Currently: June Edition

Reading:  This Common Secret for my local book club meeting in July. This is going to be a tough book for me to read as it's a memoir written by an abortion doctor and I'm fiercely pro-life. But I suppose the book discussion will give me an opportunity to explain my stance on the issue and I firmly believe in exposing yourself to views that differ from your own. I'm just trying to get through the book as quickly as I can because it's so hard to read about something I have such strong feelings against.

Loving: bullet journaling! I've seen bullet journals all over Instagram for years, but  a lot of the examples I saw were of people who were very creative as the writing in the journal was beautiful and it included illustrations and such. But after seeing some more 'straight forward' layouts, I was inspired to give it a try.  I plan to do a post about this next month, but for those who aren't familiar with bullet journal, here are a couple of sample pages. I love the flexibility of bullet journaling and it's 'to do' list approach to planning!

My monthly layout where I list out appointments and social plans
The page where I plan workouts and track what I actually did.

My weekly layout. I use this to keep track of meal plans, things I want to accomplish that week and workout plans.

Struggling:  to get to bed early enough to get as much sleep as I need. I always struggle with this in the summer when the days are so long as it's tough to transition to bedtime when it's still light outside. But I've been getting less than 7 hours of sleep a night lately and my body needs more!

Feeling: so happy to be married and have the wedding behind us. Don't get me wrong, it was truly an amazing and magical day! I'm just happy that the slow (or not so slow!) bleed of money is behind us and we can just enjoy our time together without talking about seating plans and RSVP counts and all the other little details!

Thinking: about this quote on days when I start to feel defeated about the state of the world.

Anticipating: the upcoming weekend at the lake! My parents are hosting my dad's side of the family for a pre-4th of July celebration on Saturday afternoon/evening. Unfortunately we have to go back on Sunday as Phil and I both work on the 3rd but at least we won't miss the family get together! I'm planning to bring a corn & bean salsa, a queso dip, and some carmelita bars. I mean, you have to have bars on a 4th of July celebration as it's such an American dessert.

Watching: my garden grow like crazy! My zucchini got so huge that I had to move the pepper plants that were planted alongside of the zucchini as they were getting crowded out!

I'll be able to pick zucchini soon! Woo hoo!

Grateful: that I'm healthy enough to train for a half marathon! I'll share my racing plans in a post soon. It feels so good to be running with my running club again and following a training plan!

Listening: to allll the podcasts, as usual. I subscribe to so many that I can never seen to catch up!

Wishing: that Phil and I had the 3rd of July off so we could stay at the lake until the 4th of July holiday. Unfortunately the first business day is the start of Phil's busy time at work so he can't be gone. It will make for a shorter trip to the lake, but we'll be back with his mom 2 weekends later and I'll be back the following week when my Chicago brother and his family are there so at least we have more lake time to look forward to!

What are you anticipating, watching, and grateful for?

I also have a hard time getting myself to bed at a reasonable hour on the weeknights this time of year. When it's light out until 9:30pm it just doesn't feel like it's time to wind down. I still want to be out and about!

I agree about summertime sleeping! Not only does it stay light out longer, but it rises quite early in the morning, too! I always get up early on weekdays but would like a little more shut eye on weekends, but I'm up with the birds!
I am excited for the 4th of July celebration but worried about keeping 45 people entertained and fed! 26 are adults but 19 are children so I am praying for nice weather so they can be in the lake! None-the-less, it will be lots of fun!
Your bullet journalism intrigues me!

I've got the 3rd and 4th of July off from work! Can't wait for this 4 day weekend. Have fun in the big celebration.

Your garden looks amazing! I'm eating cucumbers out of mine and have plenty of green tomatoes, but that's about it.

I would have a hard time reading that book too! I do seek to understand viewpoints different than my own but that particular topic breaks my heart. It's a long story but short version I don't have today off work after staying up super late (for me) and I am dragging at work today! I took the 3rd off and I'm looking forward to having a long weekend/short week!!! We'll be at the lake house too. I'm bummed we won't have a boat since my brother and SIL are closing on their new house and moving. I've pretty much convinced Tater that we need a boat next year ;) Your garden looks awesome! I've been cutting up fresh zucchini and squash and using them with guac and dip instead of chips. It's not quite the same but I like it! Yesterday I used tomato slices, those were quite tasty with guac!!!

I would have a hard time with that book as well. Good for you for reading harder topics! I was very lucky to get july 3 off, so I'm planning on going to the lake friday night - monday morning, and then coming back to the metro.

Oh, Lisa, I'm so glad you'll get to train again -- that's good news indeed! And your garden sounds fabulous. My brussels sprouts don't seem to be doing so well but everything else is going great guns. Now I wish I'd planted zucchini!

I'm anticipating my extended time at the lake beginning Friday, watching "The Tunnel" and mysteries on PBS and grateful that the days are long and summer seems here at last!

I am anticipating our anatomy scan on July 11, I am also watching my garden grow and I'm grateful for summer. I was reminded last weekend just how much I LOVE SUMMER! I am also having trouble going to bed early though and the last two nights I didn't go to sleep until 10:30pm. Need to remedy that as I really do feel best when I get 8 hours of sleep a night! It's so hard though as it's light out here until almost 11pm and then the sky starts to lighten again at - no joke - 3am!!! It woke me up the other morning because I didn't have the blinds shut. The sun doesn't fully rise until 4:30am but the sky starts to go that navy blue colour and lighten around 3. And our bedroom faces directly east so it shines right in the bedroom window if the blinds aren't shut super tight.

I am soooo behind on podcasts too, just because I listen to so many! I'm listening to episodes from early June - THAT is how behind I am. Oh, well. It's a good problem to have!

I was curious as to why you were reading that book when I saw you had marked it as currently reading on Goodreads. Kudos to giving it a try, even if it contradicted your views. That is REALLY hard.

I've been getting to bed late, too, and I didn't connect it with the lighter days! But that makes sense. Sometimes, I get into bed around 8:45 to read for a bit, and it's still light out and I feel crazy. Haha.

Whenever you mention that you will spend a weekend at the lake with your family, I get so jealous (in a good way)... I wish we had family with a lake house that we could hang out with on weekends!

Time at a lake house sounds perfect right about now :-)

I am anticipating a relaxing week next week, as we're headed out camping.
I am watching Big Brother.
I am loving being on holidays, and reading blogs when I would normally be at work!
