Weekend recap + big kid milestone!

It was a long weekend for me as I was off on Friday for my planned shouldless day. Here is how the weekend shaped up!

Friday am: Phil took the kids to school and I headed out for my 7.5 mile run shortly thereafter. It was a deliciously cool morning with low humidity so this run felt 100% better than last week’s. I ran over a minute/mile faster and felt great at the end. Last week I practically wanted to crawl home when I got to the 7 mile mark so I was relieved it went so much better. After my run, I showered, finished episode 9 of The Bear and then laid on the couch in a sort of comatose state until it was time to eat lunch before picking up Taco from daycare.

Friday pm: Taco and I headed to the zoo from daycare pick-up. We were there for over 3 hours. My favorite part was the bird show; his favorite part was the grizzly bears. We also enjoyed watching the penguins!

Everyone was very tired that night as Paul had a field trip at his summer program and Taco didn’t ride in the stroller much at the zoo so logged a lot of steps. There was some challenging overtired kid behavior so I breathed a sigh of relief when the kids were in bed. We watched one episode of Welcome to Wrexham and then I went to bed.

Saturday am: I woke at 5:30 but managed to fall back asleep. I was stunned when I woke at 6:45 to find that both were still sleeping! Both boys were up shortly after that but it was such a treat to wake on my own - not by a child yelling for me or coming in our room! It was a nice morning so the boys and I walked/scooted up to the grocery store/SBUX. The boys had donuts and I had a green tea lemonade because it was too warm/muggy for a hot coffee (I can’t drink cold coffee drinks - coffee has to be hot for me!)

Morning treats for all!

Then we walked to our neighborhood park. They boys had a blast.

Saturday pm: After lunch Taco’s big boys bed frame was delivered by IKEA and I attempted to lay down for a bit while the boys got screen time and Phil mowed the lawn but Taco would not leave me alone. Not even Bluey would hold his attention. So we headed to the pool earlier than I had planned. There is a great pool in the city just SW of us (Edina). They have a massive kids section plus a 3 foot area that is corded off. Taco has been more interested in the water this summer so he will start swimming lessons this fall.

The 3’ section.

Photo of the massive kids section from our last visit to the pool.

When we got home the adults enjoyed chili I had made in the crockpot (first crockpot meal in years but it worked well for a day when we were out and about so much) and the kids had eggs. And then during dessert, Paul lost his first tooth!! The tooth had been extremely loose for quite some time and it finally fell out! His adult tooth is pretty much fully in and he has another adult tooth that is coming in next to it.

Sunday am: Paul was excited to wake up to his reward from the tooth fairy! When I lost a tooth as a child, we put the tooth in a cup of water and then in the morning the tooth was gone and there was a quarter in the cup. Well inflation has impacted the tooth fairy payout - she left Paul $5! I asked what he wanted to do with it and he said, ‘save it!!’

When Phil was up, I managed to get a 4 mile run in before the thunderstorms rolled in. I was glad my long run was behind me - had I done it that day I would have gotten soaked which is not fun.

At the halfway point by Lake Harriet. This pic show how dang many freckles I have. I don’t love them but can’t do anything about them. I wear sunscreen every single day but there is no preventing them.

Sunday pm: Phil finished the assembly of Taco’s bed. We still need to buy a mattress for the trundle bed. But I don’t see the boys have sleep overs together all that soon so we have plenty of time to order one.

The finished product! There are 2 drawers for bedding plus a trundle bed.

After that project was done, we went over to Phil’s friend’s house for a gathering of HS friends. They live in the lake and have a son who is Taco’s age. It was a beautiful afternoon so we soaked up the time outside.

Now today I fly to Denver for some internal meetings so it will be a bit easier trip although I have evening plans both nights. So the days will be longer but less intense. After this trip I am done traveling until September! I haven’t had a month off from traveling since December/January so am very much looking forward to it!

How was your weekend? Did/does the tooth fairy visit your house? How much did/does she leave?

I like your freckles!
Oooh the tooth fairy, that's a big milestone! I can't remember at all what we did money-wise when the kids lost their teeth, honestly.
I loved zoo trips with the boys when they were young, such a great way to spend a few hours! I hope you have a good trip, Lisa!

Exciting about the tooth fairy!! That is definitely a big milestone! The new bed looks great too. Suddenly both are growing up.... I know for you the toddler phase has dragged out but I feel from your posts/texts like there are definitely a lot of big shifts happening now all of a sudden! Sounds like a great weekend. So different from mine in this stage of life, haha. E worked both days and I was away at a big swim meet both Sat/Sun with A. So I guess I was at the pool, too, just a different version. ;) So glad you won't have to travel for a nice long stretch!! Hopefully you can really soak up this last full month of summer before all the fall/back to school stuff sets in.

I love freckles (my son has quite a few!).

Losing a tooth is such an iconic step. Inflation is right, but I love that he wants to save it.

The bed looks great and that's such a big milestone too. The crib is gone, the new bed is in...

Your long run sounds amazing, and I'm so glad you were able to have at least 1/2 of a shouldless day and also that you're almost done travelling for a while. Phew. What a busy year you've had with business travel. And you're getting closer and closer to a week home without the boys. Woot, woot!!!

I feel you on the freckles! I was probably really bad about sunscreen when I was a kid but now I'm religious about it plus hats. Still can't tame the freckles. I'm thrilled to see my girls start to get a little smattering of them across their nose/cheeks. It's nice to feel that connection to them.

Enjoy Denver! And then enjoy being at home;-)

I love chili in the summer. I might just have to make some for us this week.

I hated my freckles when I was a kid, and then grew to embrace them in my 20s...and now I don't notice/care about them either way.

You are so beautiful Lisa, and I love your freckles. Speaking of freckles (of which I also have many), have you seen how people are using makeup to create freckles on their faces?

What a fun weekend! I love that you and Taco had such a nice time at the zoo together, and the local pool looks amazing. Yay to Paul for losing a tooth!

I think we are finally out of the tooth-losing stage. The tooth fairy left a $20 bill for the last tooth. Hard to say if that's inflation or if the tooth fairy simply had no smaller bills on her.

tooth fairy!!!!! that's huge! Love that bed, too. I am a sucker for beds with storage.

Big boy bed, yay!!!! R is still in the crib minus the front section which we took off at 1 year old. T wants to make him a car bed, so after the staircase is finished - please god be soon- the car bed is next.
Tooth fairy did visit our house on Friday! She left $3 for one of L's teeth. Interestingly, L keeps loosing teeth but her front teeth are still not growing, so she has a big gap lol How this was a canine and now the gap is even wider. We can see the outline and we have an x-ray so we know that the adult teeth are there but they are taking their sweet time.

AW!!!! Taco got a big boy bed and Paul lost a tooth!!! Those are definitely milestones. $5 sounds about right from the tooth fairy- yes, when I was a kid I think it was a quarter.
That long run sounds amazing. The whole morning sounds wonderful, and even though your should-less day was cut in half, the whole day sounds fun. Having one kid instead of two is mush easier, plus it can change up the dynamic in a fun way.
Good luck with your travel this week!

Losing teeth! Another reason I don't have kids - dental stuff freaks me out and I would be so utterly grossed out having to deal with that. LOL. $5!! Inflation is real!

Sounds like y'all had a great weekend! It cooled off her too which was kind of a bummer for being out on the boat Saturday! It was windy which made the water super choppy! We celebrated my nephew's birthdays together so that was wonderful!!! Congratulations to Paul on losing his first tooth!!! I think I got a $1 but it's been so long ago I really can't remember. I love that his answer was save it! I have definitely curtailed my shopping since Michael was laid off. Thankfully he is a saver and a planner but I know I have to do my part too.

Read this in the car on my phone as we drove back from SC, and just realized I hadn't commented yet as I needed my desktop. Your kids are lucky to have such a generous tooth fairy. Hee hee. Our tooth fairy wasn't all that generous (I think they got a few quarters!) and by the 6th kid's teeth, I was often army crawling into the room early in the am - realizing I'd forgotten the night before. Your trip to the zoo with Taco sounds so fun. Also isn't it glorious to wake up on your own? Hooray for that.

you've had a seriously productive and fun weekend. The sleep in was a real gift. Three cheers to Paul and the first tooth. He's already a good little saver -- good parental models! Big boy beds, runs, teeth, fun. So good!

I've always loved your freckles and have always wished I had more. We want what we don't have, I guess! I'm sorry you struggle with yours! <3

Congrats to Paul! And was that not the MOST perfect answer to his two financial-savvy parents?! I can't remember how much money I got - maybe a couple dollars?!

Inflation has impacted the tooth fairy payout LOL that made me chuckle... congrats to Paul for loosing his first baby tooth! I am not surprised he wants to save the money!

So happy to hear that you had a great run earlier in the week. They always make up for the bad ones ;)

Love all of this - other than the overtired kids (which, hey! may have given you that awesome wake up on Saturday!), it just sounds like the quintessential summer weekend. I can practically see Taco growing up in front of our eyes, and Paul! A tooth! I honestly don't remember how much we got but I'm betting it was a quarter, too. :)
