While I don't think that weddings necessarily need to have a theme, one jumped out at me as being perfect for Phil and me: books! We are both avid readers so it's the perfect theme for us. Plus there are so many cute ideas out there on pinterest and such.
Here are a couple of ways we are incorporating our book theme into the wedding:
Save the Dates
Our "library card" save the dates |
The photo is a little blurry, but you get the idea! I am so happy with how these turned out! Luckily a good friend of mine does graphic design on the side so she designed these for us and did an amazing job (Thanks, Amanda!!).
Decor
To keep the cost down, we are doing some DIY candle projects for centerpieces instead of buying flowers as the cost of flowers adds up so dang fast. Here are a couple of project I'll be working on this spring, with the help my sister-in-law and some friends.
I'll also be using stacks of vintage books on tables as part of the centerpieces.
I'm really excited to see how it all comes together!
If you are married, did you have any sort of theme for your decor? What were your wedding colors? Ours are navy, gold, and light pink.

I LOVE hearing every detail you share and as soon as we got our Save the Date I was telling everyone How cute it was! We didn't have a theme for our wedding--other than "purple." My aunt passed away from pancreatic cancer shortly after we got engaged. Purple was her favorite color (and mine!) and it was also the cancer symbol color for pancreatic cancer. Since she left me a considerable amount of money (that we used to pay for our beautiful wedding) and we would all feel her absence on the big day, I decided to incorporate purple into everything---even my dress!
I love your theme! It is so fitting for you :) And those colors sound gorgeous together! I really cannot wait for May! I bet you feel the same :) Hehe
I love the book theme as it is right up your alley, plus it's very tasteful. I can't see you being one of those over the top theme/color people, so I think this is just perfect (and cute to boot)!
It's crazy how much some of the costs add up. My friend Kara got married in a tiny tasteful wedding in her parents' backyard (with maybe 30 - 50 people) and it still ended up taking them well over what they thought they were going to spend. Any DIY project is helpful in that aspect, PLUS it's so much better to have a memory of the things that went into your wedding to make it special, not just the stresses of spending too much!
We didn't have a specific theme, but we did get married at Christmastime so there was a sort of built-in theme thing going on. We took advantage of the trees and lights in the church in our photos and it looked pretty.
A book themed wedding shower was planned for me and I absolutely loved it! People were instructed to buy me a copy of their favourite book or one that meant something to them and then write inside why they enjoyed it or why it was sgnifucant for them. It was a really lovely way to share a love of reading and very interesting and fun for me overall. I think your theme is fantastic. It'll be fun to plan.
I keep checking for these posts! I LOVED the save the dates!!! I agree this is the absolute perfect theme for y'all!!! Your colors are gorgeous!!! I'm excited for how everything is coming together!
I think most women love to hear wedding details, so don't hesitate to share! I, too, am excited to see the final results and I know it will be beautiful!
We didn't have a theme - but 47 years ago we didn't have such a novel idea! We got married at Christmas time so flowers revolved around that. Our colors were burgandy with lilac accent. I loved it!
I love the idea of "buying a book"! That may be a good shower idea, don't you think?
But the problem with us buying a book may be that you have read so many we would give you ones you have already read! But I think it is a really cool idea!
That is a perfect theme for you guys! The save the dates turned out so well :)
That is so cool! How perfect.
We got married before themed weddings were popular, ha! no theme or specific colors here.
LOVE this theme!!! And no worries about sharing too much, I think it is fun!!
Love the theme - so perfect for you! There is a beautiful old library in New Orleans - some images here - https://goo.gl/EhyjOK
the Latter Branch library. It hadn't reopened for events after Katrina when we got married. but it's such a wonderful venue - beautiful, and full of books! I've always thought it would be perfect for a bookish wedding, but eh. Maybe we'll renew our vows one day...
Don't ever feel bad about sharing -- love love love the details!!
I had a feeling books would be your theme! I love it. So you. And LOVE your colors, too!!!
I love the save the date cards! They're fabulous -- very clever and loads of fun. And the candles are turning out very well. I thought they would but even better than I imagined!
I love the theme idea, especially when it is so personal to both of you. I will eagerly await each Wednesday!
Oh, I love it, Lisa. That's a great theme! :)
We didn't have a particular theme for our wedding... and looking back and knowing what I know now, I would probably do our wedding completely different. But I handmade our invitations (with (not by me) hand-crafted paper with rose pedals) and we had pastel-colored roses for table decoration and my wedding bouquet.
Those Save the Date cards are so cute! I love the theme. :)
I love your theme!! So excited for your wedding! My theme ended up kind of being "yellow". Ha. Yellow is certainly not my favourite colour and not something that I necessarily would have predicted I would pick but it's just such a great colour for a summer wedding. So I basically built everything out around that theme and that was the main colour scheme and theme for the decor.
What a cute theme, and I LOVE the save the dates. Keep sharing wedding posts - I love themes, party planning, etc. So fun!
PERFECT theme! LOVE the save the dates.
those are so cute! I love it. my flowers were hot pink and the girls were orange. and then the girls dresses were a bright blue.
