Currently: March

Reading:  Moonlight Over Paris by Jennifer Robson. I read and enjoyed the other 2 books by this author so I think I will like this one, too!  I've read some heavier books lately so am due for a lighter, fun read like this. Thanks to Mandy to gifting this to me for my birthday!

Loving: sweet potatoes. I never thought I'd say the word love and sweet potato in the same sentence! Since starting W30, sweet potatoes have become a staple of my diet as I have them every morning with a fried egg for breakfast.  They are so tasty when prepared in a savory way.

Thinking: that I am due for a massage real soon!

Frustrated: with my body.  Big time. My MRI showed that I have a labrel tear. Labrel tears are very common but the doctor decided to refer me to a surgeon because between the bone growth on my hip joint and my lack of response to PT, he thinks surgery might be necessary.  Le sigh.  

Feeling: kind of tired. The past month has been especially busy for me. I *think* April will be quieter. I'm due for a "shouldless" day but don't think I will be able to squeeze one into March so might have to do 2 in April!

Anticipating:  our trip to San Francisco in late April! San Francisco is one of my favorite cities so I can't wait to explore it with Phil, plus it will be awesome to spend time with Kyria!

Watching: the newest season of House of Cards when I am with Phil, and getting close to finishing the 4th season of Gilmore Girls when I watch Netflix on my own.

Sad: that I won't be running Grandma's Marathon in June. Given the issues with my hip it's just completely out of the question. I'm less devastated about it than I thought I would be, mostly because I haven't invested any time in the training yet, but I'm still bummed that I won't get to experience that race, especially since marathon entry fees are not cheap!

Working: out quite a bit despite the issues with my hip. The doctor told me I can still be active as the damage has been done at this point. I have been doing lots of yoga and taking lots of long walks. My workouts look very different than they normally would (i.e. no running whatsoever) but at least I'm still able to remain active.

Grateful: for health insurance. You know, because of ALL of the doctor appointments I've had recently.

Listening: to the remake of "We Built This City" by Aron Wright and Jill Andrews. I fell in love with this song after hearing it during the savasana part of a yoga class I took last week.


Wishing: that spring would arrive for real.  We had a taste of it earlier this month but in the last week we've had snow twice! It melted right away but I'm just ready for winter weather to be behind us!!

I can see how sweet potatoes would be delicious prepared in a savory way. I grew up eating them with tons of sugar and topped with marshmallows :)

I hate the fact that I wasn't able to finish my half, and I'm also going to have to miss my 10K and 10 miler April 2 and April 9 but I know that there is just no way. I was on a roll with my training and this REALLY bums me out! I'm thankful I can be active still but it's not the same as running!!!

I'm thankful for health insurance too!!! My new companies insurance is not the same but I make more money so it kind of (sort of) balances it out. Still getting hit with the unexpected 2K was not in my plans for this year!

I loved sweet potatoes in savory ways. I haven't cooked them in a couple of years. You inspired me!

Just started a new book that hooked me. was in a reading rut for a while! Adultery by Paulo Coelho.

Reading- nothing at the moment. I mean, I have books sort of started but I'm not feeling them so I don't count that as "Reading."

Grateful- my friendships. My flexible-ish work schedule. A loving and understanding family.

Listening - feel free to laugh but I totally listened to New Kids on the Block today at work. D and I watched some Wahlburger episodes last night (guilty pleasure that I forgot about when you asked what TV we watch!) and it had me in the mood for some early 90s boy band music.

I'm sorry to hear about your hip and not being able to do the marathon. When do you hear what the surgery will entail? :(
I also feel like March has been crazy and I'm not seeing that changing anytime too soon. I've been doing some purging and going through old pictures and notes and sometimes I'm just jealous of my old self who had way more time on her hands ha ha... of course I'm sure I thought I was busy at the time!

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that about your hip!! Ugh, what a major bummer. It sounds like you're doing what you can between yoga and walking. Hang in there. And hopefully as the weather gets nicer biking can be back in the mix too?

I know the marathon thing must be so disappointing. I hope you can get the tear taken care of soon so it doesn't keep hampering you, especially with the SF trip coming up.

I really enjoyed Moonlight Over Paris. Light and fun and "pretty" -- if a book can be pretty. And nice version of "We built this city."

I'm grateful that the predicted snow went north of us and Easter should be nice; watching Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and too much news; reading "Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey"(after just finishing "Paris at the End of the World" about the WWI years of 1914-18.

Ugh, I am so sorry to hear that you may need to have surgery! That is not the news I was hoping for!

I'm currently reading Modern Romance, as I talked about on my post today. (And to answer your question, I haven't watched Master of None - it's on my to-watch list!) I am watching The Voice because reality singing shows are my kryptonite. And I am grateful for a very loving roommate who has made me feel better during a crappy time. Nice to have people in your corner! :)

I know it's pretty poor consolation, but Grandma's will be around in future years. I'm really sorry to hear that you might have to have surgery! Hopefully, it will be a successful operation and your recovery will be swift and full if you need to have it!

I've been reading _The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden_. It's really fun so far. I'm really grateful that the undergrad research conference that I direct is over and went successfully. I still have a lot of work to do before the semester is over, but that was one of the biggest things on my plate for the term.

Oh, man. This all sounds so familiar to me :(
Definitely research surgeons. This is a tricky surgery and you need a specialist. Many people fly to top doctors in Chicago or Colorado to have the surgery done.
You know I am VERY glad I had the surgeries. I would actually cry going down stairs, the pain was so bad! But all the same, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the recovery is very long. Some people also say very painful - mine was not. Just want to make sure I don't come across as all bunnies-and-rainbows.

I've been LOVING on sweet potatoes recently! I was never into them before either, no idea what changed. I'm also re-watching Gilmore Girls, it's the best :)

seriously? a labrel tear? UGH! oh man if you do need surgery to fix it, I can't imagine how frustrated you must feel right now. I'm so sorry.

Not really watching anything either Bc my evenings I spend with my nose in my laptop working on licensing and my 2nd job. This shall pass

I am grateful for our San Diego trip which could not have been more perfect!!

I am so sorry about your hip. I'm glad your still able to be active and do yoga!!! But sad that you can't do Grandmas.

Savory sweet potatoes are my favorite. I love them with a little cayenne, garlic, and contiga cheese, and some salsa. (after whole 30 ;)) so delicious!!

I am sorry to hear about your hip, but at least you figured out what it friend Kelly had a labral tear and had surgery and she runs 100 mile races still! Not to say that is what you should do, but she seems to have recovered well. I am sure its frustrating to not be able to run, but it is good that you can do other activities!

I am reading The Door, which is translated from Hungarian and is a bit weird but not in a bad way... I just finished Orhan's Inheritance. The issue I am having with the Read Harder is that I picked several books from each category just in case and now I have read TWO books set in the Middle East and TWO collections of essays, etc. I often put them on hold at the library and I tell myself I will only read the one that is available first but then I get it and I decide to just read it after all... Lastly, I can't wait to see you guys!

Sweet potatoes are called kumara in NZ and there are lots of varieties. Kane likes the gold ones roasted and I like the orange ones roasted or made into fries :)

I'm so sorry to hear that you may have to have surgery :( I hope it's a speedy recovery.

I've been watching season 2 Daredevil recently and I'm grateful for peaceful mornings.

Such a bummer about your hip! I just finished Double Knot by Gretchen Archer. It's a 5th in a series and hysterical. I've been listening to the radio again recently because I was gifted an XM subscription for my birthday so I haven't been listening to as many podcasts! I'm grateful for having choices!

I love sweet potatoes too ... well, actually I don't think there is a vegetable that I don't love.

I too feel very due for a massage. I think I'll be booking a few for this month. I am at a computer a lot, and definitely need to start stretching my muscles more.

I am glad you are in such a good state of mind about not being able to run the marathon. You are doing so great about staying active anyways! I also have not been running lately (well, maybeeee once a week on average) or working out AT ALL for that matter. This is probably the longest break I've taken from really working out steadily in 5-6 years. I know I will get back into it once we are moved and settled though so I'm trying not to stress about it!
