Wedding Wednesday: Pre-Wedding Celebrations

This is my last Wedding Wednesday post before the big event!  The wedding is 9 days away! We started off the weekend with a party that my colleague/long-term mentor, Paul, and his wife hosted at their house. All of the people in my department at work were invited, plus we included some others that Paul and I had worked with at our previous employer. I think we had about 25 people there so it was a large group! Since the party was on Cinco de Mayo, we of course had Mexican food (which is my favorite!).

Here are Phil and I at the beginning of the night, drinking margaritas out of glasses that matched our outfits!

It was such a fun evening of celebration. Paul and his wife gave a toast to us and I gave a mini speech about how thankful I am to work with such a great group of people.  I said that about 75% of my job satisfaction comes from the people I work with. I've had several jobs in departments with cultures that were not a fit for me, so I really really appreciate how well I fit in at this company!  I also had a mini-celebration in Chicago yesterday when I was there for a day trip, complete with delicious GF cupcakes!  I am feeling very spoiled by my co-workers!

Back to the weekend of fun!  Saturday was my bachelorette party! My sister came to our house on Saturday morning and we started the day with a barre class!

Sisters that sweat together, stay together
Afterwards we got to work putting together a Mexican feast. Abby and my friend Courtney co-hosted the party and did a great job planning it!  I should have taken pictures of all of the food we made, but I was too busy soaking up time with all the ladies in attendance!  We had pork and veggie tacos, 3 kinds of salsa, guacamole, a jicama and mango salad, cilantro lime rice, black beans, and grilled pineapple and bananas with ice cream for dessert!

Since our wedding is book-themed and the theme of my party was "Girls Gone Mild," I had wear a book-themed shirt from my favorite book store - Powells!

Here I am with the co-hosts, Courtney and Abby! I love these girls!

My sister-in-law, Julie, came early to help with some of the last minute preparations. She's been part of our family for so long (since 1997!) so she truly feels like a sister!

I tried to take picture with all of the girls that came.  One of my favorite pictures is the silly one I took with 2 of the members of my book club!

My bachelorette party could not have been more awesome.  I had 13 of the important ladies in my life in one room. We ate delicious food, drank wine and palomas (a drink made of grapefruit juice and tequila), laughed lots, and ended the night with a couple of games of Cards Against Humanity. I am so very, very lucky to have so many wonderful women in my life. I can't imagine going through the peaks and valleys of life without these ladies by my side!

If you are married, what did you do for your bachelorette party? If you aren't married, what is your ideal bachelorette party?

I think this all sounds absolutely wonderful!!! Love that you are being celebrated so well! I think your bachelorette party was perfect!!! So fun!!! My friend Nicole took me to dinner the Thursday night before my first wedding. This time around it worked out that I will be at the beach with Tiffany and Patrice the weekend before the wedding. I'm looking forward to a weekend where I can run and hang out on the beach or by the pool! We might go to dinner one night but Tiffany and I agreed when we had the idea for this trip that we wanted it to be a low key no makeup weekend!

It sounds wonderful. How terrific that Paul threw a party for you two and you could celebrate with colleagues and friends. And then the bachelorette party! It just sounds like my kind of evening.

Oh Lisa, I'm so very happy. Cherish these moments of joy!

Gosh, that was a perfect weekend of pre-celebrations! They both sounded like great events, and I couldn't be happier for you. Now the next 9 days will fly by and soon you will be wearing that beautiful dress and walking down the aisle as a single woman for the last time in your life! Your Dad & I couldn't be more excited to have you change your name to Segner! God Bless!

How wonderful! That sounds perfect. It also sounds like you're ready for the big day - putting the finishing touches on all of the details.

Its amazing how fast your wedding has approached! For my friend's bachelorette we invited a wine guy to do a private tasting. It was so nice to sip and learn instead of being annoyed by strangers at a bar.

It sounds like both events were a lot of fun and perfect for you! I can't believe how fast your wedding came up!
For my bachelorette we did a Red Sox game and a night out in Boston. It was a lot of fun but not what I would want to do if I was getting married now haha! But the most important thing was just having so many of my friends be there.

That was the best weekend ever!!! Thank YOU for hosting me and taking me to barre And feeding me coffee! I am so excited to celebrate your big day - and for more and more memories ahead! It was fun to get to know Phil a little better too!!

My bachelorette party was also part bachelor party...there were more guys in attendance than girls. I hate when girls say "i get along better with guys than girls" I don't think that is my case. If it was I wouldn't be in Junior League, but my nearest and dearest definitely includes quite a few men. I couldn't imagine not having them out celebrating with me. We did dinner at a really good French style restaurant in Des Moines followed by cocktails out and about. Nothing crazy, it felt like a regular night out in Des Moines with my besties like when I lived there and it was perfect :) I cannot wait to see pictures from your big day! I'm a sucker for wedding dresses, I just love them.

I love your bachelorette party so much - I'd probably do something similar for my own. I'm not one for parties or bars or crazy weekends in Miami or anything like that. Something small and intimate sounds perfect.

Love how showered with love you're being! You deserve it so much. <3

Glad to hear you had a wonderful time! It's such a perfect theme for you :-) I can't believe your wedding is next weekend already!!! So exciting!

Try to relax a bit this week leading up to it ... if that's possible!

Again, sooo late to comment but it's fun to read this AFTER the wedding festivities are over. I am SO GLAD I got to be there for your big day and to see your home. It was really wonderful! I am also so glad that you got SO spoiled before and around your wedding day as you truly deserved it. The work party and bachelorette party both sound wonderful and perfect. I LOVED my bachelorette party, it was a running themed one and all my friends dressed up in running clothes and we went on a big scavenger hunt and then went out. It was super super fun but now that I'm older I would probably lean more towards a 'Girls gone mild' type of event myself if I was getting married now :)
