This was a short week that felt short! Sometimes short weeks feel long but this one didn’t! It’s kind of shocking that today is the last day of May but I am not sad since we are entering peak weather season! Here is how my week shaped up.
A book I am reading this week is a buzzy new release that is on several summer reading guides called ‘Real Americans.’ It’s a pretty hefty book at nearly 600 pages but it is so good and propulsive! It’s a multi-generational story about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of a Chinese immigrant family living in the U.S.
The highs of my week were 1. Book club on Wednesday! We went to a fun newish restaurant called Kim’s and a couple of our dishes were delivered by the chef/owner who is a James Beard award-winning chef! The food was awesome and the conversation was even better. 2. Volunteering at Paul’s track and field day at school and watching him participate in his events. 3. Finding out my infusion treatments were approved by insurance. My first infusion is on June 13th. Now that I’ve accepted this is the next right step, I am very ready to start the treatments.

The low of my week was carrying a screaming and flailing toddler out of his school’s one year anniversary party. He did not want to leave but everyone was hungry/hangry so it was time to go.

You know I love toddlers, but! Carrying them out screaming is definitely the worst. WHY CAN’T THEY JUST HAVE SOME DIGNITY (lol). For Minnie, it’s really unpredictable even now that she probably isn’t a toddler. Like sometimes it is no problem to leave even when she wants to stay and sometimes it’s a frigging disaster. I picked her up from lunch bunch on Wednesday (LIKE I ALWAYS DO FFS), and she LOST HER MIND nod started screaming that she didn't want to leave and had to be suitcased to the car. So embarrassing and such a hassle. Solidarity.

I'm making a note of Real Americans - as with all books that get raves on the Sarah's Bookshelves podcast, I always need a "real person" endorsement.
My SIL tipped me off that this season of Top Chef is in Wisconsin, and one episode is about FLW. For whatever reason I find cooking shows to be stressful, and the food on Top Chef is always weird, but since it was shot in a place where I've just been and I'm headed back to, I couldn't resist and started watching the show.
The Real Americans sounds really interesting! I'm putting it on my TBR! I mean, I have enough on my reading plate at the moment but if it's buzzy I'm sure there will be a long hold at the library, so that will give me some breathing room!
I think it's great when kids are really into something - it makes it so much easier to buy for them! I'd milk the Mickey phase as long as you can!
That dinner out sounds so great! I love eating out without kids, especially if the conversation is about books!
As you know O is the same age as Taco, and I feel you on toddlers being… toddlers. Yesterday we went over to friends for Friday night dinner, and he took off all his clothes and refused to put them back on. Why? No. Idea. Then he whinged for the TV to be put on, for so long I finally acquiesced just to stop interrupting my night. This morning, he’s as good as gold. This too shall pass!
I've never joined a reading club, sometimes I wish I had one near by to join to chat about books. It's hard to find a like minded people who enjoys what I enjoy reading as reading is so personal. Glad you found yours and enjoying it.
What a relief to know the insurance covers the infusion. Great that you have an appt already booked up to start. Hopefully this time it will bring you real relief.
I dream of joining a bookclub again and finding a group of like-minded women. How did you meet them? I don't even know where to start.
I love that Taco loves Mickey so much. I think it's adorable when kids are obsessed with a character. I remember when my family came to visit a few years ago when my niece and nephew were still little. We went to Disneyland and Tom's eyes got so WIDE when we watched the Disney Parade in the evening and the cars from "CARS" floated by LOL
I just had a flashback to when Angie was little- she loved Minnie Mouse but referred to her as "the pink Mickey Mouse." Ah, kids are funny. Unless they're screaming and flailing while you're trying to leave a party. I had PLENTY of those moments too.
By now we're well into the weekend, and I hope it's going well for you. Nice job with the running!
My husband is watching The West Wing, so I'm catching scenes of that occasionally. The latest season of Taskmaster just came out and I'm a tiny bit sad that we have months to wait before the next season starts.
I'm reading The Change which is an interesting look at gender dynamics. Not sure how I feel about it just yet.
Oh, I'm SO GLAD that your insurance has approved the infusions, and I really really hope that they help and take away all of the inflammation and pain.
I'm listening to a book right now called 'Come and Get It'. I don't remember who suggested it, but I'm loving it. I'm near the end, and all of the chickens are coming home to roost, which is exactly what they deserve. I'm also reading 'Hard Times' by Charles Dickens, and am STRUGGLING to get into it. Sigh.
I am also reading Real Americans. But mine is under 400 pages. The hardcover.

Reading: "Cat Scratching" essays saw it on NGS's blog and picked it up- I like it!
Watching: "The leftovers" a 2014 show about some folks disappearing and others are still here. It's from the creators of Lost and I completely see a few parallels. How did I found the show? I heard a soundtrack first on Spotify, so very beautiful, then I looked up the show, turns out it's the Leftovers.

I am currently watching season 11 of Master Chef and season 1 of Suits. And I'm reading Go As a River by Shelley Read, which I think is a book rec I got from you! I'm really loving it.
Obviously I am behind, but hurray for the infusions! That is great news and I am counting down the days with you until June 13th! Regarding your book, I have not even heard of it! I am so under a rock right now with social media or even news in general (I know, it's not good, but so it goes). Obviously I see headlines from time to time, but I don't know too much nitty gritty. I know Trump got convicted and the Oilers are in the Stanley cup. :)
I am reading The Indifferent Stars above and loving it. Even though I already know a lot about the Donner party, having grown up near there and been to the place where many of them perished many times, it is fun to hear it from a different perspective. Also I do like the author's writing style.
Oooh, can't wait to hear how the infusion went, now that it's in the past. Sigh. I hope there were no glitches, that you tolerated it well (so they can start speeding it up), and most importantly, that you get some RELIEF! I may need to jump ahead in time to check in...
