TGIF

We've had a week of a rain/snow mix and very little sun. I don't think I've seen the sun since Saturday. There's more of the same in next week's forecast but this weekend should be better so hopefully we'll get some time outside! Here's how my week shaped up!

The book I'm reading is Where the Light Falls by Allison and Owen Pataki (brother-sister authors!). It's historical fiction set during the French Revolution. I did a French Revolution-themed walking tour when I was in Paris years ago, but my knowledge of that time period is pretty tenuous so I'm enjoying the book. I'm also listening to The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green and working my way through The Count of Monto Cristo on the serial reader ap. I'm about 1/2 done with The Count but I am feeling a little meh about it right now. I'm regretting not creating a list of characters. There are a lot of people to keep track of!

The high of my week was working on an Easter card for my grandma with Paul. I think she will get a kick out of how he wrote his name! I traced some spring animals - a duck and a lamb - but the duck looks more like a dinosaur! I'm sure she'll appreciate it, though.

The low of my week was a rough bedtime with Paul that took 2 hours! We have asked his teacher to not have him nap at school but for some reason he napped for the full amount that day (some days he doesn't nap at all, some days they limit his nap to 30 minutes). So he was just not tired, but pushing back his bedtime is tough because he has to be up by 6:15 so we can be out the door around 6:50. He didn't fall asleep until 9:30 which is when I usually go to bed. The next morning was ROUGH.

A recipe I made was this beef and vegetable enchilada skillet. Our kids love enchiladas so I thought this would be a fast, easy meal that would go over well. Will did pretty well with it but it took much coaxing to get Paul to eat it, even after we picked out all of the corn (which is one of many of the foods he won't eat). Le sigh.

A show we are watching is the latest season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. We aren't loving it, but it's entertaining enough. I feel like that show peaked in the first 2 seasons.

For workouts I did beach body workouts on Monday and Tuesday (workouts 91 and 92 of a 100 workout program I started in August - the end is in sight!). I ran on the dreadmill at the gym at work on Thursday, will do another beach body workout today and will run with my neighbor tomorrow morning!

The best money spent on a haircut/color! I hadn't had my hair cut in over 7 months and it was entirely TOO long and very gray. I chopped a good 5 inches off. I've been seeing the same hair stylist for over 10 years so going to a hair appointment is like catching up with a good friend.

My plans this weekend include taking the boys to a park birthday party for one of Paul's classmates on Saturday morning and then taking Paul to church on Saturday evening. It's Palm Sunday so I think he will get a kick out of getting a palm leaf/branch. Hopefully he doesn't use it as a sword or something! Will has swimming lessons on Sunday but we have no other plans besides that. Hopefully we'll spend lots of time outside.

Bonus Paul Pic:

Building a train station for his train with magnatiles. And yes, you can see in the background that we are using a chair to deter Will from going downstairs! Someone is always watching him closely. We didn’t have gates in our last house and are trying to avoid getting one since that space is a tricky place for a gate.

How was your week? What is the best thing you spent money on?

Thanks for a terrific update, Lisa. I love that Easter card -- that's the best! Sorry about the bed time, though. That had to be very tough. Your hair looks great. I haven't had mine cut in months and months and it's long and I'm growing out the gray a bit so not knowing what to do and not anxious to sit in a hairdresser's chair. We'll see.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I LOVE when my nieces and nephews send me stuff in the mail and Paul's signature is amazing (and quite artistic - maybe you should send it to the Walker and see if a modern art museum would center an exhibit around it?). Your hair looks amazing - what a great hairstylist you have!

Cute hair!

Sorry about the crummy bedtime...as you said the other day, I promise it doesn't last forever! Last night Ivan and I were in our room catching up on This is Us, and Ethan came in, so I told Ivan to pause it so I could go get Ethan in bed. Ethan said, Mom, I don't need someone to take me to bed! HA! I was like, ok, then...night!! lol. So you see, eventually bedtime will be a non-issue. It just make take close to another 10 years to be fully behind you. I am a little intrigued by the one called Job One, I think...I believe Jericho and another lady also have a new one coming out soon, maybe called Fire and Ice or something like that? Amoila Cesar has one called 6 45 that would probably be good, too- I did his The Work at the beginning of the pandemic, so one of the first BB programs I ever did. It was SO HARD. But I really like him as a trainer, so I'm intrigued by it. Not sure about the 45 minutes though....I like that some of the MM workouts are only 20 minutes!! It's nice to fit those in on a busy day. I'm not sure what I'll do. I have to decided if I really do want to get back in the gym long term and how many days. I started in January strong, but with extra work stuff going on, I haven't even bothered to try right now. Need to think more on that.

Oh, shoot- part of my comment got deleted. Haha. There was supposed to be a question in there about what workout program you'll do next, and a comment saying "good job on getting so close to the end of MM"! This is what I get for trying to multitask - walking on the treadmill while responding to your blog. LOL!

I popped over from NGS's blog. :)

It feels GREAT to get your hair done, doesn't it? Your cut looks very cute. I saw in another post that you recommended the GBBO book, I didn't know there was one, I am going to have to check it out. I will watch ANY GBBO, but I too miss Mary, Mel, and Sue.

I think the best thing I spent money on was money I just spent at the nursery, getting some flowers and a little bird house for my (very small) yard.

That card is SO cute. I love the avant garde signature. Speaking of cute: your haircut looks fabulous! It's such a great feeling to have a fresh cut and color!

Paul's signature made me smile. How cute!

And your hair looks great! Isn't so nice to get a fresh cut/color? It always makes me feel so good!

Hmm... best thing I spent money on last week. I guess $225 at my dermatologist to get my mole removed, haha. I don't love spending that much money on medical things but it is good to have it removed and done with.

Love the hair! That cut/colour combo really suit you :)
Sorry about the snow. We had a snow day last Monday and it has been rainy a fair bit since. Oh well. This too shall pass!

Hmmm. Best money lately? The hotel on Friday night when we did a quick family getaway. There was an awesome waterslide and it was just...a lot of fun.

Also, your picture of the chair reminds me of how we used to use silicone spatulas wedged in cabinet handles to keep the kids out of opening them when they were little. We were renting and didn't want to install kid-proof hardware, but it was a bit ridiculous looking to have all our lower cabinets held shut with spatula's running through the handles. It worked and that phase is now long behind us!

I love the "dinosaur." It is very cute! My week last week was pretty good; it was very hot here and so it was kind of nice but kind of scary since that probably means we are in for more drought years. I think it was in the 90s on Thursday...it's too early for that for sure! I am considering planting some vegetables but I did not do it last year and to be honest I did not miss the time that it takes, plus the water use makes me think it may just be best for me to buy my veggies a la carte. I still have fruit - peaches, figs, oranges, blueberries, strawberries - and an avocado tree that I have my fingers crossed for, so I think that is good enough for now.

I have not really spent money on anything besides groceries! I bought a Starbucks coffee last weekend and some running shoes on Amazon the week before that, but otherwise, most of my expenses have been regular bills and grocery hauls. Actually, I did buy a ticket to Denver for an August trip to pace a friend at the Leadville 100. That was probably the most exciting thing I spent money on!

I love your haircut. It feels so good to get rid of the length, doesn't it? I just cut mine for the first time since 2019 (aside from friends and family trimming the ends) and I chopped off over 12 inches to donate, so now mine is very short. It sure saves time in the shower though!

Hooray for a cut and color! I don't color my hair (yet) but I get about 3 cuts per year, and I like that it isn't frequent because it always feels so nice once I finally do it. Gates are annoying, but necessary, my sister in law has one that is mesh that they use for their stairs that has an awkward opening.

This is the first time (somehow) that I realized your son's name is Paul- so is mine!!! Except my Paul is now a freshman in college. Seeing the card you guys made seriously transported me back in time- it looks like the way my son would write his name at that time (hee hee.) And he would definitely put a dinosaur on an Easter card.

Yay for haircuts. I haven't been to a hair salon since before the pandemic started. I've cut my ends a few times but that's it. Would be nice to get pampered at a spa again sometime.
