Happy Monday! We are in the midst of a heat wave here, so it's feeling kind of Florida-like! Our high today is 100 and the humidity is pretty high. Keep in mind that our air temp can get as low as -15F, and even colder with the windchill. So well over a 100-degree range of temps in a year. Nuts, right? We tried to be outside as much as we could over the weekend! Here is how we filled out time.
On Friday, our friend came over for dinner. We went for a little stroll/scoot after dinner to get some of Paul's wiggles out. After Will went to bed, we played our favorite little kid game - First Orchard. It's more expensive than other little kid games - $30 - but the fruit is made out of wood and everything is very durable. It's a cooperative game so you all win or you all lose, which can be nice for young kids who are still working on accepting that they won't always win. It's a good way to work on colors and counting so I'd HIGHLY recommend it. And it's a FAST game - unlike games like hi-ho cherry-o or chutes and ladders that can go on forever!
On Sunday morning, I took Will to swimming lessons. They did their assessments and said he can move onto the 3rd baby level which kind of surprised me! Paul had to take 2 sessions of each level before he made it to level 3! We are going to take a little break from swimming lessons now that Will is in gymnastics. I want one weekend morning free to do things like go to the zoo.
And that was a wrap! Paul and Phil were home by 7:30 and I was in bed by 8:30 reading. Will slept until 5:55 this morning and Paul slept until 6:20! Maybe/hopefully we are turning a corner on the early mornings?? That would be wonderful.
How was your weekend? Is it really hot where you live? I like summer but would love some days in the 80s with lower humidity!

Sounds like a busy, fun weekend! It's been a "heat wave" here, but that is much, much lower than your temperatures. Like, our heat wave means temperatures in the high eighties. Today is quite chilly and rainy though.
It has been hot here, too. I don't mind dry heat, but it has been quite humid and that's a tough combo.
We also have huge temperature differentials (we get it about as hot as possible in Canada as we live in a valley area)! From -35C with windchill to +40 with humidex, it's a wild ride.
Sounds like a fun weekend. If I learned one thing from the horror that with regard to naps/kids sleeping, it never pays to say "X SHOULD be sleeping X amount at this point." We always joked that our kids were the asterisk in all the baby books (for example, our kids HATED car seats and strollers, and they almost never fell asleep in them).
As you already know, it's hot here too! What MN does, WI does. :) Usually. I'm ok with it because I love the nice warm evenings. Although, with the heat and the humidity it usually means mad mosquitoes, so we can't really enjoy time out at night, anyway. sigh. I would rather have the heat and humidity NOW versus like, September. I feel that lately we have all this hot weather into September, and I get very over it by then. I like it hot in July, though. Do you guys have room for a sprinkler in your yard?? That's always fun!! Especially if they like the splash pad. We used to have several different fun sprinklers and they were nice to just turn on briefly for a heat break without the hassle of heading to the pool.
We're getting your heat this week, but not quite so bad. Do you mean Paul and gymnastics or is Will doing it now, too? They're such darling kids and I love that they like reading and books. Sounds like a great time. (I know what you mean about Chutes and Ladders.... forever!)
Your accounts of these busy busy weekends takes me back! (It does get easier, I promise.) Congrats to Will on his level 3 achievement! Hot here, too, but not as bad as 100 degrees.
Oh yes, it's really hot here! I remember how hard summers with little kids can be- down here, lots of parks have little splash pad areas and we tried to go to as many of those as possible. Sounds like your weekend was nice despite the heat- glad you got a good night's sleep! Yes, maybe this is the end of your early morning problem.
It is no fair that you have to deal with super cold/long winters AND Florida-like summers. You're having temps very close to what we're experiencing here! That's not how this should work!!! Ugh.
I'm glad you guys were able to get out to splash pads and libraries and place where you can enjoy being out and about without dying from the heat.
As you know, Sacramento gets very hot in the summer, but at least we have lower humidity. The humidity is killer! I don't envy you at all. But it sounds like you made the best of it. Your weekends always sounds so busy, but I guess that's normal with two young kids.
