are scarves...which pretty much take no talent :-)

Good answer on #8 and I also agree with Apple's commercials :)

Oh, I love these things. My favourite kind of office supplies are on ThinkGeek.com ( http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/supplies/ ) but I don't think I could get away with half of them :)

You've Got Mail reference! Love it!

I secretly wish I had a subscription to Rachel Ray's cooking magazine. While it annoys me she's on the cover every month, she has some great recipes and ideas.

These are good questions!

I am going to do this next week!

Oh, my birthday is 20th August, and my favourite office supply is a laminator.

Oyster soup- ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. I'm with you on that one. My dad made oyster soup once when I was a bratty kid; and I liked it. But then I also used to like sardines on saltine crackers back then, too. When I grew up, I realized that both of those "treats" are disgusting and really, I only liked having quality time with dear ol' dad!

Office suppies... don't get me started!

Nobama... hahaha!

Apple might have good ads, but I hate the elitist customers who think they are so much better because they have iStuff.

I don't know how to change a tire, either. I'm kind of ashamed of that fact.

Those sweaters are ADORABLE. I'm so jealous of your knitting talent, my grandma has tried to teach me how to knit many times but I just can't catch on!

I really like nike commercials. I wish their website didn't suck so much.

I keep meaning to do this, but keep forgetting. Maybe next week! Where do you find the questions??

LOVE family traditions! In our family, the children open 1 present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas morning. My husband and I were both raised that way, so it's an easy tradition to follow. Santa puts nuts & 1 orange & 1 apple to represent the bitter & the sweet things that will come throughout the year. It is also to remind us of how our grandparents struggled; my grandma got her only apple one time a year-as a Christmas present.

The craft item that I am proudest of, is miniature Christmas Trees that I made for our oldest kids (Erin & her husband, and Ryan & Abby) last year. Chris handmade storage boxes for them, so hopefully the kids will bring them out every year and feel our love.

I am ADDICTED to office supplies...I love all sorts of pens, bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils and different papers.

I DO know how to change a tire, and how to add oil to my car. (I'm surprised at how many women don't know how to do that.)

Can't remember all the rest on your list! But I do enjoy learning more about you. :)

I love Ten on Tuesdays! I cannot believe you made those sweaters! Adorable!!! Um, I suppose I can overlook your answer to #8 - because your awesome-ness does not exclude political views. :)

Hiya! I've been reading your blog on Google reader for aaaggees and decided that it's time I finally comment and tell you how much I enjoy reading.

I loved the You've Got Mail refrence, and well done on those sweaters - I love knitting, but I've only ever done baby hats and booties. Sweaters just stump me!

Oh and my birthday is 5 days after yours - on the 11th of February.
