Ten on Tuesday, a week late...

I've stopped doing these Ten on Tuesday posts, but last week's questions were thought up by Kyria, a blogger I love (and am hoping to do a 10 mile race with this fall here in Mpls!).  So I had to play along, belatedly!

1. When you are on a plane and the kid behind you is kicking your seat, what do you do?
I would probably give the parent(s) some time to reprimand the child.  If the child is still kicking, I would turn around and politely ask that he/she stop kicking my chair.  Hopefully that would work.  If it wouldn't, I would just ignore the situation because I am not very confrontational.  Luckily, I have never experienced this!

2. What food that you KNOW is bad for you and you shouldn’t have, but you love/eat it anyway?
French fries & potato chips.  I don't have them very often but I do indulge occasionally.

3. What is your favorite book of all time?
Tuesdays with Morrie.  Have you read it yet?  You should!

4. If I came to visit you in your town, where would we eat?
Tough question - I pick restaurants based on the preferences of my guests.  So if you like mexican, I'd take you to Barrio or Masa.  For a fabulous meal  at a restaurant owned by a 2011 James Beard award winning chef, I'd take you to 112 Eatery.  If we were going to brunch, I'd take you to Spoon River

5. You have 500 dollars and 40 minutes to spend it at any store you want. Where do you go?
Right now I would go to Ikea probably because I need furniture and other home goods.  Except I would want to give someone else the $500 to spend for me because I despise going to that store.

6. What blog do you read every day/the most often?
Quite a few, actually.  Or I try to!

7. What’s the longest you’ve ever been stuck at an airport?
On my way back from Australia, I missed my connection at LAX so spent about, oh, 12 hours there I think?  Which doesn't sound like a lot but, but there was something like a 14 hour time difference and I had been traveling for over 20 hours at that point and was a puddle of tears as I just wanted to be home.  And I was traveling alone so I had no one to watch my stuff so I couldn't really sleep...  Not fun.  This was almost 10 years ago and I still vividly remember calling my mom BAWLING.

8. What’s your daily makeup/face/cleansing routine?
Face wash & eye make up remover for cleansing and a quick 5 minute application of bare minerals make up in the morning.

9 . Where is your farthest away friend?
I have a lot of friends that are sort of far away...  I am not sure who is the furthest, maybe my sister in Tucson?  Or Amber in Kamploops?

10. Where is your favorite place to go hiking (or to enjoy nature)?
I loved hiking in Steamboat Springs, CO.  That is the only place I have really spent a considerable amount of time hiking.  I would really, really like to get back there for a summer vacation...  but my summers keep filling up with other commitments.  Maybe in 2013?

Ten on Tuesday

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  This week the ToT questions were thought up by me.  So answer one/some/all of them in your comments (or on your blog!).  Chelsea hosts this weekly post, and you can link up over on her blog

1. How do you pronounce the word aunt? Does your pronunciation rhyme with ‘haunt’ or ‘can’t'?
It rhymes with 'haunt'.  I believe I am in the minority on this pronunciation.  I feel like my ND friends are the only people who say it that way.

2. Do most of the people in your life know you blog? Or are you partially or totally anonymous?
I think most of the people who know me really well know that I blog.  But I am not totally 'out there' with my blogging - meaning, I don't have my blog on my facebook page, and I don't really advertise the fact that I have a blog.  Most of my family and some close friends read it.

3. When you grocery shop, do you prefer to bag your own groceries or do you like it when the store bags them for you? Paper, plastic, or reusable bags?
I try to use reusable when I remember to bring them (and am not buying too many groceries).  Otherwise i prefer plastic as I use have an easy time reusing the bags.  I actually prefer to bag my own groceries.  I find that when they bag them for you, they put WAY too much stuff in each bag.

4. Do you have a green thumb?
Hells, no.  The only plant I can keep alive is a cactus my friend gave me years ago.

5. If you watch the Food Network, which chef/show host is your favorite?
Definitely Ina Garten, aka The Barefoot Contessa.  I love her French-inspired recipes.  And I think her & her husband are ADORABLE.  They are just so in love.  Or appear to be.  She really lights up when she talks about a special meal she is preparing for him!  Gah!  I want that kind of love.  Except with Amos Lee instead of Jeffrey (yep, still obsessed with Amos).

6. Do you like to take baths? Do you take them very often?
The only baths I have taken in the 6 years I have lived in my condo are ice baths during marathon training.  I am so not a bath person.  I get bored.  And since I am sort of tallish, I never really fit in the bathtub (at least not the tubs I've had in the places I've lived).  If I never take another bubble bath in my life, I am totally ok with that.  I did love my post-long run ritual of sitting in the bath while watching a rom-com of some sort (I can see my tv from my bathtub if I leave the bathroom door open).  I realize this is an odd ritual, but whatever.  I'm quirky like that.

7. What color are the walls in your kitchen?
They are sort a red that sort of has an orangey hue to it.  I was hoping for more of a brick red color.  I didn't dislike it enough to paint it again, though (I despise painting).

The walls of my new place's kitchen are yellow.  Like EVERY SINGLE OTHER WALL IN THE APARTMENT.  Seriously.  Who likes yellow that much??  I will probably be painting the bathroom and possibly the living room/kitchen area.

8. Do you prefer to dine outdoors or indoors?
As long as it's not too buggy outside, I prefer to eat outside.  I think it's so relaxing!  Especially at the cabin when you can hear the water lapping on the shore.  Ahh...  It's like heaven on earth!

9. Describe your ideal weather.
In the summer, I like it to be 80 & sunny with no clouds in the sky and a light breeze.  In the fall, I love a cool, crisp, 50 degree day.

For running, I like temps in the 45-55 range.

10. If you could learn any foreign language, which would you choose to learn?
I'll be captain obvious here.  French.  Of course.  Je parle un peu (I speak a little for the non-francophiles out there).  When all the CFA exams are behind me (I have 2 more levels), I plan on taking some French classes.

Ten on Tuesday

Another set of questions, hosted by Chelsea of Roots and Rings!

1. What type of phone do you have? Do you like it?
I recently got an iPhone, which I really like.  Except the touch screen.  I swear, I could have sent an email on my blackberry blind folded.  I can look directly at the screen and still screw up half the words.  Have not adjusted to the touch screen!

I also have a blackberry for work, but it's primarily for email.

2. How old were you when you got your first cell phone?
I was 21.

3. How many cell phones have you owned since your first?
Maybe 4?

4. How much is your average monthly phone bill?
It is right around $74.  I never go over my minutes.  Ever.  I think $74 is pretty reasonable for a smart phone.  Luckily I get almost 25% off because of an employee discount program.

5. When you were a kid/teenager, were you allowed to have a phone in your room?
I think when I was a junior or senior they let me have a phone in my room?

6. Do you like talking on the phone or do you despise it? Or somewhere in-between?
I am not really a phone person...  I prefer email and text messages because I am awkward on the phone.  Except at work, I can talk on the phone.  But outside of work, not so great on the phone.  But I have some dear friends who live far away so I do make time to talk to them as often as we can.

7. Do you text a lot? Is texting/talking while driving illegal where you live? Are you guilty of it anyway?
Yes.  I am big on texting.  It's my preferred method of communication.  It is illegal to text and drive.  I did it quite a bit on my blackberry because I could send an entire text without looking at the phone once.  Now I try not to text and drive since I am horrible at typing on my iPhone.  But i have done it a couple of times.

8. What sort of texting keyboard does your phone have? Touch screen, slide out, or something different? Do you care?
Touch screen.

9. Look at the last call in your call log – who is it? What were they calling about? Who calls you the most?
The last call was from my friend Amanda.  We went to a movie last night and she called to tell me to get seats for us as she was going to be a little late due to traffic.  (We saw Bridesmaids, which was hilarious!)

10. What is the longest phone call you can recall having?Probably a phone conversation with my high school boyfriend.  He lived an hour away so we talked on the phone A LOT.  And it was long distance.  Not sure how I got away with that.  I think there were some discussions about very expensive phone bills.  I think we would talk for hours upon hours.  Ah, young love.

10 on Tuesdays

1. Have you ever used Craigslist?
I used it for the first time last week - I listed my condo for rent and looked for condo's downtown.

2. Can you sew?
Not at all.  My mom tried to teach me when I was maybe 8 or 9?  Disasterous.  I tried making a bag for a 4-H project.  I couldn't control the speed of the foot pedal.  She said - 'here, let me know show you.'  5 minutes later, the project was complete.  I don't think sewing is for me.

3. Do you pour syrup on your pancakes or dip your pancakes in the syrup?
Pour the syrup over!  I've never heard of someone dipping pancakes in syrup!

4. Rain storms: Love them or hate them?
I like them.  I find the sound of rain and thunder extremely soothing.

5. Do you like swimming?
I really like to swim, but I don't do it that often.

6. What kind of drink do you order at Sonic?
I have never been to a Sonic.  We don't have any by us (that I know of).  I think I would get a cherry limeaid if I went to one (I think that's a drink they serve?).

7. Are you funny?
Not in general, but I have random things happen to me which make for good stories that I can usually laugh at (and make others laugh at) after the fact.

8. At what age will your kids get cell phones?
Um, like 18.  I can't believe how young kids are when they get cell phones.  I got my first cell phone at the age of 21.  How on earth did I survive all those years without a phone - gasp.

9. What’s your favorite vegetable?
Tough call...  I'd say tomatoes, but that is technically a fruit...  so I have to say potatoes.  Or fresh green beans.  Or all vegetables, really!

10. Were you a Girl Scout?
Nope.  I don't think we had a Girl Scout Troop in my one-horse town.  Instead I was in 4-H.

Ten on Tuesday: A Picture's Worth a Thousand Words

This week, to answer Chelsea's questions pictorally (is that a word?)!

This is a photo edition of ToT. Post a photo of each of the following:

1. Your favorite piece of furniture in your home.

My reading chair
2. Your favorite thing on your wall.

Can't pick just one... I love these 3 Paris prints
3. Your bed as it looks right now.

I always make my bed, every morning!
4. Your pantry.

I live in a shoe box so I don't have a pantry.  This holds most of the food I own.
 5. Your favorite piece of jewelry.

I am not a jewelry person... if I had to choose, I'd say these earrings...
 6. Your favorite book.

7. Your most comfortable shirt.

Dryfit race shirts are my favorite - esp when they are long-sleeved (I am perpetually cold)
8. Your messiest room.

If I am not sleeping, this is where I am at when I am home.  It's a living room + office + dining area.  It never looks orderly.
9. Your house shoes.

10. Yourself.

My nephew and I at his birthday party earlier this month.  Yes I am wearing a Thomas party hat.  I am a cool aunt like that.

Ten on Tuesday

Chelsea's 10 on Tuesday movie-themed questions were written by the lovely Nora

1. If you could watch only one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
You've Got Mail.  I adore that movie!  I just think Kathleen Kelly is one of the most likeable characters ever.  And she has some great quotes in the movie that I can relate to, like this one:

"Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life - well, valuable, but small - and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven't been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around? I don't really want an answer. I just want to send this cosmic question out into the void. So good night, dear void."
2. Let’s say someone wrote a screenplay about you; what actor/actress would you choose to play you and why?
Maybe Rachel Weisz?  I bear no resemblance to her, I just really like her on-screen personality.

3. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in theaters?I think it was Little Mermaid!

4. Did you ever make out at the back of a movie theater in middle school/high school?Nope!

5. Are you a Netflix-er, Blockbuster-er or a Redbox-er? (Or none of the above?)
I'm a Netflixer, and holy canasta, I am one profitable customer for them. I think I've had 2 discs since January.  I should just cancel my service and resume this fall...

6. Name one actor/actress who you would give anything to have a dinner date with.
Maybe Ryan Reynolds?  But only if he has a personality akin to his character if Definitely, Maybe.  Then he would have the total package of looks + wit + brains.

7. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?
Most definitely Magnolia with Tom Cruise.  Those are 3 hours of my life I'd like to get back.

8. Do you sneak snacks into the theater when you go?
If I am planning ahead, then yes.  I will usually bring my own soda.

9. Movie theater popcorn: love or hate it?
I love it as long as you don't put butter on it...  not a fan of buttery popcorn!

10. What is the all-time best Disney movie in your opinion?
I'd have to go with Beauty and the Beast.  I adore that movie.

Ten on Tuesday

Another batch of questions from Chelsea of Roots and Rings!

1. What is the weather like in your city today?
The weatherman says it will be 67 and sunny.  I hope he is right.  Yesterday it was 35 and overcast.  I am kind of hating Minnesota right now, so I need some good weather to remind me why I live here....

2. Do you like the zoo?
I'm sort of ambivalent.  I could go years without going...  But I did enjoy the penguin exhibit at the zoo in St Louis when I visited Nora!

3. Do you eat coconut?
Not really...  I'm not a huge fan...

4. Have you ever hammered a nail? Are you good at it?
Yes.  Many times.  And no, I am not very good at it.  I always come very close to smashing the fingers holding the nail.  I wish there was a "hire a husband" service or something like that because I HATE doing anything involving tools like hammers, drills, etc...

5. Does your family have a vacation destination that you visit often?
Yes, I spend as many weekends at my parents cabin in the summer as I can!  It's my little slice of heaven on earth!  It's nothing fancy, but we spend the majority of the time outside, so we don't really 'need' a nice place.

6. How many pillows do you sleep with?
1 pillow + a body pillow.

7. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Take the pills I am on for my acne (it's down from 3 to 2 now.  Woo hoo!)

8. Will you send your kids to summer camp?
If my make believe children want to go, then yes.

9. What do you put in your baked potatoes?
A little bit of earth balance "butter", tofutti "sour cream", and a heck of  a lot of freshly ground pepper.

10. Did you take swimming lessons as a kid?
Yes, probably for about 6 years I think?  I loved swimming lessons.  We grew up going to the various lakes in the area so learning to swim was not optional!

Ten on Tuesday

Good morning!  Here's another batch of questions from Chelsea!

1. How many blogs do you read every day and what are they? (I’m talking the ones you NEVER miss)
I read maybe 3-5 every day consistently.  It is getting increasingly hard for me to keep up with reading/commenting/posting so I don't get to people's blogs are regularly as I used to...

2. How many “best friends” do you have? Do you have different “besties” for different areas of your life?
I don't like the word "best friend" - it works for some people, but I could never say that one person is my BEST friend.  Instead of have a tight knit group of people that I consider close friends.  I have different groups of close friends, though - college, blogging-friends-turned-real-life-friends, family members, and work friends.

3. What’s your daily make up routine?
I put my make up on the exact same order every day.  I use bare minerals.  I always wear foundation, concealer, eye liner, and mascara.  Some days I wear blush.  I rarely wear lipstick as I feel like it looks ridiculous on me...

4. What is your ideal girl’s night?
A girl's night in.  We'd cook dinner, read magazines, watch Sex and the City, and then someone would paint my nails because Lord knows I can NOT paint my own!

5. Do you keep up with your nails/toenails or are they au natural?
I do not keep up with my nails/toenails - see above comment about my inability to paint my own.  Sometimes I will put on a clear coat.

6. What’s your best roommate story (assuming you had a roommate at some point in your life)?
When I was a freshman in college, one night my roommate came home and saw that the door was locked.  I wasn't super good about locking the door when I was home so she thought this meant I was not home.  She started to celebrate and shout about how happy she was that I was gone.  Boy was that awkward when she opened the door and saw that I was in my bed.  Awake.  Lovely.  We were like oil and water, but looking back, it was a good experience for me because it taught me to be more tolerant of others.

7. What’s your “go to” outfit that you wear more than anything else?
In the summer, it's a summer sundress of some sort.  In the winter, it's jeans, black heels, and a black top of some sort.

8. Do you have a beauty secret?
Not that I can think of!  Honestly, I am a pretty low maintenance girl so I am not one to really have lots of beauty trips up my sleeve!

9. Did you read Seventeen magazine growing up?
Yes, I did.  And Teen!  Loved those magazines!

10. How did you learn to put on makeup?
I definitely taught myself.  Which is probably why I am really not that great at it!!

Ten on Tuesday

First things first, a big congratulations goes out to Nora - she got engaged on Saturday night!  You can read all about it (and check out her gorgeous ring) here!  Last year was totally the year of the baby as multiple friends found out there were expecting.  2011 is totally the year of the engagement!  First Amber, then Charbelle, now Nora!  And, ahem, I have or will have run races with these 3 ladies.  Granted Nora and I haven't started training yet, but we've registered.  So I am 3 for 3 on racing partners getting engaged.  I might register for a race and start to refer to myself in the 3rd person and see any of my luck rubs off on myself...

Anywho, back to the regularly schedule post...  Chelsea's Ten on Tuesday is a book themed one.  Woo hoo!

1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
One of my favorite books is the travel memoir, Without Reservations by Alice Steinbach.  She takes a sabbatical from her job and travels to Paris, Italy, and Oxford.  Some (or maybe all, can't remember) of the chapters begin with a postcard that she sends to herself at home.  Brilliant idea, right?  I kind of wish I had done that on my Paris trip...

2. Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
I mostly buy books...  The books I want to read never seem to be available at the library - especially books for book club.  Sometimes I am not patient enough to wait months to read a book so I just buy it.
3. E-readers, yay or nay?
Love them.  I have been meaning to do a post about my nook for awhile...  I resisted e-readers for the longest time and finally caved and bought one last fall.  Best.  Decision.  Ever.

4. What was your favorite book as a child?
It was a Mickey Mouse version of the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

5. If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
Maybe Madeline so I could live in France.  Except, I'd want to be an adult version of her.  I have no desire to be a child again.

6. What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
That's a tough one...  Maybe City of Thieves?  I really enjoyed that book and I think the plot lends itself well to a screen play.

7. What is your all-time favorite book?
Tuesdays with Morrie.  I usually read it about once a year when I need an attitude adjustment!

8. How many books do you read at once?
Usually just 1.  I get confused or lose focus otherwise!

9. What is your favorite book genre?
Travel memoirs!  Especially if they are set in France.  :)

10. Which Harry Potter book is the best? Or haven’t you read them at all?
I don't think I can pick a favorite, I love them all!

Ten on Tuesday

Chelsea's 10 on Tuesday questions are ones that I came up with!! So answer all or a few in your comment!
1. If you work, do you drive to work or take public transportation?
Both. I drive to a park & ride, and then take a bus downtown to work. I love taking public transportation since I hate driving!

2. How often do you get your haircut? Do you go to the same person every time?
I get it cut about 3-4 x's per year and I always go to the same person. I've been going to her for about 2 years now and I just love her. It's like catching up with a good friend when I get my hair cut.

3. Do you read the newspaper? If so, a hardcopy or the online version?
I read the news, but not a physical newspaper. I pretty much only read the news through Bloomberg at work (it pulls in economic/headline stories from a bunch of news sources so makes it easy to keep up on what's going on).

4. What is the best book you have read this year?
Probably "The Invisible Bridge" by Julie Orringer. Great novel about WWII.

5. What is the best movie you have seen this year?
The King's Speech.

6. Do you tend to crave sweet or salty foods?
Definitely salty. I am not really a sweets person... They are fine, but I don't really crave them. But chips or pickles? Yes please!
7. Do you eat breakfast every day? If so, what do you have? Hells, yes. I would probably collapse if I didn't eat breakfast. No joke. I have eggs nearly every day - over easy w/ GF toast these days. I heart eggs.

8. If you celebrate Easter, what Easter treat/candy are you most looking forward to? I know I just said I am not a huge sweets person, but I have a weakness for those big egg-shaped peanut butter cups. Mmm...

9. How late is “sleeping in” to you? 7:30-8. My mom's jaw probably dropped when she read that as I have never been an early riser... But now that I get up at 5:15 for work, my concept of sleeping in has changed... and I don't think I could possibly sleep past 9 unless I was on tranquilizers or something...

10. Where are you going on your next vacation? I don't have anything specifically planned... I will start to travel for work this fall, though, so am hoping to fly in early/stay longer and make a vacation out of my trips to Boston and Charlotte since I have blogging friends that live in those cities!

Ten on Tuesday

Ufda, Chelsea's questions are all date related... I am not dating right now. As I have told friends/family - I am so not dateable right now because of my study schedule... And truth be told, even when my schedule does clear up, I am a bit pessimistic about my dating life because in Minnesota, Minnesota 30 = OLD. Trust me on this. Every single college girlfriend is married. And has been for years. So believe me when I say that 30 is old.

1. What is your idea best date?
A date when the conversation is so good, you don't want the date to end. As far as location goes, I think it would be fun to go to this local place called "Chatterbox" where you can play board games.

2. How long does it take you to get ready to go on a date?
Hmm... maybe 30 minutes? Depends on whether it's a weekend night date or week night date. If it's a week night date, I usually go straight from work so I don't really spend any time getting ready.

3. What would you wear on the date?
If it's a weekend, probably jeans and heels - unless it's summer, then I wear a sundress usually. Week night - I try to select an outfit that is work appropriate but also date appropriate.

4. If you are married, how often do you go on dates? If you are single, when was your last date?
I am single. I haven't gone on any date sinces my break-up in late December.

5. What was your worst date?
The one where the guy wanted to argue about religion. He asked what religion I practiced, I said Catholic, and then he tried to convince me that Catholicism was not a Christian religion??? Weird. Awkward. Awful.

6. Do you/Did you kiss on your first date?
It really depends. I'd say in general, no.

7. If married, how long before you knew he/she was the one? If single, how long before you know if the person is marriage material?
I know pretty quickly. I might not know if the guy is 'the one' right away, but I definitely know if he isn't.

8. Do you prefer day dates or night dates?
Night. I prefer low lighting. It's much more flattering.

9. How old were you when you first were allowed to date?
I think 16 maybe?

10. What is the most embarassing moment you have had on a date?
When I was in college, my date dropped me off and I decided to walk across the snow covered yard instead of taking the side walk, I slipped and pretty much superman dove and fell on top of my to go box. My date was watching to make sure I made it to the door, so he saw it. Lovely.

Ten on Tuesday

This week's questions from Chelsea have a foodie theme to them!!

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?
I never thought I would like sushi. Then my brother talked me into trying it when I moved to Minneapolis and it's now one of my favorite foods. I could seriously eat sushi every day - and I crave it!!

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones? Nope! I only subscribe to Runner's World and I rarely read that these days!

3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook? Crushed red pepper or cumin! Interestingly enough, I think these are 2 ingredients that my mom probably did not use much when we were growing up so it's kind of interesting that they are my 'go to' spices as an adult!

4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult? I didn't really love mushrooms when I was a kid - now I adore them!

5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird? Tortilla chips w/ pickles and macaroni with ketchup are 2 things that come to mind!

6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with? I think parsnips are odd because they tend to come in wax and that just sort of threw me for a loop initially.

7. Do you have any major food allergies? I have a gluten intolerance - which is technically NOT an allergy, but people tend to think gluten intolerance = allergy. I don't eat dairy right now as it appears to impact my complexion but I wouldn't classify that as an allergy or intolerance...

8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try? I am sort of intimidated by fresh fish. I am worried that I will either over cook it... or under cook it... and that my condo will smell of fish for days after cooking.

9. Do you bake? Rarely. Like once every 3 months and the only thing I bake is gluten free banana bread. I think gluten free baking is super tricky/finicky, and I don't deal well w/ recipe failures, so, besides this fantastic banana bread recipe that I have, I just sort of avoid baking in general!

10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why? Top Chef because then I could meet Tom Colicchio. I sort of have a crush on him - I love his facial expressions. Random thing to like, but I love how his facial expressions really indicate how he feels - especially when he is talking to the chefs as they prepare for a challenge. And the guy is super talented.

Ten on Tuesday

Good morning! This group of questions from Chelsea makes me really wish it was summer now. We had great weather last week. But this week? They are forecasting snow. Ahh!!

1. What condiments are always, always in your fridge?
Ketchup, mustard, and salsa. Yes, salsa is a condiment in my world.

2. How do you like your steak cooked? Your burgers?
I like my steak medium rare and my burgers medium well.

3. What’s your favorite use for fresh tomatoes?
I like them diced up on a salad. Or just sliced up with a little salt and pepper. Mmm. I love tomatoes. When I was child, my mom had an ginormous garden and grew so many tomatoes. I bet we harvested hundreds each summer. It was a shock to the system to have to actually pay for produce when I started living on my own!

I am going to attempt to grow some tomatoes on my patio this summer!

4. What’s your go-to dinner when you haven’t planned anything in advance and you don’t feel like going out?
A can of soup.

5. What’s your favorite snack food lately?
Chips & salsa. Or tortilla chips with pickles on them - odd, I know, but don't knock it until you try it!

6. What’s your favorite weekend breakfast to make at home?
Scrambled eggs with diced veggies.

7. What’s your favorite thing to grill? How do you do it?
My favorite thing is my brother's grilled chicken. How do I do it? I sit back and watch. Ha.

My condo association only allows electric grills and I don't think electric grills 'count' so if I want grilled food, I need to invite myself over to my brother's or go to my parents' cabin!

8. What’s your favorite wine for under $10? If you’re not a wine person, what brand of beer is your favorite?
I like Yellowtail. I do not have a well developed palette when it comes to wine, so buying expensive wine is a waste for me!

9. Give us your most delicious cocktail recipe.
This is actually my sister's recipe for Margarita's, but it's one of my favorite drinks so I am stealing it!

- 1 can lime aid concentrate
- 1 squeezed lime
- 3/4 c. of Tequila
- 1/4 c. of Triple Sec
- fill blender with ice

Blend.

Simple right? And SO good.

10. How do you like your eggs?
I prefer them either scrambled with salsa on top or over easy if I have some gluten free toast to dip in the runny yolks. Mmmmm... I really, really love eggs. Best breakfast ever!

Ten on Tuesday

Good morning and happy Tuesday! Here's another batch of questions from the lovely Chelsea of Roots and Rings!

1. What is your cleaning style like?
I sort of go in spurts - I'll just pick up week to week and then I will go on a cleaning spree and will do a deep clean. That said.... I recently hired a cleaning service because life hs gotten a bit too busy lately and I just couldn't find the time to clean.

2. What is your favorite thing to add to an outfit to take it from casual to classy?
Heels!

3. Do you like stormy weather?
I like thunderstorms, as long as I am not out running or planning on running. I do not care for winter storms. They make my commute horrible. I mean, it's a nice thought to be 'snowed in' but that just never happens because there is no such thing as a "snow day" in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

4. What is your favorite cold treat on a hot day?
Popsicles!

5. What is your favorite warm treat on a cold day?
Hot cocoa or a bowl of soup.

6. Who is your favorite animated character?
Even though I am deathly afraid of mice, but I think Ratatouille is an adorable character.

7. What do you keep your jewelry in?
A jewelry box.

8. Do any of the rooms in your house have a theme?
All of the art in my bedroom are Paris prints. That's about it for a 'theme'.

9. Do you watch any interior design TV shows – if so, what is your favorite?
Never. I suck at things like interior design - watching a show on tv is not going to help someone like me.

10. When was the last time you did something risk-taking?
Before I could apply for my new job within my company, I had to get the permission of my boss since I had been in my previous role less than a year. He had the right to tell me that I couldn't apply, but luckily he let me as he knew it was in my best interest as my new job was a promotional opportunity and a perfect fit.

Ten on Tuesday

This week's edition of Chelsea's Ten on Tuesday has a "what's in a name" theme!

1. How did your parents decide on your name?
My father named me after a character from a soap opera he watched. My dad is a total man's man so the fact that he used to watch soap opera's? I think that's hilarious.

2. Do your initials (First, Middle, Last) spell out anything fun/funny?
My initials are LAD. My parents actually wanted my middle name to be Suzanne, but then they would have been LSD, so they went with Anne instead!

3. Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you take your maiden name as your middle name? (If unmarried, what do you plan to do?)
Gosh, if I made my last name my middle name, that would potentially make for a really long name... So when/if I marry, I will most likely just take my husband's last name and ditch my current one.

4. Are you or will you name your children thematically (ie. same first letter, all of same origin…)
Nope.

5. Did you decide on baby names as a little girl? Did you stick to them or change your mind?
I do not remember thinking of child names as a little girl... These days, I have names I like but nothing I am dead set at using when/if I have kids!

6. Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?
Not that I know of!

7. Do you look at the meaning of the name or just the name itself?
I just look at the name itself. If it happens to have a neat meaning behind it, then great.

8. Do you name pets with human names (Sally, Henry) or with pet names (Fluffy, Mr. Bo Bo)?
I am gone 13+ hours a day most days... I would have the most neglected pet, so I don't have any pets. We had 2 cats when I was in high school that we named Allegro & Fritz. Fritz bit the dust but Allegro is still alive and kicking (and living with my parents). I love the name Allegro, it fits him so well. We chose that name because its musical meaning fit the cat's personality.

9. Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike for based on a childhood experience/someone you once knew?
Childhood, not really. Adulthood, yes. I have dated so many Brians and Ryans, I think I can rule those out as future name choices. That's about it, though.

10. What are some of your favorite names? Why?
For boys, I like Paul (my dad's name), Neil (my maternal grandfather's name), and Liam (for no particular reason).

For girls, I like Claire, Lydia (but only if she was born with dark hair, I don't picture a Lydia being blond), and Colette (because it's French & I think it's beautiful - I know this will be a tough sell with my future husband, unless he's French, since it's a bit different).

Ten on Tuesday

Another set of questions from Chelsea of Roots and Rings. Just a heads up, she is always looking for questions, so send some her way!

1. What type of cell phone do you have and how would you rate it?
I have a Blackberry. I think it's a pearl, but I can't remember... I loved it for the first 9-12 months. Then it got RIDICULOUSLY slow. These days I have to take the battery out on nearly a daily basis, which is annoying. For that reason, I rate it as a 3.

I will be eligible for an upgrade in May and I plan on getting an iPhone. CAN'T WAIT. I've patiently waited for 3+ years for Verizon to have an iPhone! Woo hoo!

2. What has been your most serious injury?
A hairline fracture to my wrist in 3rd grade. So nothing very serious!

3. What is one movie you hate and why?
I would have to say the movie Magnolia. It's the only movie where I have actually gotten up and left a movie theater. When it started raining frogs I said - enough is enough, this is terrible. It is hands down the WORST movie I have ever seen. Hated it.

4. How many email addresses do you have?
3: work, gmail, and hotmail. But I only check work and gmail on a regular basis.

5. What website do you waste the most time on?
Maybe Facebook? But I am barely on there.

6. Which mexican restaurant makes the best salsa?
I love the salsa at this local place called Pepitos. But I have really not met a salsa I didn't like. I adore salsa.

7. What is your dream car?
Um, I don't have a dream car. My dream car is one that is driven by someone else - meaning, a chauffeur. It could be a pinto - as long as someone else is behind the wheel, I am happy.

8. If you could spend up to $100 with no strings or restrictions or guilt, what would you buy?
I would use it to book a massage for myself. Life has been a bit stressy lately so I could really use one!

9. What is your favorite board game?
Trivial Pursuit. This is a family favorite - we tend to play it on all the major holidays. Love it.

10. How often do you change your hairstyle?
Rarely. I am a creature of habit!

Ten on Tuesday

Another set of questions from the lovely Chelsea of Roots and Rings!

1. What’s your favorite kind of donut?
Well, donuts have gluten in them, so I don't eat them. And I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of them in the first place!

2. Do you use the snooze button?
Rarely! I used to but I broke that habit!

3. Do you write in cursive, print, or a combination of the two?
Sort of a combination of the two - it's barely legible. I really do not like my handwriting.

4. Tell us a joke.
A carrot and a mushroom were dating. One day, the mushroom said, "I'm sorry, we need to break up, this just isn't working." The carrot asked why. The mushroom said, "Because you're not a fungi." Ha.

My dad spoke at a carrot convention once (yes, there is such a thing as a carrot convention). I told him he should tell this joke. He didn't. That was probably a good decision. Joke telling is not a strength of mine.

5. How many languages do you speak?
Sadly, only 1. I know enough French to get by and ask all of my questions/order in French, but that's about it. I'd love to be fluent in French some day!

6. Why did you start blogging?
I started my France blog so my family would know what I was up to when I was in France for 3 weeks in 2008. I enjoyed blogging so much, I started this one when I got back!

I'll be posting in on my France blog when I am in Paris next week so add it to your reader (if you care to read about what I am up to over there!).

7. Do you use bar soap or liquid body wash?
Bar soap.

8. Do you buy bottled water?
Only when I am traveling.

9. What did you think of the Super Bowl Half Time Show?
I thought it was actually pretty entertaining and I enjoyed it - well, the parts when Fergie wasn't singing. I can't stand her. I don't have a good reason for this. Just the sight of her annoys me.

10. How do you feel about Steve Carell leaving The Office?
I am ambivalent because I no longer watch this show!

Ten on Tuesday

1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Spending time with my cousins at the lake.

2. What is your favorite quality about yourself?
I am very determined - when I set my mind on something, there is no stopping me!

3. What is your favorite thing that your child does?
I have no kids, but I love it when my nephews tell me they love me!

4. What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
I love to curl up with a good book and a freshly brewed cup of coffee!

5. What is your favorite restaurant? And what is your favorite thing on the menu?
That's a tough one... Maybe Barrio? I love their guacamole and their steak tacos. Yum.

6. What is your favorite piece of jewelry (besides your wedding ring)?
My friend Heidi got me this Paris necklace a couple of years ago - one side has a pic of the Eiffel Tower, the other side says 'Ooh La La'. It's a fun piece to wear!

7. What is your favorite night of the week M-TH? And why?
Tuesday night because Parenthood is on. That is one of the few shows I watch these days!

8. What is your favorite dessert?
Chocolate mousse

9. What is your favorite item in your make-up bag?
Probably my mascara? I really like Neutrogena. It doesn't clump!

10. What is your favorite smell?
The smell in my mom's kitchen on the morning of Thanksgiving. I think it's the smell of the stuffing that I adore. Mmmm...

Ten on Tuesday

Another batch of questions from the lovely Chelsea of Roots and Rings!

1. Do you decorate for Valentine’s day?
No, but I did in college - I used to put up these pink, heart shaped lights. I was known for loving Valentine's Day - even though I was always single. I know many people hate Valentine's Day - and I do not care for the commercialized aspect of the holiday, but I do love that there is one day of the year where we are reminded to tell the people we love that we love them. I know you shouldn't need a holiday to do this, but sadly, some people do.

2. Does your desktop have a picture or computer graphic? Is it organized?
My desktop if organized. I can not stand a cluttered desktop with tons of files saved out there. It makes me cringe when I see that someone's entire desktop is filled with files! I have to resist the urge to organize it for them. I have no picture in the background - it's just a boring blue background!

3. Do you use a paper planner, electric planner or no planner at all?
In the past, I printed off calendars and used them to plan out my life. But they are not very portable, obviously, so I needed a new system. After Amber raved about her Erin Condren planner (and seeing it in person on our Portland trip), I decided to invest in one. It should arrive this week - can't wait!

4. Do you change purses or bags often or stick with a good thing?
I am sort of hard on purses because of the amount of stuff I haul around, so I change them somewhat frequently.

5. What’s your favorite YouTube Video?
I don't have one... I really am not on YouTube much!

6. Do you use Turbo Tax or a real person to pay your taxes?
I use an H&R Block tax filing program and file my own. I actually enjoy doing my taxes. :)

7. How many states have you set foot (or tire) in? Which ones?
Oh geez, that's a good question... I don't even know.... Maybe 20? That number would far lower had I not gone on trip to California with my grandparents in their motor home. I really have not seen much of the US!

8. How many countries have you been in? Which ones?
I have been to 10, in the following order: Canada, England, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Dominican Republic, France.

9. How many pillows are in your house? (Sleeping or decorative)
I have 2 sleeping pillows, 5 decorative pillows on my bed, and 4 pillows in my living room which are boring ones that came w/ my furniture.

10. How cold is too cold for flip flops?
Maybe 50 degrees? I am actually not a huge fan of flip flops so I don't really wear them all that often! I'd prefer to wear flats over flip flops...

Ten on Tuesday

1. What’s your favorite color to paint your nails?
Clear. It's the only sustainable color. My nails chip so easily (it seems) and I am too lazy to re-apply polish every couple of days.

But really, I maybe paint my nails twice a year? It's just not a priority for me.

2. Do you like to sneeze?
I don't mind it. It's the best feeling when you can feel a sneeze coming on and then you sneeze. Ah, sweet relief.

3. How often do you fill up your car with gas?
About once/week.

4. Were you named after anyone?
I don't think so.

5. Have you made any good recipes lately?
Yes. I made this bean and rice dish on a week night 2 week ago and it was awesome! And super simple. And then I made my favorite recipe ever, Beef in Pomegranate Sauce, which is SO easy and it's so good, you will want to lick your plate afterwards. Seriously, MAKE IT!

6. What’s an easy money-saving tip that you use regularly?
My newest one is parking at an off-site parking place instead of parking at the airport. Airport parking in Minneapolis ridiculously expensive. It's $18/day for our main terminal. It's $9.75 at this off-site place. I feel a bit sheepish about the fact that I have lived here for nearly 8 years and am just discovering this now.

I also save money by rarely buying coffee drinks. I used to drink 3-4 lattes a week. Oy vey, that adds up fast. Now I rarely buy a latte. It's so much cheaper to make it at home!

7. Would you rather have a sore throat or an ear ache?
A sore throat. I haven't had a bad ear ache ever, but I had a mild one once and oh my gosh, it was painful!

8. Do you have any scars? What are they from?
Yes. A small scar on my forehead from being accidentally catapulted into a tv set by my older sister.

9. What are you “known for” in your circle of friends/family?
I am known for my love of pickles in my family.

I am sort of known as the librarian in my group of friends because I own a lot of books, I like to make book recommendations, and I tend to dress like a librarian.

I am also known for being very punctual and being obsessed with all things French!

10. How do you like to eat your pancakes?
I like them with a little bit of maple syrup on them. Mmm... And I really like my pancakes with fresh blueberries IN them. Delicious.
